How much content will differ from the international version of the mag to the local version?
reason for asking.. i just got the UK version (EXPENSIVE!) and had a hard time thinking if i would be waisting my money if i would be getting most of the articles on the local version (the CD included is super though)
will the local version eventually feature articles written localy?

Francis,
We should evolve to be around 60% foreign and 40% local. We will localize the Reader's Gallery, Photographer Profile, and some Reviews. Most of the feature articles will remain the same. Yes, the price is much less (P 295) compared to the UK version (P 875).
I also believe our printing is better.

Francis,
I think the local version is a lot more worth it than the UK version for the ff reasons:
1. Price. The local issue is about a third the price of the UK version.
2. Local Content. You read about photographers (featured) whom you know and may even probably know you too.
3. International Content. As Nick said, they should evolve to around 60% international content and by looking at the local version and the UK version, the articles taken out are really more related to UK things (like photographers, featured photos, tips etc.) These have been replaced with articles we can more relate to.
4. Quality. Except for the recent matte covers of the UK magazine, the local ones look better than the international one. I actually asked an officemate to tell me which mag is local and which is not, showing them a similar page side by side and my officemate chose the local one to be the international issue.
5. Get printed. You can have your photos published at a higher percentage.
6. Online Forum. Have you seen http://www.dphotographer.co.uk/ ? As of this post, the most number of topics in their forum is 6.
My UK subscription of DP ends this July. Im not renewing it in favor of the local version.
My 2 cents worthless.

good points sir randy...
i just love reading magazines.. specially since i started with photography. i currently read two.. practical photography uk and DPP uk and phils..
would the phils version feature articles (the 60 percent) from current Uk versions or from older issues of the uk version?

Francis,
If I am not mistaken, the content of the local mag is similar to the current issue UK mag.
It is just that the local mag comes out around two weeks (give or take some days) after the UK issue. So 2 weeks should not be a huge factor, as we know, even old news is new news if we do not know about it. ;)
But Nick, Nino and/or Pilar would be in the best position to answer if the current UK mag has the same content as the current local mag.

I'll answer. We are provided the latest material about two weeks before the UK publishes their magazine. We incorporate all the latest articles. But by the time we get around to compiling all the photos for the Reader's Galleries, doing some of our own product reviews, and local articles, DP Philippines runs around 25-30 days behind DP UK. I mean, we can even come out with the magazine prior to the UK version if we printed the magazine as-is page-for-page, but our readers wouldn't want that. Its the local content combined with the imported that makes this magazine appealing.

Francis,
We'll be Portraits next month with a "pinoy" twist. Feature articles are maintained, so if unless you feel like wasting your money, buying the imported version won't be necessary. Pick up our Issue 02 this week and you will see what I am talking about.
