Is this printer available in the Philippines? (it's a bit of a monster to get in your hand carry luggage :Grin: )
If so, whats the retail price and where can sample prints be viewed?

The reason I ask is that the new Epson 3850 is 95k in the Philippines ($1295 in the US, $1495 for the Pro version) and the Canon can be purchased for $2200 (US) in Singapore. I feel that the Epson 3850 is way over priced in the local market.

Mike,

The Canon iPF5000 was on display at last year's WPPP Photo Congress. PM Jill Santiago or Anne Francisco for the info that you need.

Jo,

After 20 minutes on hold with Canon I was eventually put through to the correct person. This is after 3 attempts and being told by 5 people that no such printer existed!! Bloody terrible service!

P185,000 for the printer! I laughed at the guy!! You must be joking, no sir that the price but I'll give you a free digital camera!!

The US price is $1995 plus $295 for the roll paper holder (list price, you will get it cheaper if you shop arround).

Why are Canon and Epson charging so much in the Philippines??

Is there anybody here from Canon or Epson that can answer this?

In Singapore I was offered the iPF5000 for (US) $2200 at Cathay Photo and as I believe it Canon Philippines is part of Canon Singapore, so why the large price hike? after all the Singapore price already includes all local taxes and importation.

Just got off the phone with HP Philippines regarding the HP B9180 printer.

Basically I was jerked around for 30 minutes, passed from pillar to post and eventually the line went dead.

Looks like Epson/Canon and HP Philippines customer service is severely lacking!

Anybody have any options for shipping a 50kg printer? :Grin:

@ Mike

I took the liberty of informing Canon of your concern and your experience with their customer service.

@Jo,

Thanks,

I left them in no doubt of what I thought of them yesterday!! To say that I was blunt would be an understatement!

Obviously you expect products in the local market to be more expensive than the US (different taxes/bribes etc..) but to be 70 plus percent more (same with the Epson 3850) is shocking!

Photography in the Philippines is in it's boom time just now. The company's should be falling over backwards to satisfy the consumers because when the fall in the market comes (as it will, not going to explain my theory here as it would take up pages) they will need to keep those customes to stay in business.

I'm extremely interested in starting to produce lots of prints (for my own pleasure and decorating my house) but I refuse to deal with these people who just who seem to live on a different planet.

Well then I'll print the photos for you Mike. :)

I can't answer for the pricing in the Philippines unfortunately. The only thing I can inform you about purchasing a printer from another territory is that the ink cartridges all come with chips on them. The ink cartridges may only be programmed to work within the territory. Meaning, if you buy an Epson from the US, don't expect it to work with the inks that you buy here.

I can say that the Epson and Canon models are one of the highest rated in the world. Maybe just bite the bullet and make the buy.:)

@Nick,

Thanks for the offer of doing my printing but there is a certain pleasure to gained from getting everything right and seeing your prints coming of your own printer.

I'm also aware of the issue with printer cartridges being chipped. I'm sure that if somebody took this to court the practice of chipping cartridges to only work with with certain printer would be made illegal.

You're referring to a post that I wrote back in 2007 :D

The photo congress is an annual event.

I don't know when the next one will be held.

HTH.

Cheers!
