Hi Bobby,

Correct me if I am wrong but is this the safari where they have deers and giraffes running in the wild?

Pilar, I think you're referring to Calauit Island. I get confused with those islands too. :Dum:

@pilar,

bernard is right, it's calauit in palawan you were referring to. camiguin is the island off cagayan de oro. it's the island with the most volcanoes in proportion to land mass. sayang, would love to go back if it weren't for the sked. lovely falls, great volcano hikes like hibok-hibok, and of course, the magnificent sunken cemetery and the white island sandbar.

Hi Pilar,

They are absolutely right :) .

We are now sixteen in the safari, much more than we've ever done, but I guess we'll manage.

The next safari may be in June/July, I'll try to announce it early. We're looking at Calauit, Siargao, Silangin, or Palaui Island.

Thanks.

Bobby

@bobby,

i just knew it when i read "camiguin", it wouldn't be hard to get participants onboard with such a great destination. :Grin: do let us know when you're headed for calauit.

Hi! I was just wondering what you will be shooting at Camiguin Island? I know the island a bit, been there a few times- been there bicycling, diving, etc. and could climb one of those volcanoes soon. My place is quite near, an hour and a half by mountain bike to that port where you take that ferry-- and that is Gingoog City(hee-ngo-og), 122kms east of Cagayan de Oro City

Hi Allen,

You mentioned a number of places we've uncovered in our own research, I guess we're there to shoot all of the above, and then some :) . Noli has been there plus we have two locals with us. In the game of finding the right place and the right time, its hard to beat experience and local knowledge. Why don't you meet up with us!

The highlight of Noli's photo safaris has always been about chasing the magic hours, about looking at landscapes lit by unusually colored light coming from unexpected directions, where shooting even the most ordinary places can yield rather extra-ordinary images. That is, if I am successful convincing everyone to wake-up before the sun for three straight days :D .

Btw Pilar, hope you don't postpone something you really like for too long. Life is truly short.

I know there is this phenomenon called work :D that gets in our way, more often than we wish. But when there is a will there is a way, and sometimes when something is gone it is really gone. Hope to see you in one of our safaris soon!

some camera clubs are using the word "safari" during their out-of-town shoots -- photo shoot, photo safari, photo expedition among others.

by the word "safari", it does not mean to say that one would expect "more" representations of kingdom animalia in the destination. our group [klub natur] has been using the term "photo safari" since its inception 14 years ago. Similarly, it means "photo hunt".

When we travel, our objective is to shoot and hunt for people, places and events. Thus, we "always" say: photo safari/expedition to {name of destination: batanes, palawan, etc.}.

do not be mislead by the word even if it says: photo safari in siqujor. (there are neither giraffes nor tigers but just witches in the area. hahaha). hope this helps.

regards to noli gabilo! long time no hear! it has been 12 long years since we last saw each other in sabtang, batanes.

Hi Allen,

Greetings from Tawi-Tawi!

Yes, it has been so long. I wish you can bring your group here. We can go to Turtle Islands and shoot "neither giraffes nor tigers" but turtles of course and wild birds.

It was unfortunate that I could not make it to a safari I was suppose to lead. I just kept on communicating with Bobby (whether they were sut up for the dawn shoot or not...) through text from Sitangkai. It was good Boyet and Hochi were there. It's their playground.

Hope you could join us in one of our future safaris.

Wish you all the best!

Noli

hi noli!

it's so nice to hear from you again! i will never forget how your soundslides group had inspired us to do a professionally-produced audiovisual production for my club.

it has always been a dream for us to visit sitangkai and several islands and islets where the sands are pink. my group was supposed to go to tawi-tawi latter part of the 90s (in partnership with jay taruc's team in eye witness) but due to insurgency issues, the project didn't push through.

what is the current situationer in tawi-tawi? we might re-consider travelling to tawi-tawi this year (or the next) now that our communication lines are open again. what's your email addy? let us coordinate. this could be another exciting photo safari and expedition to tawi-tawi by klub natur. hopefully, we could make another audiovisual production again.

let's keep in touch. i will meet with my group and discuss with my fellow kloobers the possibility of exploring tawi-tawi the soonest time.

regards,
allen
