View Full Version : Adobe Camera Raw Helpdesk
Marco_Ingco 01-23-2007, 04:39 AM Nag-install ka ba ng other software after you installed Photoshop? Did you install for example, Nikon Capture? These softwares install another raw converter software in the plugins directory (I think) that overrides Photoshop's ACR. You have to delete that plugin and ACR will work fine again.
You can right-click the image from bridge and the choose Open In Camera Raw too.
Earl Gonzalez 01-23-2007, 08:04 AM @ Jerrel - Marco, has a point... warez or OEM... If you install another RAW converter/application... Like Nikon Capture etc. Chances are, that this program bypasses ACR even if you open the file directly within PS. Another thing to remember though is to also manually check your current installed ACR version, by drilling through the folder tree of your PS' only plugins... This is to ensure that you have the latest build. HTH :)
Jerrell Tolentino 01-23-2007, 09:06 AM nag install po ako ng canon dpp, raw image task etc. bka nga po na overwrite. salamat po sa payo kuya marco at kuya earl.. u reall are my heroes
jay jallorina 01-23-2007, 09:14 AM as i PMed you....are you sure you are opening RAW files? you wont get to ACR if you are opening JPEG images.
Gerardo Sabado 01-24-2007, 12:55 AM I don't know if this will help. Please check if your camera raw.8bi file is present in program files/common files/adobe/plug-ins/CS2/File formats. Transfer any other file formats (other than the camera raw.8bi) to other folders.
Earl Gonzalez 01-25-2007, 06:09 AM mmmmmmmmmmm... strange... What do you mean when you say it's not working? What Error message do you get? Do you see anything inside PS? No reaction ba yung program? Details please... :)

Actually Sir Earl no error. Ang strange thing lang po is once I go to Bridge and go to the menu>file i see the open with camera raw pero naka disable siya di pwedeng maclick. Pero once I transfer my pics ko from my Canon EOS 400D to my PC jpeg ung output di sya .CRW. Meron po bang way para ma convert ko ung mga jpeg na un from .crw? para ma read sya ng ACR? Another question is what's the difference between CRW and CR2? Kasi sabi po ni Sir Aly Reyes, CR2 not CRW sa Canon EOS 400D.

"It has nothing to do with the Manufacture or Camera Brand.
The reason you can't open the Raw file is because Adobe CS2 came out "BEFORE" all of the new Canon Raw files were created (in other words, the extension .CR2) and every now and then Adobe has to "UPDATE" Adobe Bridge to accomidate these new cameras that are constantly coming out. The same thing will happen when or if Canon comes out with a rumored "40D" or the "Mark III" and the same will apply with Nikon or any new brand of camera. These applications just can't "MAGICALLY" read and undstand something that was never available, therefore you have to constantly upgrade your software for these compatability issues as well as other features such as bugs, speed issues, or whatever Adobe feels will help the application.
So, to the OP.....don't be frustrated with Digital, you'll just have to understand how computers, software, and all of the electronic technologies affect you."

Aly_Reyes 01-25-2007, 05:04 PM Jerrel, Didn't your 400D come with its own Utility application software in two CD's (actually, isa lang dahil electronic manual lang yung isa). Canon has its own RAW file utility application that reads your CR2 files and converts it to either JPEG or TIFF. If not, just go to your Canon Camera dealer and ask for one. Just tell me where to send it.

@ Sir Rudy
Thanks for your help sir rudy.. now I know why ACR doesn't work because .cr2 is the new extension format of canon cameras. so i have to accept the fact na di ko magagamit ACR right now. Lahat nagawa ko na po.. update my adobe, download the latest ACR, install DPP of canon, remove other ps plug-ins. But in the end no use. Sir rudy can you post the link on that thread regarding Canon 400D problem running ACR.
@ Sir Jay, Aly, Earl, Marco and Gerardo thank you again for all the infos you gave me.
rudytolentino 01-26-2007, 05:24 AM Jerrell, here is the link,

that's why you can't open your file with camera raw kasi naka jpeg ka pala. i don't think there is a away to convert them to raw. the only solution is to shoot in raw.
johnmartinvillanueva 01-30-2007, 02:52 PM I have the same problem with my RAW shots. I also have another program , Nikon picture project which can read raw files. Is this the cause of the problem. The error reads "cannot complete request since its not the right kind of document". I hope you could shed light on this.

John, (considering you're using CS2) since you installed Nikon Picture Project... It has overriden ACR... One thing you can do is to completely uninstall Picture Project or drill down the plugins directory of your PS and remove Nikon's plugin there by deleting it or transferring it to another external location or drive which it's paths would be clearly untraceable by Nikon's application. :) HTH

regie_de_rueda 01-31-2007, 03:11 AM ??!
Marco. Did I offend you or something? I don't think it's DPP's policy to encourage WAREZ use of it's members either.
Marco_Ingco 01-31-2007, 05:23 AM @Regie
Nope you did not offend me. But you might have offended others.
Please tell me, have you, in your entire life, never used a software that you copied from anyone, never copied a movie from anyone, never copied an mp3 file from anyone, never photocopied a book? All of these constitute piracy in one way or the other. If you've never done any of these then ok, it's fair for you to reprimand or criticize others. But if you have, even once, then you have no right.
Yes, DPP has no policy that encourages the use of warez, but it also has no policy that rebukes you if you do.
Peace!
regie_de_rueda 01-31-2007, 05:55 AM Marco, bro, I'm all legit.
My point is, if you have to use warez, keep it to yourself. Be discreet....

jay jallorina 01-31-2007, 09:56 AM jerrell,
my goodness bro. so i was correct....you cannot open your "RAW" files in ACR because you shot in JPEG pala. hahaha...well at least now you know :) shoot in RAW so you'll get RAW (.cr2) captures, which shouldnt be a problem anymore in ACR.
goodluck!
