View Full Version : Canon 600D + Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM?
Malvin Camina 11-20-2011, 01:13 AM Hi everyone,
I'm frustrated because I just heard that all the stores in hidalgo have run out of Nikon D90 Body due to the flooding in Thailand. I'm planing to combine it with Sigma 17-70mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM. After consulting each dealer I called about what is counter part model to DSLR for Canon, they all end up with Canon 600D. I've checked the price and review some specs/comparison between NIKON D90 vs Canon 600D. I decide to go with D90 with the fact that its sensor is slight larger than with 600D which really important for me. But after comparing the added feature that 600D can provide it got my attention. Price between the two diff brands well, I have thumbs up for Canon 600D.
Now Canon 600D + Sigma 17-70mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM? Will they work together besides the fact that it may require to callibrate the lens with JTPhotoworld? Need to buy both before wed next week... Kindly Pour the answers.... Cheers and thank you...
Johann Nery 11-20-2011, 05:43 AM I was able to try to use the Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4 os hsm, but was not satisfied with the lens. After many tries, I've ended up purchasing a Tamron 17-50 non-vc instead. I'll choose the 600d over the d90 because it is newer and I'm a canon user. Hehehe.

Hi, could you possibly tell what particular problem you have encountered with it. I'm gonna use it for wedding and portrait photography because a friend of mine is using it on a D90 body as a gen. purpose lens with fact efficient in LOW light conditions. My main reason also is to get close to my subject with these set of focal lenght available and prevent the hustle of changing the lens all the time. I'm also into landscape and seascape photography with my Current gears from my signature and considering its price I'm hooked with it. The only question is will it give me trouble in terms of mechanical to both lens + body rather than technical problem if we're talking about image results. I already made a research about its Image result in of Soft Copies and Large Prints so far I'm satisfied. By the way it is 17-70mm
Kindly share me a constructive observation base from your test in terms of "Mechanical Performance" of a Canon Body and the lens itself. Thanks for your Insights...
Johann Nery 11-20-2011, 07:09 AM Reading your signature makes me want to tell you to use Olympus hehehe. It will be cheaper not unless you are planning to switch brands.
Haven't tried the 600d, but have used the Sigma 17-70 with a 500d body. This lens was one of the two choices I had before I purchased the Tamron. I tried both lenses and decided to purchase the Tamron because of its image quality. It was sharper and the color it produced kinda fit more to my taste. I only hope that the Tamron was a bit longer as we have the same purpose to use it in portraits and weddings. The Sigma 17-70 in my opinion will only be of advantage in terms of focal length.
I did not find any issues in terms of its mechanical performance, but who knows I've only used it for awhile. I don't think you can go wrong in purchasing the Sigma 17-70 though. I always believe that anyone can make the most out of a newly purchased lens.
If you have the patience and money is no object, opt for the 24-70. Try the Sigma 24-70 os hsm. I've heard good reviews about it and it will be a good buy for portraits and weddings. (Sorry for not answering much of your questions about the Sigma. As I've said, I only used it for awhile and I can't give you any much but my opinion).

Thank you once again sir. The hotshoe of my olympus has gave up though I must admit, my Olivia (Olympus Cam Name) was a great weapon of choice under any circunstances. For 4 years of using it I've learned, and honed my skills in photography. It even withstand the Foggy weather of Mt. Pulag and the Sunny-Salted water of Zambales Coastline and misty waterfalls of Majajay Laguna (when i did my outdoor portrait) over the years and yet my Lenses never did have any scratches nor fungus aside of from the dots and hair-like fiber on the Penta-Mirror of the body but not its sensor. Bringing it to servimax will be expensive so i'll try to bring it to Mang Dong's Camera Repair Shop this december Since they repair all kinds of camera. Well anyways my budget is just 55k and I cannot go beyond it. Base on what I'm planing it could be the best arsenal to prospect good paying clients aside from our individual unique sets of skills. Happy shooting and thanks for reading ... Cheers once again

Nice to meet you Olivia. :D Good to here that you were able to make the most out of your cam. I just realize now that I've been referring to the 17-70 all the while. Hahaha! (Stupid me for being a selective reader, probably bored out of my work and have been dozing off while replying to your post :)). I've heard and read good reviews about this lens and I don't think you could go wrong in purchasing a 600d + the Sigma 17-50 f2.8 OS HSM.
