View Full Version : Online Portfolio
JonDexterTan 07-10-2006, 12:00 PM Where do you suggest one should create his or her online portfolio? I've seen good ones in PBase (http://www.pbase.com), it has a trial period and its annual fee is reasonable if not cheap. Any other sites we should be aware of?
:)
estan_cabigas 07-10-2006, 12:46 PM there are lots of possible things that you can do:
- online photo sharing sites like Pbase, Flickr, etc. there are lots of communities and support in these sites and you really can learn many things if you join the groupings (in flickr)
- however, if you're serious on your photography, a personal online site is recommended
caloy_samson 07-10-2006, 12:47 PM photobucket...flickr?

yup, that's what i'm talking about :) but how about those photographers without access or enough resources for those personal urls, but would want a serious and formal online portfolio?

nino_carandang 07-13-2006, 03:15 PM i suggest that you buy your own domain. rather than presenting it via a free host.
Patrick Evangelista 08-31-2006, 09:55 PM If you know a little of web design, I suggest getting your own domain, you can get 1 for as low as $60/year... 24GB webspace and 800GB/month bandwidth, this includes a free domain name....this is what I use for my personal site.

It's always wise to know your limits... :) I'm sure Sonny, you can come up with something later... What's a website compared to something like making an IR filter from a floppy disk right...
Marco_Ingco 08-31-2006, 11:45 PM Smugmug is a good site, unlimited number of photos, unlimited number of galleries, and if you want, you can create a professional account where you can charge for your prints.
Shameless plug here: To save $5, use my personal coupon code when signing up: h5dPW3O0S0j6U. I'll save $10 :Dollar: :Dollar: on my next renewal, which is coming up soon...
To the moderators: if this is not allowed, I'll delete the Shameless plug portion, please PM me. Thanks.

Heard about this stuff... Just a question though... Do you need a merchant account if you're gonna charge for your pics online using a CC system there at Smugmug? :)

Good idea too, come to think of it, this will be cool, distribute first to family and friends...Im thinking "flash animation", compile good photos, do some animation, burn to CD.... then give away.:D

This is a very feasible plan... Just try to make it a hybrid disk if you can so that there will be ease of use and better accessibility for different OS users.

I'm not really sure but you can go here (http://www.smugmug.com/pro/) to find more details. I think they will mail you a check every month... though I'm not 100% sure.

:) Thanks Marco. I appreciate the resource.
ro_deleon 09-19-2006, 10:49 AM I've tried to upload my photos using Flickr but I'm only limited to 3 sets...poor me looks like I'll be needing an upgrade! :(
theressa_asis 10-04-2006, 06:42 PM try multiply its free and you can add up as many albums there is unlimited space. you can also blogs, videos etc... its very easy to upload photos and you can choose who can view your photos. it also allows you to edit the CSS of your website, allowing you to make it more personal.
www.multiply.com
Teejay Joson 10-04-2006, 06:46 PM how about www.fotki.com (http://www.fotki.com)
vittorio velasquez 10-25-2006, 08:20 PM bluehost.com is one of the best hosts in the world. 50gb space, 999gb bandwidth, you can even host 5 domains plus free 1 domain. For just less than 5k a year including your free domain. Get this plus use expose 4 from http://www.slooz.com/trinkets.php. It's a flash photo gallery for your website.
vittorio velasquez 10-25-2006, 08:24 PM I personally use zoto.com for my personal photos and some of my works because I haven't finished my portfolio site yet.
Randall Cipriano 10-26-2006, 02:06 AM Another alternative is negimaki.com, a free wordpress and gallery2 hosting service.
It's owned and run by Steve Caturan, a Filipino in the US.
Only WP and G2 is allowed but you can do lotsa of things with those, which includes a fully functional online portfolio.
They are strict though. They don't accept just anybody. You have to pass through a very thorough and bordering onto personal email and IM interview which will last atleast 15 minutes.
Sweet thing is they give you a whopping 8GB of storage and 16GB of throughput bandwidth excluding FTP access bandwidth.
All for free! Who can beat that?! http://negimaki.com/faq.php
al jacinto 11-15-2006, 04:58 PM Hi, fotopic is cool.
cheers!
mine is aljacinto.fotopic.net
Tammy_David 11-15-2006, 05:29 PM Since I can't afford my own domain, I'm very happy with flickr. The networking at lightstalkers is awesome too
dave_trinidad 11-15-2006, 07:07 PM i'll go for multiply. flicker is ok too but yes, limited album.
JerryVergel 11-16-2006, 01:47 AM I would recommend to invest on your own domain. There's a lot of webhost provider that includes free domain registration. I suggest to spend time doing research as once you settle with one host, it's not easy to switch to another.
Here's a site that has reviews of different webhost provider.
http://www.hostsearch.com/reviews.asp
Peaches Valera 11-16-2006, 02:42 AM if you really are serious in photography, investing for your own online portfolio is highly advantageous..
if you're interested in having your own website done, i know of a company who charges cheap..
http://www.ikidsonline.com (http://www.ikidsonline.com/)
Price ranges from Php 6000 - Php 15000 only!
(depending on your requirements)
They also have web hosting, you could check their website. :)
oh, they were actually the one who did my website..
Sherwin Andal 11-16-2006, 05:02 AM i suggest that you buy your own domain. rather than presenting it via a free host.
yes, its better to have your own domain. Most PROs do not use these free-storage sites coz they think these sites are somehow using their photos in some other purpose. hehe!
the one mentioned by Randy Tamayo is a good deal actually.
and if anyone's using an Apple, try using .Mac (you can create your own website using iWeb): Apple .Mac (http://www.apple.com/dotmac/features.html)
up to 1Gb of storage...
enjoy... :)
Melvin Medes 11-20-2006, 11:03 PM does eyefetch.com offers unlimited storage? :D
jerrytieng 11-20-2006, 11:21 PM Wow, I didn't there there were that *MANY* options! Quick question, if one were to have the luxury to cherry pick the best features of each site, what would the be?
1. free
2. unlimited disk space
3. unlimited bandwidth
4. ftp upload
5.
6.
what else?
Randall Cipriano 11-20-2006, 11:34 PM 99% Uptime/Reliability?
Overall speed?
Flexibility/Features? - Offers a WYSIWYG or the option for user to build ground-up with code, script and database like php, java, mysql, etc.
ryancapulong 11-28-2006, 01:43 PM does eyefetch.com offers unlimited storage? :D
Yes. eyefetch I think has unlimited storage but if you are not a paying user, you can only upload up to 4 photos a day.
I have mine on eyefetch.
Jo Avila 11-28-2006, 01:45 PM I was thinking of getting myself a .Mac account for personal use. Any feedback regarding the .Mac account?
