I'm eyeing a used Vivitar 35-70mm f/2.8-3.8 Macro.

Is this a good lens? Will this mount properly on the K10D?

If it's a Series 1, then it's a keeper. Check out the Serial number, and we can identify who the real maker is. Vivitar is a marketing company that outsourced all their lenses to OEM makers in Japan.

How do you identify a series 1? :)

Ok I found this guide. http://www.robertstech.com/vivitar.htm

28 is Komine Co. Ltd. Sorry, but I've never heard of them before.

Is this still a good lens?

Yes, Komine is one of those OEM makers used by Vivitar that made really good lenses, the Series 1 among them. Not sure about the lens being multicoated, however.

Speaking of 3rd party lenses, there's a brand new Tokina 28-70/2.8 for Pentax sitting in a box in Avenue (in Hidalgo). Don't know the price, never asked...

Tempting... but I still need a grip and a flash. Plus, I need a wide end. I'm probably going to save up for the DA*16-50 for the rest the year. :S

Anyway, here's the Vivitar 35-70/2.8-3.8 with a ME Super for PhP2,500 for anyone interested. http://tipidpc.com/viewitem.php?iid=816616

Hehe, I think I'll pass muna. Actually at first I was just interested on the lens 'cause I thought it had an M50 or F50. Now I'm interested on the body. But I don't think I'll be using film anytime soon.

Plus, I don't know the condition of the items. I asked but the seller never replied regarding this. He did provide the serial number and details for the lens though.

Let's see, I might change my mind again hehe.

bong, i tried it out recently (tokina in avenue). also, its somewhere in the 30k range. i forgot exactly how much.

anyways, if you guys are interested, sanly has lowered selected da lens prices by up to 36%. also, the af 540 fgz flash is now P19,200. K10d is down to 49,xxx. body only. i still dont know how it compares to camerahaus prices as i only go to sanly. apologies. just call them and ask lovely (cubao) or reggie (megamall showroom).

Let me guess, the ad says "slightly used"? :D

I highly doubt a ME Super to be slightly used. Haha.

I won't be surprised if it's overly used.

@Joey - - Sanly said the 540 FGZ is P22.5K. You seem to have a suki discount at P19.2K. :D :D

Camerahaus price is P24K. So everybody will now consider Sanly for their next purchase. Hehe!

That much I figured. I was debating with a friend who almost bought a used Nikon version of that lens for P25Ksomething on its merits. The Tamron 28-75/2.8 Di is cheaper if available (Henry's had one for Pentax sitting in his stante...).

hi jamie,

ask for lovely, 9120640. last time i checked with her is that after the 36% discount, it's down to 19.2k. i asked her if the deal was for all, and she said YES. IT'S FOR ALL. better yet, sabihin mo sa kanya, "sabi ni pastor joey."

happy shooting!

kasi ang alam nila, pag pastor, walang pera.

maybe i have my figures wrong, but i was there yesterday and trying to decide which flash to buy - the ftz 500 (P 14,xxx after discount) or the 540. i need the cheaper one for "pang-harabas" but the small price difference between the two units makes it harder for me to decide. ang mas matindi pa dun, wala pa akong pera. pero faith, meron.

Haha :D

Thanks for sharing.

I'm also eyeing a flash either the 360 or 540. I really like the swivel of the 540 but I don't really need all that power. Then again, I think there is an issue with the 360 and the K10D's auto-iso. I'm still on the fence on this.

Faith trumps money anyday. :)

i used a 360 with my DS more than a year ago. i didn't like the non-swivel design. and about a month or two after first use, the rear curtain sync and high-speed sync wouldn't function. they had to send it back to japan for repairs. at that time, sanly loaned me the ftz 500. since i mostly use manual mode for flash, it worked fine. (you just have to make sure the 500 is locked securely on the hot shoe because it has a tendency of loosening up in use.)

anyway, japan sends back my 360, which worked fine until it just stopped dead - during a wedding! we send it back to japan, they changed the pcb inside, and it worked fine again. until the rear curtain and hi-speed sync functions fail to work again. oh well...

by that time i already had the 540. and have been using it for seven months now. and i sold my 360, with my first DS body and kit lens - all for 20k. the 360 has served its purpose but its non-swivel design restricts my shooting. i'm not saying that all 360s are defective. maybe i just got a lemon.

just my 2 cents. :)

Then, 540 it is. Thanks for the feedback. :)

Now a few weeks more of cup noodles should do it.

You can try the 360 with a flash synchord
