I think, this was one of the exciting places on that park. However, changing the photographer's perspective, angle can make this image more striking. You can remove some of the components inside your composition, you can also focus on one of the pylons and shoot from there..

Keep on rocking Bong !

It was really proven that you're really hooked by motors.. heheh! great product shoot.. Lighting was very well executed here brother. I was just confused if it was my monitor problem, I think PP was a little bit over contrasted, but not too much.. Just a very little lesser contrast will do. :)

Rather than that, This one is perfect for a photo of the day. :)

My Photo of the Day.

C&C:

Lighting: Love the catch light. I could see the umbrella edges. The subject is also well lit the softness of the light wraps around your model.

Composition: I have an issue with cropping at the wrist, if only you could have included the whole hand. Also if you could have requested the model to raise her chin a little to lessen the baby fats on her neck.

I'll post mine later.

Thanks for those notes. I must admit composition was really bad in this frame. Its just that, I don't want to include the back of the chair (which the model puts her left arm) because it was distracting. Really appreciated your comment bro! :)

There goes our Big Boss!

Photo 1: Great light and leading line. I remember these set. I think the only thing that hinders my attention was the cropped tree. Maybe include a little more from it and that will be fine. :)

Photo 2: Nikon's color was really amazing. How ever, I think the image was a little bit tilted. :)

Photo 3: Great framing ! Great exposure. winning shot for me! :)

1. ahhmm, it's not cropped, all of these are SOOC, hehe., but i admit that the compo with that tree is confusing, hehe.,
2. yeah, it's a bit tilted, maybe i got confused with dark area., i forgot the alignment.
3. this shot took me a long-time before i hit the shutter., my face was almost on the grass.. hehehe ..;)

My Share for the day. Is this considered street photography?

Also does it bother you to post photos of strangers that you did not ask permission to shoot? Is it also considered stealing?

I think it's more of Photojournalism rather than street.

I think, shooting candid was okay. Just like shooting protesters around Mendiola. :)
This is my honest opinion . :)

I think January 9 is the feast of the Black Nazarene. I'm not available on weekdays because of work.

Also not avialable by this month because my father-in-law is in the hospital and there's no one to take care of my daughter.

Hi, very much interested to join the group. i just need to know and understand what are the requirements to be accomplished before i become a full-pledged member.

also, there's a line on page 1 which states: Official/Probationary Members will be posted online. how are official and probationary members identified? and will the probationary members transition to official or do they stay as probationary?

thanks!

Bob - I think it will be on January 8 (Sunday)

Ken - Probationary, I think they are the members who will be under observation for at least a month whether they stay active or not. Since we need quality not quantity members. :)

that's gotta come from somewhere dark and deep :D:D:D

@sean and klienne, what do you mean by under observation? what do you look for during the one month observation?

now going back to my initial question, with a purpose of clarification, is there a criteria that needs to be met or achieved before becoming a full-pledged member?

ex.
- must attend 3 consecutive monthly club meetings.
- must attend atleast 1 photowalk once a month for 3 months.
- must lead an activity for the club within the first 3 months of the probationary period.

so basically, based on the sample criteria i mentioned, the probationary period is 3 months. and it is a given that missing any 1 of the minimum requirement esp the activity will lead to forfeit membership.

maybe the club should have something like this in order to meet the club's goal.

@sir ken, and members

here's some spc members must know...

For those who's under probationary position. You will be a official member once you meet the requirements such as.

- You must attend at least 1 photowalk per month. You will be observe in 2 months time. So technically you have to attend at least 2 photowalk in 2 months.
- You must be active on DPP Thread 'OR' Facebook Group Page.

Attending Meetings and Leading a Photowalk
- As a group moderator, we will not force you guys to attend meeting nor lead a photowalk, at least for the first 3 months. Meetings and Photowalk Leading will be handle by SPC Admins. After 3 months, there will be a lot of Official Members, hence new requirements for Official member must meet. What are those?
- You must attend at least 1 meeting per month.
- You must attend at least 2 photowalks in 1 month.
- You must lead a photowalk. (We will post another thread on how to lead.)
- You must maintain activeness.

