The iPhone has been getting a lot of attention specially with Hipstamatic (app). Here's the Android OS counterpart - Vignette. A few Vignette shots has been posted on the Samsung Galaxy S thread but since Vignette can be used for any Android camera phone, I decided to start a dedicated images and Review thread.
For the review, Vignette is in my opinion, a lot of points better than Hipstamatic. Affordability is one of the major factors. With Hipsta, additional lenses, camera versions or filters are add-on purchases. While with the full or demo version of Vignette gives you everything and more already. The only difference with the demo and full version is that the demo version only gives you max of 640x480 pixels of resolution while the full version gives you 8mps max depending on your phone hardware.
The UI is fun and easy. The presets gets you started immediately with included faves such as diana, holga, toy camera presets and so on. Furthermore you can tweak combinations of effects and save them on your 'favourites' list. You can add in light leaks, extra light leaks, extra vignettes, film grains, film frames or borders, cross processing effects, vintage effects and so on.
One of the bonuses with this app is the ability to import a photo from your phone gallery and apply on it any of the effects Vignette has to offer.
If shooting 1 photo is fun with Vignette, it's worth trying out the other modes such as double exposures, grid (photobooth) and strip (emulates the popular supersampler) modes for four times the fun. Plus with constant software updates, free or paid users will not be left behind with additional effects that comes in.
Vignette sure made us re-evaluate the use of our camera phone. Now, I really only need to carry my dslr gear for work. Vignette churns out fun snaps that friends want the photos better than the ones shot cleanly with a dslr.
For those who didn't want to bother reading the above, here are photos :)
