Mon Corpuz 07-05-2006, 11:31 AM I assume that in this country, photographers who's in to this particular interest are as rare as the birds they shoot.
Nice birds! What's a good glass you can recommend for beginners Chief? Must-have gears, alternatives?
Thanks.
levi lacandula 07-05-2006, 11:53 AM nice series! im really amazed how you guys do it.

Mon, any DSLR with a telephoto, plus tons of patience will make a good start. Even a 200 mm will be useable if you have a 1.4x teleconverter..... 400 mm is better, and 500-700 mm will be serious birding gear.

rosalie_gomez 07-05-2006, 04:07 PM @Romy
I will try, even if just in the park. Last time I tried, nothing decent came out. I'd be interested too if you decide to give lessons. Your photos are really inspiring.... :)
Romy Ocon 07-05-2006, 05:54 PM Yes, Tina, TJ and Rosalie, I hope we can set up an informal bird photography briefing one of these days. I did one for the Wild Bird Club of the Phils. some time back.
There are at least two major disciplines involved in wild bird photography - birding skills and photography skills.
Birding skills are very important - we have to be familiar with the habits and habitat of our subjects so we can find and approach them, preferably in good light.
Photo skills of course should be highly developed too. Handling a long lens under field conditions, while we are trying to control our excitement, is not very easy. Good birding skills can lead us to our subject, but we need to execute the capture well to bring home the trophy.
In my book, wild bird photography is one of the more challenging and fun areas of imaging. I don't only relish the preparation, travel, trekking, search and capture... processing the keepers and sharing these are equally very fulfilling...:)