Members who are not able to meet those requirements are subject for force eviction (expelled).

How to regain membership?
- You must attend the 4 consecutive photowalks.
- You must be active on DPP Thread 'OR' FB Page everyday in 1 month.

Please define "activeness" in dpp and fb. Should we post a meaningful comment or share a photo at least once a week in both fb and dpp?

I dont see any issue with this, if a member can attend a photowalk at least once a month and share 4 photos in a span of 1 month, that isnt so difficult. I just recommend that we have this quantified to remove all subjective requirements.

Sorry, I'm an operations person and was trained this way. Everything should be measurable. Lets limit the subjectivity in our art (photos).:)

the opinion is quite good., let's say, on dpp or fb., share at least 2-5 photos per week,.. will update the docs later., ;)

I 85% agree on this, financial aide can be very helpful for our different activities... BUT, I think, the uniqueness of this club / the main signature is / are the Free models shoots (Free Models), however, if we want a real or more staged productions, we really need funds for that. And that will help the membership fee. I'm agree and quite disagree. lol! mixed emotion. ahahah!

Hi Sean, the sky is real... :) What isn't "real" there are the rocks, which I'll explain below:

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e86/juncarlo/dpp_attachments/dpp_32.jpg

As you can see on the original photo (left), the rocks are too "yellowish" because of Baywalk's street lamps behind me (my white balance is 5250K). In order for me to be able to somehow neutralize it, I created a virtual copy of the photo and changed its white balance to Tungsten.

Afterwards, I blended the two photos by applying a transparent gradient on the bottom part where the rocks are. (See this: Transparent Gradients (http://www.mediacollege.com/adobe/photoshop/transparent/gradient.html))

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e86/juncarlo/dpp_attachments/fb_wall_20111231.jpg

Final Photo

I actually did the blending in Adobe Fireworks. I am a web designer before I learned photography so I really learned how to use Fireworks first before Photoshop. :D

Got it !!! I think I have to wait for that kind of light in the Baywalk to see that magnificent sunset. :)

Save for this year's La Niņa, the months of December to March are the best times (based from experience) to see such sunset.

First, the Sun is located in the southern part of the sky, thus, it is not hiding behind the mountains of Bataan. With that, the sunset's glow is much more beautifully reflected in the sea.

Second, the weather is perfect during these months because of the absence of tropical storms. Plus, the wind is calmer.

Hi Sean, it was actually taken with a AF-D Nikon 105mm f/2.8 Micro! :D The AF is very very slow and I'm using manual focus most of the time, anticipating on where the bird will go since they seem to be flying in a pattern when looking for food. They sometimes fly very near to the seawall itself, that's why I was able to capture it that close.

Wow.. I really want to have a photoshoot that was a Black and White Classic Fashion.. How about making it as a monochrome Ely ? Superb Shot ! Love the Bokeh.

thanks sean.

I choose shoot in colour to emphasize saturation on the wardrobe.
and BW is the last thing on my mind. though the most common on this themed shoot would be BW, i just went the other way around :D.
we could do a themed shoot like this, what cha think?

here's another shoot;

I'll go with photo number 1. Since, I think, when shooting a still life / product / miniatures, it's better if you shoot it in close up to let the viewer look at it as a real life size thing or something like that.

Just a comment, if you use a nifty fifty on these pictures, I was just disappointed with the sharpness. try to increase 1 or 2 stops of aperture. the sweet spot of every lens ( I think ) is on the 2nd or 3rd to the largest aperture. if you have a 1.8, the sweet spot of that ( I think ) is 2, or 2.8, or 3.5, something around that aperture.

just my 2 cents. :)

On my opinion, I think it's better to have that model / car photoshoot somewhere like a park, or any "On Location shooting" it's because, environment can bring more life to the theme. Rooftop, or park, or any open space with interesting elements that can be added on the composition.

