nino_carandang 06-26-2006, 12:05 PM eddie, we can't critique here. you have to post it in the critique gallery. i must say that the photos are really good. mind telling us how you took them.
caloy_samson 06-26-2006, 12:06 PM nice pics Ed...mind posting the exif data:)? tnx.
Eddie Tan 06-26-2006, 01:06 PM Ok. No worries!
Here's the exif data you requested Caloy.
ISO: 200
Aperture: f/13
Exposure: Bulb
Focal length: 18 mm.
Essentials for this type of shots are: Tripod and remote switch (gives you more freedom than using timer).
caloy_samson 06-26-2006, 01:43 PM Ok. No worries!

Thanks Eddie...the info will come in handy in my future phot ops.
Miguel Vecin 06-26-2006, 05:49 PM Great shots....btw how long did you keep the shutter pressed?? how do you know how long to keep it on?? Sorry for the basic questions im a begginner :)
Thanks
Eddie Tan 06-26-2006, 05:56 PM No worries Miguel! We are here to learn.
In those photos, the shutter was open for 9 sec, max 13 sec. There is no rule for that but you have to compensate your ISO and aperture. And your exposure depends on the speed on the fireworks shooting and if you are applying other techniques on fireworks photography. :P
Hope this helps! Don't worry, I am also still learning. :P
All the best!
Cheers!
Square
Miguel Vecin 06-26-2006, 10:14 PM Thanks...I'll try it out. :)
Arnell Umali 06-26-2006, 11:32 PM Another approach. If I remember correctly:
ISO 800
F/2.0
1/60
Handheld

Sir eddie thanks for this great settings.... no wonder your shot was really great
Marton_Benitez 06-27-2006, 02:55 AM Wow amazing :)
I learn something new everyday.
Longer exposures give the fireworks a more solid form while faster ones break it up :)
I've only tried taking a few firework shots (last new year lang) I will try this out soon.
Eddie Tan 06-27-2006, 09:55 AM Thanks Rovic and Marton for the compliments.
I've tried shooting fireworks handheld aswell.

As I have mentioned earlier, there is no rule to that but you are risking your opportunity. Nobody is going to hold you not to shoot fireworks with your camera handheld. At the end, it is the outcome that matters.
Nice photo Arnell, btw. :P
Here's a photo that I took that was used for ads at the Philippine Daily Inquirer last June 23, 2006. Page A18.

Marton_Benitez 06-27-2006, 10:10 AM Now that's pretty :) If only the street lamp wasn't there :)

BTW, this photo was on page 5 of the Philippine Daily Inquirer last July 28, 2006, Starmaker's ad for Mall of Asia's Fireworks show.
