I have a Canon 350 D camera. My printer is a Canon pixma iP4200. I am now in the market looking for a Canon Scanner.

Could somebody please suggest what model/type I should buy?
thank you in advance.

Flatbed or Film?

Oh, I'll just be scanning numerous old photographs mainly and some slides, too.

Not sure about the lower end Canon scanners. I use the 9950F and am extremenly happy with it.

Don't you need that 2nd lamp for film and slide scanning?

i have a canon 4200F - i'm happy with the scans on photos & docs, very easy to use and install. Slide scanning is ok, not that great. Had a problem after maybe 3-4 months of use, but canon warranty took care of that (got a new replacement) - no hassles except for the 3-4 week wait.
good luck!

I'll check out these two scanners. The scanner I'd like to buy is mainly for home use - to digitize old photos in our family albums as well as hundreds of my lecture slides from a forgotten generation.:)

Oh, lecture slides... not film negative/positive slides.

I think that Lino is referring to 35mm silde images that he used to use for his lectures :D

@ Lino

IMO, the scan quality doesn't have to be of photo quality if you will just be using the scanned images for a lecture presenation. But of course, good quality images really help in making a lecture presentation look good :D

You're right , Jo. These lecture slides are the ones I have used from the good old days.:) I just wanted them resurrected as some of them had been infested with fungi. And rightly so that good quality images is a major plus factor in lecture presentations.
