Reyno Rosete 12-15-2006, 02:36 AM Here's a couple of links about the lens. http://www.pbase.com/cameras/tamron/sp_af_17-50_28 http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/lenses/tamron_1750_28/index.htm Aris Guerrero 12-15-2006, 06:13 AM you can buy it in henry's at hidalgo for sample pics - i think chewy chua would be your guy. check out his flickr. Carlo Cecilio 12-15-2006, 07:46 AM thanks guys! czar_lopez 12-20-2006, 08:32 PM nice choice of lens. The lens recently grabbed an EISA award for European Consumer Lens of the Year. Just recently got this lens for a bargain price of $330... here are some samples http://i5.pbase.com/o6/29/643429/1/72667554.LmxGDNa8.BahrainAreenWildlife_101.jpg (http://www.pbase.com/josedeluna/areen_wildlife&page=3) http://i5.pbase.com/o6/29/643429/1/72667547.HL2zvWkv.BahrainAreenWildlife_095.jpg (http://www.pbase.com/josedeluna/areen_wildlife&page=4) http://i5.pbase.com/o6/29/643429/1/72667548.q1GGtfgt.BahrainAreenWildlife_096.jpg (http://www.pbase.com/josedeluna/areen_wildlife&page=4) http://i5.pbase.com/o6/29/643429/1/72668356.dUBPpPMW.BahrainForts_013.jpg (http://www.pbase.com/josedeluna/bahrain_forts&page=4) BTW, I've used the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 SP Canon mount on a 400D Body. Cheers! orlando_arcelao_jr 01-09-2007, 07:11 PM Olala! Congrats on the purchase KaPepe! :) ernmitanyo 02-08-2007, 04:24 PM hi if anyone uses this lens can you guys post some of your shots. thanks! I'm using this lens which I bought here in Saudi Arabia for SR1400 (1SR=13pesos) and I am very much satisified with the lens. However, take note that it's focusing sound is not as quiet as the Canon USM but it didn't bother me at all. I have posted some pics taken by this lens in the "Desert Foxes Romacing the Arabian Horses" thread. Simply visit that thread and you can tell for yourself the sharpness of this lens. alistaire_ong 02-08-2007, 04:29 PM this is a great 3rd party lens (probably the best in its class). although mine is already damaged but still taking great shots.. :) you can check out my galleries for some samples..:) Angelo Bryant 02-19-2007, 02:20 PM I've read in one of the reviews cited above that this lens have a curved focus plane. Will this pose a problem when doing large group shots? David Tong 02-22-2007, 04:10 PM Is this EF mount compatible? Angelo: Usually it affects architecture and linear macro shots more than human/landscape photos IMO... Almost all lenses distorts somewhat at wide angles. Rogelio Nocom Jr. 02-22-2007, 04:43 PM AFAIK, its not EF mount compatible. Is this EF mount compatible? Angelo: Usually it affects architecture and linear macro shots more than human/landscape photos IMO... Almost all lenses distorts somewhat at wide angles. janandrewli 04-21-2010, 12:38 AM hi i bought my tamron last week i have this problem when im focusing to a subject im at about an arms length away from my subject and it wont focus.. sometimes it focuses on the background and sometimes the focus ring just turn from end to end and everything is out of focus? is my lens defective? sometimes what i do is i focus on a subject and just recompose my shots.. fyi the room is well lit WilsonCo 04-21-2010, 12:45 AM Try setting your autofocus to single point mode and try again. It would also help if your subject contrasts the background. If it still won't focus well, you're lens might be defective. janandrewli 04-21-2010, 12:55 AM Try setting your autofocus to single point mode and try again. It would also help if your subject contrasts the background. If it still won't focus well, you're lens might be defective. theres seems to be an improvement.. whats the wrong if i set my camera on a al servo mode? why wont it focus? David Tong 04-21-2010, 01:10 AM I believe you're trying to focus too closely. Read the specs for the lens' minimum focusing distance. It will NOT focus on anything closer than that. Also, you have to focus on areas with contrast, you can't expect any lens/camera to be able to focus on a blank area (cloudless sky, plain white wall with no texture, a piece of white paper, etc.) as cameras require areas of contrast to lock focus. janandrewli 04-21-2010, 09:25 AM yes sir david im aware of that the min. focus distance is 10 inches.. =) thank u guys for answering! WilsonCo 04-22-2010, 12:13 AM theres seems to be an improvement.. whats the wrong if i set my camera on a al servo mode? why wont it focus? :Grin:Because the camera is second guessing which subject you want to focus on. It's not the AF mode (AF-A/AF-S/AF-C for Nikon) you should be changing settings on but the AF-area mode. Change it to single-point so you can manually designate which focus point you want the camera to focus on. Jay Jay SyCip 10-02-2010, 01:06 AM Tried searching but didn't get what i was looking for. Hello everyone. Here's the thing, i've been using a 450D for 2 years now using my reliable kit lens. I am just a hobbyist but i dabble into food photography once in a while since it's in my field of work. I've been searching for the 