Ron dela Luna 03-23-2007, 04:28 AM Nice shots!
Did you use a flash? Or was this all available lighting?
allen aligam 03-23-2007, 01:35 PM @migs and zandy: thanks for looking bros!:D
Nice shots!

this was all available light. i think it is more dramatic when you use stage lights..makes for a more entertaining lighting:)
Thanks for looking!

allen aligam 03-25-2007, 12:38 AM hi allen! which ones were shot using the sigma tele? can u post their exifs? tnx :D
Hi chep and red,
basically what i did was to shoot in manual mode. to be honest it was more of a trial and error for me:D i tried metering from the face of the artist but since the stage light were going on and off..its really hard to give a specific settings for the camera. i used auto white balance, iso1600
for the sigma 70-300 as much as possible i tried balancing the shutter against the aperture since we all know its not one of those 2.8 lenses:D basically what i did was set the aperture to 5.6 to make sure that whether i went wide or tele it would more or less be the same exposure and i tried not to go below 160 in shutter speed but you have to have a really steady hand for this especially if youre going at around 200-300mm on the tele. i will try to look for more pics that i used the tele but most of the kitchie photos and some of rico blanco especially the ones were it looks like he was looking straight at me are from the sigma thats why if you can see they are a bit darker than the barbie photos. actually way darker especially the background but i guess it adds emphasis on the artist..hehehe excuses excuses:D
hope this helps! thanks for looking!
allen aligam 03-25-2007, 12:52 AM hi chep as promised here some more photos taken with the sigma:D

Red Dungca 03-25-2007, 09:51 AM @Allen,
Thanks for sharing your experience and setting during the event:) I'll just check your flickr for the other shots.
Vic Rosales 03-25-2007, 10:51 PM Hey Cabanos! just kidding bro!
Really nice set. I like the first few, looked real sharp on this screen and not as much noise as I'd expect if you were shooting at 1600.
Where were you seated?

haha! cabanos ka diyan?! tsk tsk..nice seein you here vic
yup they were really sharp i used the 50mm 1.8 for that:D hehehe and iso1600 from 350D is actually pretty good you have to zoom in hard to see the noise
well, for the first part where i was using the tele i was seated somewhere in the middle i think around 10rows back from the stage but after a while i was right in front of the stage and clicking away:) i was able to secure a pass..hehehe helps if you know the performers:D
Eric Isaac 03-29-2007, 04:14 PM Very impressive, Allen! I, too, favor shooting with available light during a stage performance -- more dramatic than when using a flash unit. Besides, it is less annoying to the artists.
I like the entire set. Noel should see these.

hey eric! nice of you to drop by:) thanks thanks! yep you are right it is less distracting to the artist when you dont use flash..hehe but you know what they still noticed me in front of the stage as barbie was commenting what i was doing down there and nit in my seat:D wehehe...i really am falling in love with the 50mm 1.8 didn't know it would be that bright:)
chrisbanez 05-08-2007, 09:07 AM i love barbie!! ahaha ANIMO LA SALLE! \m/ nice shot bro!
jerrytieng 05-08-2007, 09:14 AM Stage performances like these require you to have either a long telephoto or a backstage pass. The first few images were shot from the ground looking up, and it makes for unflattering poses. The latter images were better as most of them were shot at eye level, and this is where fast telephotos and a monopod help a lot.
Good work on the lighting and the white balance. Fashion shows with long runways makes for good practice for these kind of shoots.
Keep shooting!

Hi sir jerry! thanks for the comment i really appreciate it:) actually the first few shot were shot from where i was seating thats why its like that. i was able to get near after a while since i was already given a pass. about postioning, where is an 'ideal' position to capture concert photos? i was just following some other photog who were shooting as well from below since i dont think we were allowed to go up stage.
Thanks for the suggestions i'll try some runways next so i can practice som more:D
