I know quite a number of you have this affordable prime in your kit. And we all got it for the same reason. It's cheap, light, fast and has great bokeh. Share your favorite pics here! Let me start:

Taken by the CCP baywalk. It was sunset and the 50mm just gave great blur to let me play with abstracting the tree carvings I found.

This is really a cheap but great lens. It is very sensitive though to distance and aperture adjustments for DOF. I like this lens.

Hey Manny,

Say hello to Tita Coco! What f stop did you use to keep them both in sharp focus while that background is perfectly blurred?

50mm f/1.8 definitely is fast, light and cheap. its also one of the sharpest. :D

aside from low light photography, i also use it during studio shoot. here's a sample.

It's honestly been a while since I used the 50/1.4 AF-D. I did use it for candids for an entire wedding as backup photographer once, and I'll try to rummage through those for some of my favorites.

For now here are some samples:

I used to own a Nikon 50mm f1.4 AF-D, I got from Mayer for only 8.5k brand new. Its a little bit soft at wide open, but at f2 and beyond, its razor sharp. Below are some shots I took using the 50mm f1.4. :D

I think the price for the 50 1.8 is a very low 3,800 last time i asked ramon. I was asking for a friend since i already bought the lens used for 3,000. Sayang 800 na lng bnew na sana hehehe. My only consolation is that the lens I got is the metal one made in japan, the new ones are made of plastic i think made in thailand or china. Anyway, I don't regret getting this lens, its very sharp even wide open.

Sonny/Levi,

My aunt gave this to me because it's just accumulating dust in their attic. They say there are battery replacements. You can also improvise your own. Honestly, I haven't tried the camera yet because I still haven't found a way to improvise a battery for it. And, Levi is right, this is a rangefinder. :)

Thanks man! Have a few but i didnt shoot it with the 50mm. For some reason, the 50mm 1.4 manual lens works better at back-lit subjects than the AF counterpart. So weird. Took photos with the exact same subject and lighting conditions and the chromatic abs on the AF was off the charts! annoying!

Galeng Marty!
If i'll ever get that close to a performer, I hope I have my 50mm 1.8D with me so I can try this too.

question lang po ano yung sweet spot ng lens nito at talaga bang medyo masikip itong lens na ito when mounting unlike sa 18-70mm

honestly walang sweet spot ito.... at all f/stop ok sya at malinaw.. and masikip tlga sya pag-mount compared sa 18-70mm

The sweet spot for my copy was from f/4.0 - f/5.6

Really, I like this lens but I guess I'm out growing it... I need more contrast wide open, I need a wider focal length. I can compensate via in-camera pp, but I think 50mm isn't really well suited for digital and used wide open (due to CA, low contrast and sharpness at f1.8)

But it still has its uses.
