Nick Tuason 05-14-2006, 10:29 AM RGDC,
Our rules only allow real user FIRST and LAST names. I sent you an email about this. I am certain you will also hear from Anton Sheker who moderates this category.
Appreciate the comment about a cool new place to hang out. We go live to the general public on June 1 with the launching of Digital Photographer magazine. We have plenty of sponsors supporting us and we are going to working to get our members special privileges from them. You won't be able to benefit from any of this if we don't have your real first and last name.
Thank you for your consideration.

I've been messing about with digital cameras since 2002, happily making snapshots, but I got serious late last year and took a photography class. Big mistake, financially, since not long after that I jumped on the DSLR bandwagon. :)

Anton Sheker 05-19-2006, 06:06 PM Does anyone know how to get to Nikon Office in Hongkong?
Al Mendoza 05-19-2006, 06:24 PM Does anyone know how to get to Nikon Office in Hongkong?
Hi! This might help on your inquiry;
The address for Nikon Hong Kong is : Room 1001, 10th floor, Block 1, Tai Koo Shing, 1111 King's Road, Quarry Bay, Hong Kong. Tel 29029000; Opening hours : Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday 8am to 12 noon. Try to be there in the morning, less queues. The building is not particularly easy to find, Quarry Bay is on the Island side, between North Point and Shaukeiwan. The district is a mixture of residential and commercial buildings. So try to be there early if possible. I hope this helps.

Hi Al,
welcome to the group.
What model of canon where you using and why did you switch? They say once people are "canonized" there is no turning back... can you please enlighten the group?
Al Mendoza 05-22-2006, 01:53 AM Hi Al,
welcome to the group.
What model of canon where you using and why did you switch? They say once people are "canonized" there is no turning back... can you please enlighten the group?
Hi Anton,
Thanks for the warm welcome here at DPP. I was a "Canonite" in the early 80's and that's when I used to live in the US. My Canon A1 system, a film/35mm SLR, introduced in the late 70's still lives with me albeit need lots of serious cleaning/repair due to nearly 2 decades of storage and shelving. Plans of reviving it aint so far and hopefully will be of use again. Really liked that Canon A1 a lot, but sadly its days have passed.
Fastforward, DSLR goes mainstream. It was a choice between Canon and Nikon, and since I was starting fresh in the Digital world and for some reason I cant point my finger on (maybe the color, the Flash, lenses, quality, etc.) but the dark side lured me to its arms and so there... the D200 was it! It was a tough decision choosing between Canon and Nikon, with No regrets truly happy with the choice.... at least so far! (3 months)
best regards,
Al

carlos ramirez 05-25-2006, 07:52 AM former canon user here same as al mendoza, my canon is an A-1, loved that camera, i still have it but i think that it's time has passed, so i got a nikon d70. given my budget then the choice was between that and the e0s 300, the nikon just felt better, hehe, i know, very subjective!
still consider myself a newbie, kulang talaga sa practice, took the basic photo course just last year, so much to learn so that i can maximize my d70.
great camera btw!! i really hope to learn more from this nikon lovers forum :)
Anton Sheker 05-25-2006, 08:17 AM they say that Nikon users are a dying breed, but funny when you look at the most active threads here, we are second.. :)

g-nie arambulo 05-28-2006, 05:51 PM Ay....I use fuji, nikon, canon and whatever is available in our studio... I believe camera is just a tool to make good pictures, let us be open enough that all of us are photographers and cameras are just tools that we need. We must not be slaves of our equipment. It's not the camera that makes good pictures it's the person behind it.

