he has got a 17-55 probably a 30d. well, it looks logical as you already have the 10-22....but where do you use your gear most of the time?

hold on to it if you're to ask me. you'll miss it if you go for the 24-70 L. 24-70's the perfect lens on a full-framed cam but it's quite limiting on a cropped sensor due to it's lack of wideness. for me mas madaling lumapit kaysa lumayo. the only advantage of the 24-70 to me is its build and its compatibity with eos cameras. image quality wise, they're both at par in my opinion. i'd go for the 17-55 if i didn't have plans of going full-frame. :)

Given you have a 10-22 it's not a bad idea to swap the 17-55 with the 24-70 (or even a 24-105 F4).

From experience, this is my opinion...

Just bear in mind that what you get for the increased range is that you will be swapping lenses more often because the 10-22 is just too specialized for wide angles and the 24-70 is also best for portraiture.

Here's the scenario that I have in mind that will best demonstrate it...

If you are shooting a birthday party, it will be prudent to get a close up of the celebrant blowing the candles (24-70) and in the same situation want the kids around the cake in a picture with the celebrant while singing happy birthday (10-22).

Just the motion of changing glass will slow you down and you will miss either the group shot or the close-up. I would probably stick with the 24-70, but that means you just lost out on the beauty of wide angle images.

For weddings, the spacing between tables at the reception make it a great idea to have a 10-22, but again if one of the guests was letsay an important subject, you just have no time to swap over to the 24-70 because the guests don't wait. A 10-22 is unflattering for portraits due to distortion (big noses).

That's what frustrates me using the trinity. Sure it's excellent optics, it's just that the transitions between wide~normal~tele sucks on a crop sensor unlike in full frame where a 24mm on the wide end is actually quite usable and there are people who don't need to buy an ultrawide anymore.

To summarize, I wouldn't go with this combo if you shoot a lot of high pressure situations where you cannot reshoot. But for shooting where there's no pressure, there's no better combo.

If I do it though, I will probably keep a 18-55 kit lens handy because this range is still the best all-rounder for general photography.

Or get a 2nd body if you are working professionally.

Good Luck.
