My experience when I went to Naga last January opened my eyes and lens to the provincial life. Here's a hodge podge of color and monochrome captures of people and places in my father's hometown.

A very old house in the block of Jacob St.

Great shots, Aly. This one here's my favorite. The colors and texture are striking,
the expression is captured, and it is a well composed image.

Hi, Mario and Jerry! My dad was born 1921 and some of the books were already there before he was born. My grandparents were both teachers and they had some books and pictures dated pre-war. But we dared not touch them as they were too brittle. My dad is still strong at 86.

Our house is in Jacob st. near Sta. Isabel School, walking distance from the Cathedral.

I tried to take pictures of the old pictures so that I could restore them. Will try to post some of them in their original state.

Thank you Pia. This boy was curious as to the (relatively) big camera I was using so he kept on looking and yet hesitant to approach me. I followed him up to when he reached their (bamboo) fence and he glanced back before he entered their home.

I like the expression I captured.

The carabao was probably thinking, who the @%#!@ is taking my picture without asking my permission?

When I was taking pictures I noticed some slithering things in the trail. When I got back to the house, my cousins said there were a lot of snakes (cobras to be exact) in the field and they occassionally cross the trail. Mabuti na lang ang concentration ko yung sa kalabaw! Whew!

Priceless collection.

The collection is Priceless indeed but its the memories thats more treasured than the books. The painting in the top middle part of the picture is an image of my uncle who perished in the fall of Bataan. He comandeered a platoon that made the last stand in the Pilar-Bagac area before they were killed by the Japanese. Below is an artist's interpretation of how he was killed based on a lone survivor's story.

Thanks, Andrew! I think this was taken at a Men's Club way back then. Some sort of a YMCA.

Maraming Salamat, Rael! I don't speak bicolano but I guess you were talking about my pictures. During Typhoon Reming, according to my cousin, a portion of our roof in our house in Jacob st. flew and the chicken coop got destroyed as well. Quite catastrophic for Naga City.

WOW! WOWOWWW! I would do anything to be able to go back to that time in our history with my D200 and 10,000 CF cards! I can stare at this pic all day. Hmmm I wonder what it feels like to wear 'em white shoes and have my hair slick back like that. :)
