Game 1, San Miguel Beermen VS. Barangay Ginebra. I was at Upper box B. Used my D80 with 70-300G lens. Hope you guys appreciate my shots. Saving money for 80-200 F2.8 :)

Nice shots!

I didnt know that PBA (and/or Araneta Coliseum) allows someone with DSLR to watch the game. How did you do it?

@Cezar

I guess the f/5.6 aperture @300mm was showing it's limitation as the pictures were underexposed by at least 1 stop. Have you tried adjusting the exposure in Capture NX? (assuming you shot it in RAW)

I'm also guessing you're already at ISO1600. What were the shutter speeds like? I'm surprised you were able to get some decent ones. I myself struggle taking action shots even with f/2.8 lenses :)

Thanks for sharing.

Yes, they allow people with DSLR. There were few guards checking bags but they didn't notice my camera. Cheers!

Yeah, same question here. I'm watching Game 4 this Friday from lower box. It would be fun to watch and shoot! :)

Zandy,

I used ISO 400 and there were no PP done. I'm saving money for an F2.8 lens  Anyways, thanks for the advice, might try the light adjustment in Photoshop :)

Bring your camera and zoom lens, better if you have an F2.8 lens. :D

Don't be afraid to use ISO 1600 on the D80. It's all good :)

i used the same lense 70-300mm 4.5-5.6 to shoot Smackdown last year. i was olaso watching the show that time at the big dome. it works fine naman just bring a monopod.

Nice shots though it was a little under exposed. Try adjusting the lighting at Photoshop or try Zandy's advice.

I've seen your smackdown shots and the lighting is not that good. The subjects are not so sharp and dude, this is a basketball thread. I guess you have to create a wrestling thread.

Bro,

Your shots is not bad for an amature, you just need to have the EEE. Experiment, Experience and Execute. I think you are in the right path. You may consider editing your work using CS2 next time.:)

i was actually planning to bring my slr to the big dome on one of these major sporting events, get myself a seat at either lower box or ringside (good luck, eh?), and then just fire away. di pala pwede yun?

i'm sure that they're cautious about those people using flash photography to take shots of their "idols". kung wala ka namang ginagamit na flash, baka naman di ka sisitahin.

maybe the veteran sports shooters can let us in on some of the regulations that these venues have on regular joes like us bringing cameras in?

I'm not too sure if digital SLR cameras are allowed in the big dome. Usually when we go to the UAAP games at Araneta, SLR cameras are prohibited inside, except to official photogs.

Araneta is very strict. No SLR cameras or the like. If the guards spot you with one, you'll be asked to leave the camera in your car or elsewhere. If you try to persuade them that you're "MEDIA" they will tell you that the media entrance is in the south gate.

In the south gate, you have two barriers. The first barrier would be the guards of the south gate. You need to show them your media ID. The second barrier is the registration table. You will show them your ID and they will cross-check your name against a list of allowed media/production people. If your name is on the list, the bouncer will stamp something on your hand, then they will give you a tape bracelet with your name and the signature of the registration people. Usually for finals events, only those with tape bracelets may sit at courtside.

If your name isn't on that list, you cannot enter.

Other venues are not as strict. Some entail just showing your media ID, no more questions asked. They'll just search your camera bag for possible bombs, but then again everyone does that. :-)

I was lucky to bring my camera without getting caught. I wasn't aware that DSLR's for viewers are not allowed. Maybe I should be careful next time :)

susubukan ko rin ito. :-) ... anong bag ang ginamit mo DRE?

isang tanong pa dre, anong exposure ng court doon? pantay ba ang full court, i mean ang distribution ng liwanag? natatandaan mo ba kung anong naging reading mo?

What the hell are you talking about? I noticed that you were inconsistent with your statements. Check your previous post regarding what lens you used. 150 feet is very near the court. By the way fix your face, it's very annoying
