Hi guys. Any idea what sites I can check out to download some high res backrounds and borders? I have been trying to search but all I get are clip art sites with 72 dpi. I need at least 200dpi.

Thanks in advanced!
Pilar:)

Give me the exact requirement and I'll come up with something customized for you... :)

A concise, precise description might also be helpful.

4. go to image>canvas size
new size -

You can also use one of Photoshop's built-in actions: Frames.

If you don't have the Actions pane enabled, go to Window, and select Actions from the drop down. The Actions pane should be visible now.

On the top right corner of the Actions pane, you will see a circle with an arrow head pointing to the right. Click on that circle.

On the lowest segment of the flyout menu that appears, you will see Frames as one of the options listed. Click on Frames.

Now you will see the Frames option in the Actions pane. Make sure you have an image open, and then try out any of the Frame Actions by clicking on one and then clicking on the Play button at the bottom frame of the Actions pane.

Experiment as much as you can for best results.

Happy framing! :D

If you don't have photoshop (or don't to go through the hassle), just download Faststone Image Viewer, which has a few borders you can apply in batches with ease (without the hardware resource of PS).

http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDownload.htm

FrameFun is a good tool as well.

Here's my share on how to create a simple black photo border for your pictures.
1. open your image in photoshop°.
2. select the cropping tool.
3. change the foreground color to black.
4. select all the part of the picture with the cropping tool.
while the bounding box indicating the area to be cropped is still present,
hold down the [alt] + [ctrl] and drag the mouse outside the actual image
area creating an extra part of the image, that will turn out to be your border.
5. of course you have to press [enter] to complete the process.

happy bordering. :Grin:

will putting borders to all your shots will give extra effect to your photo? or it would be better ba if not to put borders?

i never use borders as a preference but when i see photos with borders, they do have some positive effect on the overall look of the image.

borders do enhance the photos. but since dpp site is black maybe just a plain thin white line will do.

another question.

how do you decide on what color/s to use for border/s to give it an extra effect ?

Having a border on your photo gives your work an optical illusion of a "Framed Artwork".
Some frames have textures, some are simple and some are dirty/grungy... it depends really on your taste :)

Just an observation:

The border called attention to the fact that your shot isn't level - the horizon is tilting down towards the right :D

no, it's not aligned. it's now tilting to the left. remember water seeks it's own level.

another question.

how do you decide on what color/s to use for border/s to give it an extra effect ?

In order not to affect the image too much, I use neutral colors for the border. I prefer to use the 18% neutral grey when doing framed shots, but white is also good. I find that black creates a `void` or negative space that makes a big impact on the image...but it might just be me. However you can use border colors to create effects to your image, if that is your intention. As mentioned, depending on the theme or feel of the image, you can also use textures (grunge/scratches/patterns) to enhance the concept.

Hello, newbie here, just an inquiry.. I often put frames on my edited/final photos before they get posted online(facebook for now). I add frames on my photos using PS, would just like to ask if there's an easier way to do this rather than putting rectangular shapes under the edited photo? Currently I only use black rectangular shapes that acts as borders, im not aware if there are border/frame templates readily available but then again if i use those then that means im using somebody else frames(might as well make my own, but what on what program?). help me out DPP peeps, Thanks!:)

here's how i make borders in CS5

1.) ctrl+a to select entire image

2.) goto edit->stroke and enter these values...
width:10px;
color: white;
Location: Center;
Blending: normal;
Opacity:100%
Press Ok

3.) goto image->Canvas size
width: 100 unit: pixels
height: 100 unit: pixels
check relative
canvas color: black
press ok

this is a double white and black border... hope this works for you

you can save this as an action and assign a function key (ex. F3) so you won't have to do this process to every photo. just press the key and photoshop will do the steps for you

Wow, this is the exact same border im using but i used to do it this way: funny, not aware that i could do it easier : )

1. Original image after edit - will go to blending option, stroke line to white, opacity at 100. now the side of the picture is illuminated with white line.

2. Then will go to image-image size, take a mental note of the size- width and height.

3. Set the backround color to black then go to File-new untitled, background color set to black with additional 100pixel size on both width and height.

4. Drag the edited image to the new window..reposition using arrow keys to the center.

5. Done, - i used to do this on every image thats needs to be framed.

Wew!..thanks bro, that makes my things easier, a way lot easier: )

you could also use step 3 twice. one for the 10px white, then the other one for the 100px black :)