Here's some of the examples:

+2 on sean's advice., using 1.8 actually doesn't give an accurate sharpness you expect..,

I'll take note of this Sean. I'm actually clueless on how to make the photo sharper than it appears. I haven't tried using my kitlens and a real flash so maybe that's another reason. The lighting just came from a regular desk lamp. I'll give it another shot maybe tomorrow.

thanks for letting me know about the sweet spot. :)

thanks for letting me know about the sweet spot. :)

As Ken told me, and as what I've heard from other photographer's especially those who are in to portraiture, they always start from f/4 (which is the most common sweet spot) in what ever lens they have. neither a prime or just an ordinary kitlens, and so on.. Then, that's the time where they will increase nor decrease the aperture depending on the situation (kind of light, ambient, flash, etc.)

As if you look to the exifs of my portraits, I usually play with, f/4, 4.5, 5.6 and sometimes 3.5. a little share from my experiences. :)

enjoy shooting guys.

i have a little c&c with this shot..

1. try to use low-value (2.8, 3.5, etc.) aperture to separate the subject from the background.
2. watch the highlights (forget this if that's intentional ;))
3. i'm worried about the sharpness of the photo., it's too soft for me (OOF?)., have you shot this handheld?
4. the compo is quite in place. ;)

Another point, I would like to ask for some tips regarding my IR problem. I was able to see the initial IR shot taken by a Canon camera. There was already a clear distinction between the yellow and the blue hues. I did the same with my Nikon camera and I ended up with very red picture.

Here is a past shot taken yesterday at Neopolitan working on the same concept (custom preset, over exposure). I ended up with the same very red picture but I was able to segregate a bit of blue from the whites. I always seem to just chance upon it. Maybe someone can give me a tip on how to take better IR photos. I know that there are cameras with a very high anti-IR built in filter but I also know that it is possible to take false colors. Hope someone can help. Thank You! ^___^

Oh and please murder this picture... Criticism is the soul of improvement... ^___^

nice try on a tilt-shift lens ..;)

Thanks Sir Rob! I find this lens a bit hard to use though, especially when I am trying to do the perspective control thing for architecture. I borrowed this lens just twice from the school so I never really had the chance to use it that much.

It may be sad that I missed yesterday's photowalk due to some school stuff, I'll just join the next one. But here's my share for today.

Partial Solar Eclipse, taken exactly two years ago (January 15, 2010) at Baywalk... :)

Hi Sir Peter, it may be a bit overexposed I think? :)

As I've seen this picture, I think it was underexposed. You may want to try a longer shutter speed, something like 60-80secs and so on... it is because, IR filter was so dark, don't rely on the LCD on your screen when you want to have an IR, historgram reading is also a plus on this kind of technique.

Composition wise, I feel doomed (or somewhat dark places for horror movies) which is a unique and good idea.

However, I see vignette on this shot, is it accidental ? I don't think vignetting is good on landscapes (just on my taste, we all have different approach on everything) :)

just my 2 cents.

ahhh the first group hug shot for the year. and it was taken from a NIKON cam :(

My share for today. My first shot using my CPL properly:

http://static.365project.org/1/2364328_degjkrsw08_l.jpg

Is your CPL fake? heheheh! peace brother !

I like how you use your CPL. very creative. :)

just my comment (based on my taste), I think it's better if you cut the lower part (the original house) and leave the reflections only. A more artistic (abstract) approach.

But, everything is in good shape. great shot ! :)

i have a little c&c with this shot..

1. try to use low-value (2.8, 3.5, etc.) aperture to separate the subject from the background.
2. watch the highlights (forget this if that's intentional ;))
3. i'm worried about the sharpness of the photo., it's too soft for me (OOF?)., have you shot this handheld?
4. the compo is quite in place. ;)

cheers!.. just my 2 cents . ;)

yup! i think the subj is OOF, i also tried to blur the BG horizon tru post processing.

anyway thanks bro!

First pic was the best for me.. Lighting and pose was in good shape. Tack sharp (as expected since you have a good gear, but still, that's just a minor plus factor :)) Just a very minor comment on Photo no. 1, the grass on her back was distracting.

