Would be good to connect with people who have this one heck of a photographic tool in their hands! :-)

The Canon crowd here doesn't seem to bother in individual camera clubs... Which I think is a good thing...

Not entirely... just as I am a member of the Nissan Patrol club and yes we only talk about Nissan Patrol in a way, but oh boy there is so much I do not know about what the beast can do until I met other owners. This sharing helped me survive Ondoy last year, being aware that the beast can very safely cross floods even if it is half-way submerged :-) It's more about learning the techniques, considering the 7D is not a simple camera.

A car would be quite different with all the removable and customizable parts.

You're welcome to start a 7D club if you wish though.

However, from a camera user's POV, most cameras, particularly from the same company, functions similarly. The 1D series would be quite a huge step but frankly, most folks who purchase the 1D should know why they need the 1D's feature-set.

The 7D may be high-tech, but internally, if you know how to work any other Canon DSLR, you'll know how to use 90% of its features as well.

If other clubs are any indication, forming a model-specific thread/club kinda takes away the purpose of the main site. Most 'club members' post generic questions that applies to all other cameras and other users never see the solution provided as it's confined to 'their' thread.

i should have said "clubs exclusive for one particular camera model"
i think a nikon club or a canon club would suffice really

wait till Team Nikon Bullies sees your post :Scared:

Seriously though… people are more comfortable when they are with peers (same age, education, income, etc) which somehow turns the "camera model" into a social gauge, forming some sort of (self imposed) social class segregation. Not really dumb IMhO, just human nature.

 this is a cool way to put it, though we do evolve to our chosen social classes by virtue of our personal progress, or lack of it.

If there are at least five 7D owners who will agree to have a gathering, I will gladly host the first round of coffee :-) At the very least I can lend my Magic Lantern guide to you guys, it is very helpful!

Good day to everyone,

As for me, the benefits of having a club for one type of equipment is having the same equipment to be compared to when you do have a problem with your equipment. By having the "same" equipment you can also ask about how accessories work with your equipment. Try asking a D60 user why your swivel screen on your D5000 is having a problem.

Though your argument is valid as the general photography discussion can be covered regardless of make, some camera specific problems you might have can only be answered by someone with the same set up of gears as yours. Having a club "exclusive" for one type of equipment excels in this.

There's a Post your 7D shots here (http://digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=28461) thread where you can share your shots, and even ask queries.

There's also a Canon EOS 7D (http://digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=27270&page=23) thread where they discuss the camera.

But as Mr. Super Moderator said:

You're welcome to start a 7D club if you wish though.

I'm just wondering why there aren't any Canon camera-specific clubs here. Are there more problems with the other brands? Peace.

I saw you quoting "What will happen to the name of our group if we change gears, or change brands?" I'll answer you... it will still be called TEAM D3k :). Its not about the gears we use, its about the friendship and camaraderie we already formed.

BTT:
To the TS, it would be good if you have the Canon 7D group here in DPP. The camera will be binding you all together. So for us here in DPP, cheers to the upcoming group of Canon 7D users!

Pero if you want to join an existing group, I think Canon has, and its called CLUB EOS

yeah that.. so why name a club with specific model camera right?
its not about the gear . its about what you build in the group

if say someone has a different camera but wants to join. theyd have 2nd thoughts first..

a bit silly to join a d3k group when you have a d60 a d5k or whatever ^_^

Hahaha... Actually, we entertain/accept different cameras though they are not part of the official members. We consider them honorary/adopted members :)

Apology accepted :D

Moving on...

Camera specific clubs allow for interesting group dynamics. Various experience levels, style of photography and yet everyone can still talk feature per feature of the same thing.

So I disagree with David, about the car comparison and what not. Sometimes its great to have a group/thread/forum where you all have the same gear whether it's guns, cars, Operating System, etc. It just makes it easier to discover new features, or fix issues. ..But that's just me.

well what if the thread starter for some reason had been out of this forum, or his account been deleted for some valid reasons, then it would be very difficult to find the previous post which could have been very informative. I believe IMHO that havin a group managing a thread would be very helpful so as to preserve not only the club/group etc. This happened already in this forum, im not that sure but i think it was a D60 users thread which i think disappeared for some reason wherein contributors were not informed and was just contented in a new thread started (this was before the D60 krew emerged) wherein posters had to start another thread. Correct me if im wrong but some of the post there were very informative in my opinion and havin a moderator in a group before the moderators in this forum would help a lot so as the thread as well.

I saw you quoting "What will happen to the name of our group if we change gears, or change brands?" +1 on this, very well said sir!:)... and wont it be a legacy seeing the name of your group still exist 20 years from now.

To the TS, sorry of the OT hope you find your group soon and share your thoughts with them....:)

difficult yes. but one would still be able to find it
its just a matter of knowing where to look

account being deleted?
well you said its a valid reason.. i dont think any of us (except for the people in the position of power) can do anything about that

hi don ,

i might agree with you in some point..

a friend told me lastyear before we decided to put up D5klub , that its better not to name the group on a specific gear. What if someone might upgrade with different camera, are they still welcome to the club?

back then only few DPP members were using D5000.. few people to ask and its way too advance for me to learn the features compared with my old D40.

all Im saying is that "club" will always suffice your inquiries on specific gear you have , what they might have experienced , solutions , how to's features.

And common goal; to welcome same gear users for hobbyist like us.
Interaction,learning and to have fun.
Some of us already upgraded to a different equipment yet they still hang out as part of the group which were the bonding comes in.

I dont think its a "dumb thing". take a look around everybody is having fun with their group.
Especially merging with different clubs for a fun walk.

nothing personal friend, please grab some beers!.. gudpm

lets have this thread back to the TS.:)

I'm interested though I really don't have the time. I have a 2 year old daughter that I try to spend most of my free time with. Though I do miss interacting with fellow photographers in a non-formal kind of way. I'll just monitor the developments here and may one day show up when things get rolling. :)

It makes sense really... a support group for a specific gear make. There are lots of pros when you think about it, sure sure one needs to read the manual and all that sure sure, but really... it does help to be backed by someone else who owns the same equipment that you tote. Plus there's also a sense of belonging. iMHO. :D

To the TS, my apologies... if I owned a 7D, I'd also be on the lookout for a 7D owners club... go start one! Woot!

Likely venue of the first informal gathering is somewhere in Greenhills, Tiendesitas or the Fort.

So I have three so far:

1. Josh Cruz
2. Leo Tiukeng
3. Angelo Mendez (as his schedule becomes more permissive)
