fake and real memory cards

I'm not sure where the best location for this thread is, so I'll start it in 'general'

Following some bad experience getting some fake CF cards (2G SanDisk Ultra II) I thought I'd up load some shots of real and fak cards for reference.

REAL - Lexar 80x

REAL - SanDisk Extreme III
http://www.dynaxcap.com/DynDigDyxPN/CFcards/Max-01105-RealExtremeIII.jpg
(I used to have a real Ultra II, markings were very similar)

FAKE - SanDisk Ultra II
http://www.dynaxcap.com/DynDigDyxPN/CFcards/7D-13261-FakeUltraII.jpg
(not the difference with the SanDisk from above)
= write speed, near 2 minutes for sequence of 9 images

Extreme is a slightly different color, it is supposed to be, a very light gold, the ultra is silvery. But its the markings that show the key difference. I guess people are buying boat loads of SLOW 1x cards, or blank ones and making their own FAKE SanDisk labels?

Can they register their CF's serial number online like what RiDATA does to ensure that we got the authentic one?

Say better register your memory online to be avaible to get also the warranty/guarantee on your purchased.

Guys, to be safe on the safe side, just don't buy the one's which are really sold here which are unbelievabably cheap... :) Saw a couple of suspicious one's which were marketed in another group-mailing list...

Yes. Had to sell my Transcend 1GB SD Card (replaced) and got a Toshiba 1GB SD (approved brand accdg to manual).

Wouldnt want any of our precious babies get damaged by some cheapo fakey card right? :)

Would you know the site/s where the serials can be registered?

Thanks and regards

Actually I know someone who bought a fake locally. But returned it to the seller after finding out it was fake. The seller returned the buyer's money and apologized, the seller didn't know it was fake din. Kaya ingat lang sa mga popular brands.

@carlo

Approved brands refers to cards which were tested with the camera in pre-production. It doesn't mean that those are the only brands you can use. Factory defects occur with any brand, even an expensive Sandisk is susceptible to this.

When buying flash cards, make sure the one you're buying uses SLC type flash memory because this is the high speed flash memory for use with cameras as opposed to MLC which is normally used for mobile phones.

And note that some unscrupulous people might rebadge their flash cards claiming faster speeds by putting stickers.