Also, whenever shooting portraits, the basic on composition is to know where to cut the frame. Here's a little guidelines for cropping while shooting portraits.
(You may just click the link belo)

Crop Guidelines (http://www.petapixel.com/2011/09/29/crop-guidelines-for-portrait-photography/)

But, everything was fine. Just try to give another shot and continue learning. :)

Photo no. 2, You can put another light (i know you're using ambient light here) on the hair to separate the black hair from the black / dark brown color of the wood. And, try to shoot on the model's level. Since she was sitting down, you may also want to lay down and shoot at his eye level. It is because, When you shoot from the top, the head will look big and the body will become smaller. Just like Peter said, Anything pointing directly on the camera will look big. :)

Photo no. 3, great composition here! cheers! Just a little under exposed for me, you may want to adjust the light on post processing. But, I just want to remind you that, it is better to work on actual than working on computers. :) As most of the videos that I've watched, every photographers remind us that, it is most important to do all the things in actual shooting (maybe 85-90% of the process) and give a little boost on Post Processing.

just my 2 cents.

But, I would like to congratulate you for having these shots.. clap clap ! Cheers!

Hi guys good morning, Im having a dilemna right now.. I want to get a new lens for my slr i dont have budget as of this time so i would go for tamron lens. Currently im using a nifty fifty.. im planning to buy either a 17-50mm tamron or 10-24mm tamron. i cant decide what to buy and i do need your opinion about this. ive read the reviews for both lenses just to let you know still i cant make up my mind. :(

I think both were a little soft. try to increase shutter speed or practice to handheld your cam more steadily.

Photo 1: I see the concept, I can see that there's the controlled light.
clap! clap! cheers!
However, the softness really distracts me. Also, you may want to crop the lower part of the image to remove the lower part of her right arm, since it don't show where she was holding. (hard hard english) hahah! can't translate it . lols

Photo no. 2: you may want to put the model / subject on the lower right thirds of the frame. Since you use a ray of light effect pointing at the lower right, you may want to adjust the subject on the lower right portion. Again, image is a little bit soft.

Just my 2 cents . cheers! :)

I like that first photo. creating angles really makes a unique image. This must be print. :)

Full body shot: I like how you use that leading lines (banks) to move the viewers attention to the model. It's just that, the eyes portion was a little bit underexposed. :D

hi..newbie here. I'd like some opinion on what or which dslr is worth your peso. nikon, canon ,etc. and what model?
from the group , which camera is the most preferred? i'd be interested to buy one, probably in the P30T to P50T range only.
kindly advise.

Hello Ariel. The answer is... It depends. But Stellar is actually dominated by Canon users, and during regular comparison conversations each has his/her own opinion on why we like that brand or model.

My suggestion is you borrow different models and brands to try it out yourself. Then pick what suits you best. Just bear in mind that the brand you start with is normally the brand you stick too. Not only because you are used to it but you have already invested x amount of pesos on accessories (I.e. Lenses, flash guns, triggers etc) for that particular brand.

Me personally, I like Canon's ergonomics but I prefer Nikon's SOOC images.

Hope this helps. You might also want to read on the threads in the beginners forum, there are tons of useful information there.

Hi John,

For some reasons, I can view your shots here in the office. hehe Anyway, I like the first photo, the lighting, the composition, the slight blurring of the background and not to mention it's tack sharp too. :)

I can't quite discern though if this is natural lighting or did you use a flash? Can you share the exif of the photo?

good job on this shot John! :) :) :)

Excellent capture on Photo no. 2 Bob ! woohooo!!! You can just remove the flare by using healing brush.

Photo 1: just a comment, the lower half of the Image I think is over saturated. However, I like the treatment. hoooray!!!

Also., thanks for the tripod. ahahha! lol

Imagine life at it's darkest hour.
Have you ever seen this beauty of creation at your blackest night?
I've been searching for the best words to describe this emotions.
But I was afraid I can't find one.

I'm Speechless. wooot!
