View Full Version : Going GaGa over Nikon lens + Pentax Body
willy_palacios 02-26-2007, 01:21 AM after reading an article I hurried & took out K100D to see if my Ai or AF lens fit the Pentax body. To my surprice it does Fit! but only snugs in about a 5mm to 7mm. shooting MF with the k100D is easier compared to my preivious Nikon/ Minolta bodies, oh did mention that the AF beeps while turning the focusing ring on the Pentax? here are a few sample in MF all manual setting wide open :) Too bad the K100D does not meter But SR works even with MF lens, all done in Picasa2 + sharpen

Randall Cipriano 02-26-2007, 03:22 AM Cool! Thanks for the info. Post more shots. :)
nino_carandang 02-26-2007, 07:29 AM how much sharpening willy did you do?
Aris Guerrero 02-26-2007, 08:13 AM nice bro willy. does it focus to infinity?
Raffy Crucillo 02-26-2007, 08:59 AM Does this mean Nikon lenses fit into a Pentax mount? I have an old Pentax film body that I'd like to test it with.
willy_palacios 02-26-2007, 09:59 AM how much sharpening willy did you do?
one pass in Picasa
& yes i think it can focus to infinty, will have to try it again.
here the shots again NO Sharpening from the AiS 135 & 80-200

Chelo Pascua 02-28-2007, 07:59 AM Yes it focuses even beyond infinity. There is a 1mm difference in flange/film or flange/CCD distance (http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/mounts.htm) (http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/mounts.htm%29).

It's a Nikkor 24-50mm AF-D lens on a Pentax *istDS. Be careful when attaching it though - only goes a few degrees turn.

Chelo must be quoting Buzz Lightyear, after all, isn't that a Gundam robot in the first photo?
:Grin::Grin::Grin:
Mounting a Nikon lens on a Pentax is fun for kicks. But you can't really "work" with it since the lens on turns so much and since it is only friction "locking" it into place, you have the constant danger of it falling off. Don't try turn to lock it any further because...well...I would not know what will happen. Unless someone has...
Come to think of it, I have a broken P30 and a moldy Nikkor, maybe I'll try it. After my caffeine shot...
willy_palacios 02-28-2007, 09:56 AM beyond infinity?
hehehe i guess what Chelo meant was beyond the ∞ sign on the lens  also one guy from dpr confirmed that it meters with the K10D! sweet :)
bongmanayon 02-28-2007, 10:05 AM Oh...the Gundam robot was Willy's photo...:BlackEye:
Had my coffee and tried it again. It only turns (2 degrees?) so much before stopping. Didn't try to apply any brute force to turn it any further.
Chelo Pascua 02-28-2007, 10:42 AM beyond infinity?
to infinity and beyond! Buzz Lightyear
I meant that infinity focus can be achieved before the infinity mark in the lens focus marker.
Yup it's just for kicks though, but I did hack a moldy Canon FD super tele (Tokina 170-500mm f5.6) to fit on my K-mount dSLR...need lots of patience though.
I`ll post examples of it later and the photographs taken with it.
Chelo

eiy Chelo seems like the photos are gone, care to up them again?
Chelo Pascua 08-05-2007, 10:02 AM Sorry Willy, already removed them from flickr. Thought DPP some sort of stores them in cache.
jefferdeguzman 04-04-2008, 09:42 PM Can i use a nikon reverse lens adapter on a pentax k100d?
adrianrodriguez 04-05-2008, 12:58 AM or better yet, a real nikkor to pentax adapter?
bongmanayon 04-05-2008, 08:16 AM Aha! You found the buried treasure, este, thread...
Read through the thread guys...
1) it is possible to mount a Nikkor lens on the K-Mount body so that applies to the reverse adapter as well
2) locking may only be through friction although Willy or Chelo mentioned being able to turn the lens all the way but not necessarily lock
3) because of difference in mechanical design there is no autofocus or even exposure control available
...
@Jeff...is it because you have a Nikon reverse adapter and you want to use it on your Pentax or is it because you want to use Nikkor lenses on your Pentax (but you don't have the adapter yet)?
@Adrian...Chelo pointed out the diff between the flange of Nikon and Pentax is 1mm; Nikkors as they are can be shoehorned into the Pentax body indicating that they 'almost' fit. Although there is an M42-Nikon adapter floating around there somewhere, to make an adapter that presumably have full actuation levers and contacts for AF and aperture control means adding what may be like a tele-converter with lenses, electronics, and levers mediating between the Nikkor and the Pentax body and vice versa. Not a cheap proposition, there may be optical degradation (because of the mediating glass) and it might be better just to buy a Nikkor for a Nikon and a Pentax for a Pentax.
jefferdeguzman 04-05-2008, 03:17 PM I asked because echostore doesn't have a reverse lens adapter for pentax but they have one for nikon.
bongmanayon 04-05-2008, 08:59 PM I asked because echostore doesn't have a reverse lens adapter for pentax but they have one for nikon.
Okay...if you don't have one yet, well...try to find the real thing. Acquiring a Nikon reverse ring is kind of stretching it, I just picked up my K-mount > 52mm reverse adapter recently in the Landmark sale so it is not impossible to find one of those locally (I think I heard of some used ones floating in Hidalgo) or in eBay.
Roger Pantuca 04-05-2008, 10:07 PM How about a reverse coupling filter ring so it's not limited to a specific mount? Need to use 2 lenses though. A 50mm lens mounted in reverse over another 50mm lens is supposed to give 1:1 magnification. What's interesting is when you use a longer lens on the camera side the magnification ratio goes beyond 1x. I once tried a 135mm and 50mm pair, sugar crystals looked like ice cubes! But the subject has to be extremely close to the glass that the lens will cast a shadow over the subject so you almost can't see it. And the image quality is nowhere near a real macro lens.
willy_palacios 05-01-2008, 04:06 PM Roger do you have samples from those setup? i'm kinda curious :)
Roger Pantuca 05-01-2008, 07:29 PM Willy, here are 4 test shots I did with a 50mm reverse mounted on a 135mm. The magnification I think is about 2.7:1 based on the lens ratio. The full-crop images give you an idea about the size of the area. Bottom images are toothbrush and sugar.

On second thought, the IQ looks pretty good as long as you get enough DOF. The DOF is extremely shallow; the sugar granules are on top of each other and it still produces bokeh! :D I don't remember the aperture anymore though, it was pretty small and I had my flash at full power through an umbrella. It was very difficult to focus because the lens casts a dark shadow over everything so I was pretty much focus bracketing. I read about a neat program that will combine several focus bracketed images into one image with deep DOF, but I lost the link.
With my current lens lineup I think I can do a 5.7:1 magnification using a 200mm and 35mm. I'm not sure if my calculation is correct though, I just read about it in passing and gave it a try. I bet it would be a pain to shoot though. :D
