Hello all,

I'm currently looking for a good complementary lens to my 10-22. Most likely both will serve as my travel kit along with my 300D. Unfortunately I'm on a budget so I'm looking at the bang for the buck segment (can't afford a 24-105L or 24-70L as much as I would love one). I've read several good reviews of the Canon 28-105 f3.5-4.5 USM and 24-85 f3.5-4.5 USM and they're looking like prime candidates right now. Just wondering if anyone out there has any experience with these two lenses. Additional suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Paolo, this is exactly my travel kit. If i need to have a fast lens i bring the 50/85mm f/1.8 instead of the zoom. the 28-105 f/3.5 is light and gives good contrast & color

if you want a fast lens you can get the tamron 28-75 2.8. If youre not too particular about the aperture then id suggest a 28-135 Canon.

The walkaround lens by third parties (ive used tamron 18-200) are very decent and could actually be a nice lens to use specially if you find yourself at a very bad place to change lenses (like the beach).

@ Bong

Thanks for the input. I was considering the 28-105 since I have 2 58mm filters (UV and CPL) carried over from an old 28-90 kit lens to my retired Canon film slr. Plus its the cheaper of the two if I'm not mistaken:).

@ Chris

I've read a lot of great feedback on the Tamron you suggested. I'm just a bit uneasy on the after-sales support since I don't think we have an official distributor like Sigma does with JTPhoto. Actually, if the 6-year warranty Tamron advertises on its USA site applied here, I'd probably go for that one.

The 18-200 option you brought up does sound viable. I was at the beach earlier this month and found myself returning to the resort each time I wanted to change from my 10-22 to my 50mm for fear of getting the sensor dirty. Not exactly a fun thing to do. How much was the Tamron 18-200 you mentioned? I believe the Sigma version is about 19K.

its 22.5k brand new and although i havent used the sigma, i believe the tamron maybe a bit better.
