Hmmmm.... was the firmware properly installed?

What is the readout in your status LCD? Err99?

No error sign it will just hang up.. even you push the buttons nothing happens.. I tried removing the battery and tried turning it on then back to normal as if nothing happens.

Hmmmm... the camera will sometimes not shoot if the lens has not properly focused.

Or does it malfunction in a different way?

Can you access the menu and the other camera functions (i.e. aperture, shutter speed, ISO, WB)?

Sorry for bugging you with questions. I'm just trying to isolate what's wrong.

Perhaps a quick visit to a Canon center might help. I guess they have diagnostic equipment to detect any fault.

Actually, I'm trying to determine if he does have to go to the service center :D

Not that it's a bad idea to go to the service center :D

My office is just walking distance away from a Canon Center ergo my simplistic suggestion. :) I keep forgetting some people have to travel great distances to reach a center which is why you're right in determining if he really has to go or not. :Dum: Cheers!!

Hi ManFai Hui (http://www.digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/member.php?u=836)

i think we have the same problem before,

i got a problem also last january (sinulog time) My 350D got hang up and correct me if im wrong, if you you see the view finder, the screen in something dark? and until i got a ERR 99 error,
my boddies told mi to clean the lens connector ? or the contact between the body and the lense? something bronze in color. :)

I clean with a pincel eraser on that area, and it works for a couple of shoots and busted again

In my side i think your lense was a problem, because in my part im using SIGMA lens and when i take my lens to canon service here in cebu they found out my lens is busted , that why i bring my lens to JTPhotoworld... now my camera and my lens is working perfectly, thanks to jerome of JTPhotoworld :)

hope this well help :)

Actually we where having a photoshoot in a studio when it first happened. The i could still see something on th view finder but the problem is i can not use the functions keys. i tired turning of the cam but it didn't help at all so i end up removing the battery.

The second incident when my friend barrowed it and had a photoshoot in baguio.. same thing happened.

Just in case .. is there any canon service center near san juan ?? or q.c. thanks guys

Aly, you're so spoiled. I have to travel all the way from Region 4 (I live in Antipolo) just to visit Canon Marketing Philippines :D

But it looks like you were also right.

@ ManFai

I can't figure out any user viable solution. It looks like you'll have to heed Aly's suggestion and go to Canon Service Center in Makati. I don't think that Canon has a service center in San Juan.

Hahaha... spoiled?! If I were spoiled I would have brought my car to travel this two-block distance. hahaha.... :D I used to be a systems engineer during my younger years and I was licensed to sira, ika nga. So, I understand your position to try to fix it myself first before I bring it to a repair center. But nowadays with the convenience of a center near me together with my failing eyes and pasmado hands, I'd rather have Canon fix it for me. :)

I think i have the same problem with my 350D. this is what happened... I was taking some shots with a slow shutter speed. since i dont have a remote trigger, i used the timer. after like some 10 shots or so, the cam hanged up. as in it failed to fire after the 10-second timer count ended. what i did was similar to ManFai, took off the battery and CF card. then everything went fine.

It happens only when i'm using the self timer.

weird

Something similar happened to my 400D, I was in AV mode, and couldn't change the f/stop for some reason... I switch to full manual, and it works, back to AV, and it won't budge (EF 50mm f/1.8 btw), so I figure i have a similar button on the opteka grip... sure enough, that worked.... and once I did that, I tried again on the body still in AV mode, and it worked again. (but 400D doesn't hang though, just sometimes it starts to kludge)

Florencio,

I have the same experienced with my 350D, I was in M mode and the F/stop was in f22 and I couldn't change anymore. I have to switch off the camera and switch to other mode before I can move the f/stop. It happened 2 or 3 time already but not really a hindrance to my shooting so haven't send yet to service centre, though it's a bit alarming. . . :)
