Another reason to go Linux!!!

This software makes us photographers again, its like working in the darkroom. Real deal dodge and burn techniques using digital tools. Ansel Adams invented the Zone System using 4x5 films adjusting exposures specific sections of the film in the darkroom. It didnt catch on in the 35mm SLR world since films were developed in rolls.

Now with the advent of digital... we PP individual images much like in the darkroom. What make this app very cool is its so intuitive, fixing colors and tone are all based on vector masks which easily adjustable.

This app is only free on Linux. Its USD 250 on Mac/Windows. The reason its free on Linux is that one o fits creators wants to make the whole linux community as its testing and feedback unit. The App is developed on Linux and distributed on Mac and Windows. Amazing!!!

Try it guys.

Did the author say this or is it your assumption?

If you are a licenced user of Lightroom/Aperture you can get this software at a discount.

You only need the Lightzone-Basic as Lightroom/Aperture are used for the database.

Yeah the message was there. The author also cited several instances why they chose Linux as the platform to get feedback.

Quoting from the article...

"In spite of that confusion, he says that the company gets more from its Linux customers than it loses in hypothetical sales. Kast ensures that the Linux version works because it is his platform of choice. The rest of the company required "absolutely no persuasion" on his idea of releasing the it free of charge. The company felt that Linux licenses would be a fraction of Windows and Mac sales, and not worth the marketing expense."

"But as a free download, LightZone attracts as many customers as Windows does at its current price point. And those Linux users are dedicated, assisting with bug reports, translations, and valuable feedback. "The Linux version gets us so much user connection and goodwill. A company can have a whole different kind of conversation with no-charge Linux users than it can have with supported Mac/Win users."
