I've been tweaking my picture styles lately to come up with the best picture style for different situations. So far, for fashion and portrait, portrait picture style works best. For other occassions, I shift between standard and faithful.

What do picture style do you use?

New picture styles have been created and posted in Canon Japan's website. Here's the direct link: http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/picturestyle/shooting/file/index.html

Check it out. Instructions on how to upload to your camera can also be found in the same website. Only available for EOS 5D, 1DMk2N and 30D.

for my product shots, I normally use landscape. But when I shoot with image model, I prefer portraits.

Most of the time, I shoot Raw. That way, I can control my colors. I use only the monochrome preset for slideshows during the wedding.

Hmmm. I never used portrait because I didn't like the resulting skin tone. It usually gets a bit to pinkish, I suspect it might be more geared towards caucasian skin.
I usually shift between using standard and neutral styles depending on the nature of the shot. I generally prefer standard, but if color accuracy is a priority, I prefer neutral. There are certain situations where in certain colors can get too saturated, then neutral suits better for this.
I do all my shooting in RAW and apply the styles upon conversion.

I have set the camera to Faithful and left it at that. There was a lot of discussion on the web when the 5D was launched about it's over the top colour. The consencus then was that Faithful produced the best colours without going over the top so I have stuck with that.

IS this picture Style available to the 350D?

Correct me if I am wrong, 350D doesn't have picture styles. it only has parameters. If you want to take advantage of picture styles, open your photos in Digital Photo Professional and edit it there.

Nino,

You are correct, the 350D doesn't have picture styles. It was first introduced with the 5D/1Dmk2N and then added to the 30D.

To be honest I don't see the need for it. If you are spending money on a dSLR then you have to shoot raw, then you can do what you want in post.

It's actually a pointless technology if you are shooting in RAW. But if shooting in jpeg, gets you good (sometimes great) results immediately. Tried clear and twilight, loved the purple skies you get with twilight (jpeg).

Whoah!!! picture styles... i didn't know what you guys were talking about until somebody mentioned about the camera model... then i realized if mikedougan didn't mention that i wouldn't have ever figured it out... i think it would be nice to have some sort of introduction at least to orient us novices on the terminologies used before the posts and comments invariably lead to more technical discussion...

sorry my cameras are not equipped with Pictures Styles so i was initially completely lost.. sensiya na po.. there's just so much to learn and know that newbies like myself could easily lose track of the conversation

I just loaded 'em in there, but I rarely use it and prefer to post process them.

I shoot in raw therefore the camera settings are quite useless. When it comes to post processing everything depends on my mood and how I want to present a picture, I usually play around checking which tone and balance I prefer the most and thats where I start.

Cheers!

I shoot RAW most of the time so I just set the picture style to standard but if I shoot jpeg, I use twilight more often. :)

i shoot in raw+ small jpg most of the time and raw some of the time. i find neutral or faithful to be the quickest to process.

for those other times i use jpg, it doesn't really matter- they're for "picture-picture" purposes only.

so neutral all the time for me....