1st lens i'm going to buy but i find it difficult since... i like to travel so i would want an all-around lens. i like taking pictures of scenic views and would want something good for landscape and wide enough for it. i like food and food is part of my work and i would sometimes end up taking pictures at night or even indoors with low light sitautions. i like to take pictures during family gatherings and most of the time indoors. So, here's the thing...a friend offered me 2 of his lenses Tamron 17-50 f2.8 Di II XR LD Aspherical IF and a Canon 17-85 f4-5.6. The latter doesn't really interest me since i feel like i'm being shorthanded it being an f4-5.6 coming from a kitlens with 3.5-5.6 that's why i set my eyes on the Tamron. But here's where it gets interesting, i know nothing about this brand. I've tried to learn and study about it and it's a 50/50. But the catch is my friend is giving it away for 8k it's like new. What do you guys think, should i get this or should i just get the nifty 50 at half the price??? Thanks!!! deanmejos 10-02-2010, 01:11 AM a tamron 17-50 @ 8k is a steal given that a used one goes for around twice or more of what your friend is offering. since you said that it's in "like new" condition, i think it's a really good deal... maybe because it's your friend that's selling it to you but test it out as well to make sure that it is in fact as good as it looks. given what you want to shoot, and the deal that your friend is offering, i guess you should go for the tamron. at least you have more versatility and the tamron 17-50 is regarded as a really good lens for the price even able to come close to the performance of the Canon EF-S 17-55. Jay Jay SyCip 10-02-2010, 01:17 AM Just to be clear this doesn't have the VC. Also, i'm not an expert but it's kind of soft at 17mm and again when it's 50mm. romzLopez 10-03-2010, 12:12 PM try reading some reviews Jay. The non VC is sharper than the one with VC. can your friend sell it to me for the 8K price if you won't be buying it? Jon agner 10-03-2010, 02:21 PM I've been using the tamron 17-50 2.8 for most of my shoots and getting one for 8K is indeed worth it. Yes, it's soft if you use the lens at it's wide aperture but it gets sharp at f/4 :) Jay Jay SyCip 10-04-2010, 01:05 AM i noticed some discoloration on the sides...nabasa ko sa isang review i think it's what you call fringing ba yun? how would i address this if the cause of the Fringing is the lens itself? Is it because of the lens itself or is it a mechanical problem? Jon agner 10-04-2010, 10:54 AM @ Jay jay I'll post a few shots from my non-VC Tamron, and from my nifty fifty, when I get home tonight. From there, you can decide which route to go to. Cheers. Jay Jay SyCip 10-05-2010, 02:12 PM Guys these are the sample pics. I found it sharp and better than any nikon kit lens. I decided to buy this lens rather than the 35mm DX because of the versatile of the focal length aside for having an aperture of 2.8. I will post some sample photos after some time _______ Ooops only now i noticed that this thread is for canon mount ken reston 01-03-2011, 03:24 PM bro, i may have limited experience with photography as a whole. though i have handled canon's 17-55 2.8, 24-70 L, 70-200 2.8L, and I can say that the tamron can hold it's own in terms of image quality. I guess the only concern is focus speed during lowlight and focus noise, although you can get used to it. ;) here's a shot taken with a tamron 17-50 non-VC in tandem with canon 7d http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1426/5227921397_06224eb2aa.jpg exif iso 100 focal length 50mm aperture f/2.8 shutter speed 1/640 raw to jpeg thru LR3 jiggyvillamin 01-04-2011, 02:00 AM hi! im kinda new here, just recently decided to upgrade my 18-55 kitlens just got my copy of this excellent lens today. 18k non-VC vs. 22.5k for the one with VC? I have tried both and the 4.5k difference doesnt really justify the VC for me; plus, after testing 3 copies of each, ive now confirmed that the non-VC is just a tad sharper than the VC one. :) (ive been using a 450d for the past 2 years now, and havent given thought of replacing it anytime soon so i can make do without VC haha.) results are tack sharp. ill try to post some photos soon. albeit not a nikkor or a canon L lens, for its price, i wouldnt ask for anything more. (okay, maybe added FTM focusing? haha) lawrencenajarro 03-30-2011, 10:32 PM Hi guys! I'm planning to purchase Tamron 17-50mm non VC for my canon 60D. But I came upon this article http://www.canonrumors.com/2011/02/canon-officially-acknowledges-lensid-issue. Anyone of you have any idea about this? ken reston 03-30-2011, 10:55 PM hi lawrence, i use a 7d and a tamron 17-50 non-vc. i don't have any focusing problems. if you look at your link correctly its the VC that is affected. lawrencenajarro 03-31-2011, 03:53 AM hi lawrence, i use a 7d and a tamron 17-50 non-vc. i don't have any focusing problems. if you look at your link correctly its the VC that is affected. thanks ken...so the non vc is safe.