willie de vera 05-28-2006, 08:37 PM after i was introduced to photography with a Petri slr camera gift from my dad, it was Nikon all the way from photomic F2, FM, FE, FM2, F3, and then the big digital leap to D70 :) Nikon was second to none to the professionals then, until.. well, you know the rest of the story :D Nikon still rules! :)
dindin_lagdameo 06-01-2006, 02:32 PM I've been a proud Nikon user since 1998... F90x! Coolpix4300 in 2003... D70 in 2004... desperately saving up for a D200.
Nikon, hands down, looks better than any other camera brand and the Nikon glass... amazing!
Eric Dino 06-05-2006, 05:11 AM One of the few Nikon Knights, Few Good Men around. We are not the dark side, we are the Jedis. Let's talk about color rendition, skin tones and sharp images. Well, the other side cannot be compared. As what the ad says, there's no competition, the D2X and D200 have arrived. Cameras are only tools but let's look at the figues and statistics. What System does the best photographers use around the world? - NIKON. You cannot make a masterpiece without having the right tools and equipment. If a painter uses the wrong brush, the painting will be different. :-). No wars, just facts. The truth will set us all free. Nikon Forever and Ever, Amen. God Bless.
levi lacandula 06-06-2006, 09:20 AM yep, nikon user here.
got to try a lot of cameras in the past, but i guess i 'll never go back after using NIKON!:D

Henjie Taguinod 06-08-2006, 08:30 AM Another Nikon user here. Current Nikon is a Coolpix 4500 (although I'm selling this one, check bidshot or ebay.ph). Saving up for a Nikon DSLR. :)

Master Henjie from PhilMUG! I have yet to meet you in person. There's talk of the D70s successor on the horizon, so that may be something to think about.
Carlo R. Lopez 06-08-2006, 11:38 AM There's talk of the D70s successor on the horizon, so that may be something to think about.
really? i would think they would come out with the d2xs successor before they come up with the d70s replacement
Al Mendoza 06-08-2006, 01:03 PM really? i would think they would come out with the d2xs successor before they come up with the d70s replacement
Yes, like Tj, I heard/read about the forthcoming successor on the D70s, maybe a D80. Hopefully it'll be soon after the D2xs release.
Exciting times up ahead for Nikonians!!!
.
tj_parpan 06-08-2006, 01:47 PM The D2Xs wasn't a real jump, more of an enhancement. If the the D80/90 comes out it might be with or before the the D3X. Rumors I've heard on the D3X:
- full frame sensor
- sensor cropping to allow use of DX lenses
- much higher resolution (16 to 22MP)
Then again rumors are just another form of wishful thinking!
rosalie_gomez 06-08-2006, 02:13 PM I read somewhere that Nikon is suppose to launch 2 cameras this year: the first is the D2Xs. Wonder what the 2nd one will be... :)
levi lacandula 06-08-2006, 08:22 PM hmm.. a D80 or D90?!? hmmm wondering how Nikon would price them.
Niko Villegas 07-15-2006, 03:31 AM lured by the darkside it is, was having a coverage for Hyundai in the cordilleras and was with Chino Acosta, don't know if you have heard of him (great guy and good photographer) but nevertheless the story goes, i was still a canonite with the 300d and he (chino) was carrying a D70, all 4 days i couldn't believe my eyes, how come the tones (colors) from the Nikon came out better than my Canon, we had similar shots and i just couldn't stand the fact that the pictures he took will come out better, no offense to Chino but i've just had it with the Canon, as soon as i got back to DC was on the market to look for one and i guess destiny took it's course, my dad called me up and said that a friend was offering a week old D70s with several peripherals (bag,CF etc...) for a very good price, i said it was a good deal (my dad still doesn't want to join the digital bandwagon, a purist by heart) he got it for me (VERY HAPPY) and found out that it was the same friend that got him his first Nikon back in the day. several hand me down lenses later, it will now be NIKON for me always and i like the fact that we brand Nikonians as the darkside because of the lens hahaha nice monicker, we do indeed have the black lenses
as i always say breaking the irony of the canon, lured by the darkside and finally using a namesake, my dad named me after the brand (minus the N) of course.
the Nikon D70/s is indeed one of the best cameras out there and currently saving up for a d200 and a 70-200mm VR hahay to my fellow Darths keep the darkside strong in us!
jameslgo 07-20-2006, 02:21 PM used nikon ever since. i'm still happy with the brand. hehe
Rolando Avecilla 07-20-2006, 02:29 PM :( I almost cried. :D
Do not also forget that aside from being dark siders, we are also the few and the brave.
Happy shooting.

