The other day, I was invited by a friend to shoot one of his hockey games. Being a n00bie and all, I searched the boards for any tips on shooting hockey. Lucky, I found this thread (http://www.digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=3732&highlight=hockey)

The white ice indeed made the WB go crazy. I followed what the article said but did not do the custom WB. I guess I was lazy =)

I did not pay much attention to the game being busy on shooting. In fact, I don't know who won =) Also, I was having an error 99 on my lens (borrowed from a good friend) whenever I go wide on it. All shots are on full telephoto.

All of the shots was taken with a Sigma lens 70-200 on a Canon 400D.
All of them are on Aperture priority, shot in jpeg.
All F/5.8 with a ISO 800 (to compensate for speed)
All on Auto WB.
All of them are PP'd for sharpness and Noise Ninja was used for the noise.

This is my first shoot on hockey.... actually, the first hockey game I've attended in person. And here are some shots.

... and of course, C&C's are very much welcome =)

Nice set bro... As always with ice/snow, +EV is required otherwise the ice and whites will turn grey...

No fights involved???

Thanks guys :)

There was a slight "fight" that happened but it was on the other side of the ice. My lens was not capable enough. Not much of a hockey if there's no "fights" eh :)

The regular banging on the sides were present as well but it's hard to shoot against plexiglass and I was not fast enough, I guess.

I'll keep in mind your exposure tip dre :)

Just to add more substance on this thread, the last image (collage) was made using a Photoshop action, 25 Matrix.

Ah yes, shooting behind a plexi is an issue, hehe... When I was still in college in the northeast, our hockey ring was outdoors and the plexi is quite low so not really that difficult to use flash or shoot through...

Where is this BTW? stil a nice set :D

might i suggest a little bit more WB control. i've never actually covered hockey but in the sports i've shot, i've found that setting to auto WB screws up the photo occasionally. also, can you give us an idea as to the shutterspeed that you evenutally pulled off? you mentioned you were using iso 800 so i figure the lighting was pretty good. thanks!

Yup, it's hard on plexi. My plexi shots are bluish :)
It was in HOSA sports complex here in Beijing. Don't really know the place. I told my friend to write the address so I can just show it to the cab driver. My chinese is pu hao (not good)

Thanks again man =)

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll tinker with my WB the next time the oppurtunity arises.
The shutter speed varies from 60-200 on every shot. I was on aperture priority.

Here's a blurred shot that I kind of like.
