Me and several of my buddies in Valencia CA have seriously looked into this new equipment. We are seriously considering bringing it into Manila, and hoping to tap the DIY movie production outfits.

Red is closed for reservations and they are not entertaining any more reservations or distribution at the moment. I will keep you informed on it when my partner gets Jim Jannard (CEO)'s attention. They are busy trying to meet the deadline of putting this thing in production and ready early this year.

This is NOT a solicitation. Just wanted to share information.

I'm trying to find a link that actually inspired the owners of RED One to develop this product. It's an entire movie clip shot with the Canon 1D camera. I've heard, without confirmation that the owners have had significant "inspiration" from Canon's technology. OEM of their lenses are unknown at the moment. I wonder who they're working with, Zeiss, Canon, Nikon?

JP, Really WOW! My friend who met Jim said this will revolutionize videography. Watch the You tube link I sent. That was taken by this cam. The quality output matches the best high grade video cameras in the market.

This opens up a whole new level of quality if you are a photgrapher and videographer. :)

Derick, that has got to be the wet dream of every videographer! How long do you think until the tech filters down to us photographers?

It's readily available, but their back log is huge. Filter down? It's similar technology just like our DSLR. It's like a DSLR that does 11.4 megapixel at 60fps!! Typical high-end HD camcorders have 2.1M pixel sensors and record with 3:1:1 color subsampled video at up to 30fps. Plus of course more bells and whistle for video applications! String thee images together,,,, then you have a movie!

Ah,ok. Let me rephrase. When will they make a digital still camera for consumers using the mysterium CMOS sensor?:)

YUP, owner (RED one and Oakley) Jim Jannard is a Canon evangelist. I foresee an "inflection point" for photography and video. This look like a strong building block. Sign of things to come.

i know jannard wallows in $$$$$$$$$$$$$ but can he really duke it out there with the big guys (canon, sony, jvc) ? are there real working cameras in existence now or just examples from oakley's prototyping facilites. this real good news. i hope it's not like the "world conquering FOVEON sensor" that rattled even bill gates's cage.

They had prototypes running here. http://www.red.com/gallery-video.shtml ; I do not think Jim's out to slug it out with any of the big boys. I am assuming he's positioning his gear technology as the middle ground for the convergence of photo and video. It's like telecommunications and data systems, it will be inevitable.