jingmagsaysay 07-27-2006, 11:59 AM Started out in photography with my Dad's Petri 7, then went on to an Asahi Pentax Spotmatic SPII (really good camera); then I got my first Nikon, an F3, which I used with a Micro-Nikkor 55mm f2.8, a 105mm f2.5 and a 28-105mm 1:3.5-4.5. That was it. I later got an FM2. Early this year I bought a D70s kit and 3 months later I upgraded to a D200 kit. Guess what - I still use my 55mm Micro-Nikkor, 105mm and 28-105 with the D200! I just get a kick out of watching the numbers change on the control panel whenever I manually turn the aperture ring. Sometimes I just mount the old lenses on the D200 and look at it and think WOW, that is simply brilliant. What WAS state-of-the-art is STILL state-of-the-art. Great engineering. Kinda like a Lancia Delta Integrale but takes better photos. ;-) Cheers Nikonians!
Rolando Avecilla 07-27-2006, 12:46 PM Cool! I am glad you are enjoying your Nikon D200... You know what, because of this capability of the D200, I often get -FEE- error when I use the lens back on my D70. :D

Just curious, what made you switch from D70 to D50? :)
Hi Rosalie,
Sold my D70 last year, needed the money and its only now that i was able to buy a DSLR. I love the D70 but i'm still on a tight budget, so i got the D50 instead though i got a real good deal. ;)
rosalie_gomez 07-27-2006, 11:17 PM @Vince
Oh, ok! I've been told that one advantage of the D50 over the D70 is less noise when shooting at high ISO. :)
dindin_lagdameo 07-27-2006, 11:19 PM @vince
just keep shooting!!! :-)

nap_alcedo 08-01-2006, 10:45 PM For those of you who are lusting for a D200, Frank from Aperture told me that he can give me one for 78K. Much cheaper than Avenue in Hidalgo who quoted me a price of 88K as of today. Go go go Nikonians.

joe_galian 08-02-2006, 12:02 AM My first camera was a Canonet rangefinder in the 80s. I use sometimes use Bug Nieva's Canon 1Ds Mark II in the studio. But at heart I'm a Nikonian Knight! The "dark side" cannot fool me.
Nikons are better built and a tad cheaper. In fairness, Canon lense IS has a slight edge...but there only...maybe after sales too (they can provide service units if your Canon is under repair)! The rest, flash tech, matrix, etc...go to Nikon (broadly speaking).

