I had one for a very very short time before. I find the IQ to be amazing and the focal lens to be good but I do find it a bit slow lang po at hard to use at low light levels , maybe I didn't give it enough time. Wala na ata makita sa market yan, Iwas lookinf for one recently ( cheap sana ) :)

Was asked to some portraits and event shots for our church last December. I wanted the R1 for a cleaner shot bec all I have is the Canon S3is and we have a tricky light situation in church. Fortuntely for me the S3is passed the test with flying colors :)

It's a very very good camera. Problema lang is that it was also too expensive at the time na pumasok ang mga low cost DSLR from Canon and Pentax. So people naturally bought the Rebels, etc... Pero it's really one of the best fixed lens SLR type P&S. Wla nga lang video like it's competition.

And also, I still own and use its predecessor, the F828 as backup. And I'm not letting go of mine too. :D

Daniel, I think the R1 is not best for indoor events , because it focuses slowly in low light, But for landscapes, there is no issue with AF speed.

I tried it on an event once, I wished that I brought my xt, masyadong bitin and AF speed nya. mabagal talaga kng nasa indoors.

Daniel,

There is a sony R1 for sale in Sony square here in cagayan de oro city, 54,999- with gift checks and 24mo 0% payment. I dont know how many units left, But I'm sure you could still find one in a photo store or a sony square near you.

thanks for the heads up, I am thinking if its wise to invest that money in a fixed lens camera or go for a dslr. Now if dslr is the decision the question is should I go with a 400D or a D80 ?:(

I have a 350d before I bought the R1, The reason why I bought the R1 is that the canon 16-35 2.8 or the 17-40 4L are expensive, bought are short and both have no IS. So I thought the R1 Is a good alternative for landscape use and it is.

My primary lens for my 350d now is the 70-300 ISU, when combined with my R1 , I have a 20x zoom range and I dont have to chance lens when I'm in a shooting trip.

But I'm still in a proccess of deciding what normal zoom to buy for my 350d, cause I need a fast focusing normal zoom range.

If you shoot mostly outdoors and you think you can't buy a better lens than the kit one, buy the R1.

I have an R1 and only a few people in Cebu are using it. So far no regrets but I will agree that it's best for outdoors and not much on low lit areas. I'm looking for it's accessories since some forums claim that there are some alpha accessories that are compatible to the R1

Just got an R1 yesterday, and was thinking of disposing the F828. Fired it up along with my F32X and it seems favorable naman for indoor shooting.
