"Richard Larrios- From North to South" at OWG
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single
click.
For award-winning photographer Richard Larrios, who by day is a
full-time programmer in the IT industry and has
delved
seriously into digital landscape photography for
only three years now, his pictures transport us to
worlds
where serenity, tranquility and balance abound. “In
this very hectic world that we live in, communing
with nature and soaking in its beauty is a welcome
respite,” says the artist.
In "Richard Larrios- From North to South",
which will be on view at OWG from August 1 to 16,
Larrios presents works, taken in various locales in
the Philippines, that possess a strong Zen quality—a
perfect balance of yin and yang—where one is brought
to near states of bliss. In viewing his beach
scenes, for instance, one can almost hear the
calming waves
lapping against the shore or feel the sea breeze
gently blowing across your face. In another shot the
golden rays of the sun, virtually painting the
landscape, instantly leave us with a sense of awe
and wonder.
But more than taking photographs for mere personal
pleasure, Larios is a man with a mission. “Through
my photographs, I hope to develop awareness on the
importance of preserving our environment; to awaken
the consciousness of the people to the natural
splendor that world brings”.
With such an able photographer as Richard Larrios,
who considers himself no more than a hobbyist,
taking
stunning pictures, it seems, is something that comes
ever so naturally.
"Richard Larrios- From North to South" , will run at the One Workshop
Gallery from August 1- 16, 2006. Opening cocktails on August 1, 6pm.