joe_galian 08-04-2006, 02:08 AM Sali din me-pwede? Nikon Knight me!
Raffy Crucillo 08-04-2006, 07:44 AM I've enjoyed photography ever since I could remember (started of with those Instamatics). Got my first SLR back in 1991 (an Olympus OM10), my 2nd in 1997 (a Pentax ZX-50), and finally... my first Nikon last 2005 (a D50).
I've always wanted a Nikon (my grandfather uses Nikon, and I'm happy to get any opportunity to use it).
My D50 body is with my dad now (I gave it to him) when I got my D70s. Happy with both cameras... Happy to be on the dark side.
Niko Villegas 08-05-2006, 11:13 AM yeah! generations baby generations! nothing beats a NIKOn buwahahahahaha :)
Anton Lorenzo 08-14-2006, 08:05 AM I must admit that my first SLR was a Canon (given to me by my dad). I even bought a second Canon (an AE1) after that.
But when I got my first Nikon, there was no turning back. I have been a Nikon user ever since. In fact, I still have my old F2!
I'm now a proud user of a D70s.
Louieescobar 08-14-2006, 08:21 AM Hello my fellow Nikonians!
My name is Louie Escobar, i'm from Washington DC. Got my first Nikon Camera (D50) last Dec 2005, then addiction goes on after 2months bought my 2nd camera (D70s), then after 2 months again bought a used D100.
LOVE KO TO'
I'm a SOLID NIKON FANATIC!
dino_de_leon 08-14-2006, 01:39 PM hello dpp members,
hope this thread is still active...i've been into photography for about 3 yrs now...still very much an amateur though i get to trick my company to hire me at times!
eitherway, below is a history of the cameras i used...
Pentax MZ-M - an autoexposure manual slr
Canon 300D - best body ergonomics in my opinion
Nikon D100 - i'm one of the few who made such kind of a switch...and no looking back
Nikon D2H - only 4mp but heck...it does the job for me! :)
to keep up with the topic of this thread...yeah i'm forever a nikonian!
alex_paulino 08-14-2006, 02:09 PM Good Morning DPP members,
My first film camera was a 110 instamatic given to me by my Tita from the states. Although I would like to make it a hobby but my Dad kept on telling me it's an expensive one, he's into tennis. When I got married and had our first baby I borrowed my Mom's Nikon film (point and shoot) camera. I decided to get my own but I got myself a Canon BF7 film camera.
Then I realized I wanted to do more so in 1996 I got myself my first SLR, a Nikon FM10. I read the ads of Columbia they were selling it for 10T with 10 rolls of film. I went to Hidalgo and bought one. In 2004 my wife was asking for a camera but she wouldn't want to use my FM10 so I bought her a Nikon F55. Last year, I got my first digital camera for my eldest son a Canon A400 and another one a Minolta Z1 for myself to try digital photography. It came to a point I realized the advantages of a digital SLR over a P&S even if it would be the ultra zoom digicams. So I did my review and research, my choices were: Canon 350D, KM 5D, Olympus E500 and Nikon D50. Guess what I got? Nikon D50 with 2 lens kit (18-55 & 55-200mm) and Nikon SB600 flash. I recently added a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8. I'm planning of getting another lens a 60mm f/2.8. Hopefully my wife won't kill me when she finds out about this kit. She knows it's my hobby and passion to take pictures of the family and everything around me. I will be coming home this coming November and show it to my son. He likes photography too and he might even ask me to give to him. Maybe after I get a D80 maybe next year. To sum it all up Nikon would be the camera for me when it comes to performance and quality.
Hopefully di masyadong mahaba kuento ko :-) Solid Nikonian.
Niko Villegas 08-17-2006, 01:57 AM we all have our stories alex . . . good idea to give the D50 to your son and get the D80 . . . keep the shutter clickin for father and son . . . the dark side is strong in you ;)
Gahum_Garcia 08-20-2006, 03:37 PM i think this thread would be an appropriate venue for my firts post! :-)
Nice to know that there are other nuts out there other than myself. Got into photography as a hobby 18 months ago with a canon ixus. thought it wasnt good enough then i got the d70. i guess i got lucky because i was getting some professional jobs to pay for my new found obsession. 3 months ago i got the d200, and just last week, i got the d2x. the punchline? i kept all the bodies! i cant seem to let go of any! Love Nikon! and if it werent for me, "Someone" in THIS board who convinced me to sign up would be sporting "the other" brand.
BTW, is it a bad word to say the "C" word?
Peace!

Only if you say it in vain or else we'll fight back.

You're right Niko, like what they said in the movie. The Nikon Jedi Knights will prevail over the dark side of the force.

zandy_marantal 08-27-2006, 04:15 PM Hi I'm Zandy and I'm also hooked on Nikon. (By the way, I'm new to the site)
My first digicam was a Coolpix 990 bought in early 2000. Upgraded to a Coolpix 4500 later, then got my first DSLR (D70) in 2004. I now shoot with a D200.
Nikon has the best ergonomics.
