Have you noticed we have only a few "braved' photographers out here who are prepared to hear comments about their photo works? whether positive or negative feedbacks about their particular works i'm sure they are ready to listen to it. I've seen lots of foreign forums who took criticism as a learning experience. Others may not accept it specially here in our country. It really feels good when you work your way up as an artist photographer accepting "another artists'" point of view, "walang personalan"...critiquing your work will hone your vision as others see it differently, you may not like the comments but hey someone is helping you out!. My professor in college crumpled all my prints for me to produced good plates!
I always think that i'm up the ladder but someone (a co-photographer below me is holding the ladder for me) So folks please post your photos in our CRITIQUE gallery and learn from each other- just a warning though, the mods are supervising the threads for any flaming. Let's activate that critique gallery and enough with the usual " nice", "galing", "excellent", "husay"....tell the truth "kahit masakit man" and give your suggestions all the way folks!:) :)

In some websites abroad, they require an explanation if a critique gives a mediocre or fair rating (1 or 2 on a 5 scale), and the administrator pulls off a comment if they think its a retaliation..

They also encourage advice from more experienced photographers to improve a picture if deemed mediocre since the site is a mix of beginners and professionals.

That way they encourage more photographers to patronize the site and develop a constructive non-competitive atmosphere..

There's a critique area under Photo Gallery. Scroll towards the bottom and post your photo in the category that best describes your photo. It won't take too long before one of the mods or other good amateurs here make comment.

i second this suggestion. also a quote from another board:

I sort of like how a magazine has photos submitted by their readers critiqued.

They have one section where images are critiqued by a panel of experts.

They have another section where images are critiqued by a professional photographer, an enthusiast and just your everyday person. But this section has guide questions for the panelists:

1) What do you think of this image?
2) What are your main criticisms?
3) What could the photographer done better?
4) Final Verdict?

I suppose that I like the second section more because it offers a greater variety of comments based on the profiles of the critique panel.

hi ross, i do agree with you and that is why i posted some of my images in. mario was kind enough to have visited my gallery and give a critique. I appreciated that. Francis came by as well. i look forward to educated and professional critique of what I post and i expect some positive as well as points of improvement which is why I would always ask for comments and compliments. I suppose a way to critique would be compliment, comment and then compliment again (just like in HR)

i do hope the critique section becomes more active as, personally, i believe it will hone my skills and make me enjoy my photography more.

thanks guys

I agree with this Ross. Yes we could say that a photo is nice but the more important thing is why is it nice? What elements of the photo makes it stand out? As the photographer we can learn from these comments. And, to be fair, when someone says that your photo is not nice, there should also be some explanation why, so you won't end up doing it again...

Let's activate that critique gallery and enough with the usual " nice", "galing", "excellent", "husay"....tell the truth "kahit masakit man" and give your suggestions all the way folks!:) :)

Sometimes being subject to the critique of others seems abit uncomfortable... Specially if we are well aware that something beautiful is a subjective thought process in the mind of the beholder... That's why sometimes it feels more like what is beautiful is something that is pleasing or appealing and in general comformity with a specific target audience... :) Just typing thoughts here...

Sige nga let's try it...

A website called Photosig (http://www.photosig.com) is a critiquing website. Some people really post very hard comments on some photos, but other people will defend you if they see you are being attacked personally. There are still others whose photos are really downright nasty and deserve the lambasting. Check it out.

Personally, I think once a person posted an image (or a link to an image) to any forum or thread, that image is subject to critiques, comments and the image is fair game.

Only exception that I can think of are images posted to show samples of camera/lens quality or capability (e.g., when someone asks for a sample for comparison purposes, etc.).

True. True. I guess unless otherwise specified of course...
