Which photo paper you choose for printing colored Land/Seascape photos?

Planning to print one, but can't decide to which photo paper to use... I would like to seek answers for the landscape artists here who prints their works. I'll be printing it on not less than an A4 size...

i have tried searching the answer on the forum, but can't find one. if there's a similar thread like this, please paste the link.

Thanks & regards to all...

Hmm, I think it's rather subjective and totally depends on your photo and what you want to convey... Personally, if my (non-portrait) photo has little reflective surfaces or I want to convey texture, I prefer matte. For reflective stuff, I like metallic paper, but still, it's not that cut and dry and I try to print it on different paper stock to see which looks better...

Of course, I only bother doing that if it's worth printing large, otherwise, normal glossy is fine with me hehe.

One word of advice, if your are mounting your photo behind glass, don't use glossy paper as you may end up with "wet spots" where the glossy paper touches the glass.

I'm a matte person myself. I love the way a matte print feels to my fingers. :)

Glossy is good for bare picture presentations, however it easily acquires fingerprint marks that looks very evident on the surface of the paper. And Arthur is right, if you are bound to put the picture in a frame with glass in it, better to make it matte than glossy.

I recently liked Photoline's matte paper :)

Nice photo Jhim. You back in Manila now or are you in Dubai?

I would print that photo Super Glossy or Wet looking and on a Durst Lambda. If in Dubai, find the lab that can do it. I am sure there are several Durst Lambda people there. The paper you should look into is FUJI FLEX. The print will make you feel like you are in the same location where you took the photo.

Your image also works well for a Fine Art Matte print. This should be done on a top of the line Large Format Epson or Canon Printer using Pigment ink. The paper to look into would be Hahnemuehle Photo Rag because of its high dmax but little texture.

The Fine Art paper is nice in your hands so if you plan to print small, this may be the way to go. However, if you plan to make a large image and frame behind glass, the matte print will almost always lose to the gloss print because of a lack of pop. Glass can dull the image so gloss papers with more dmax are better if framed. This goes opposite to the advice given above, but I've printed and framed many images for many photographers who sell their work. Gloss will almost always be a better option behind glass.

last one guys, really new to large printing... if the Photo Frame says 40x50cm; does it mean that it's the entire frame size? or the size of the photo that would fit on the frame? confused... thanks again...

Good. Kodak has a very shiny gloss paper. I don't know the specific name but they do have one (not as shiny as Fuji Flex but shiny enough). Use it and you should be good. Report back what happens. I'm almost 100% certain you will like what you get especially if that sucker comes off the Lambda.

Sorry to hear about your catching dengue. The photo was worth it. Just got me thinking about a subject to discuss in DPP---How far do you go for the shot?

got the print-out already sir nick (16x20), and it was fantastic... thanks for your advice... Getting Dengue for this shot, was indeed all worth-it.... :D well, if you're going to open a discussion for this subject, for sure plenty of members here have a lot of stories to tell...

and btw, photo printing is as addictive as taking photographs...
