Hi again...

To be honest, I'm still working on a look that I can "keep" consistently on most of my B&W, and I'm a relative newbie at this as well...

But most of my conversions are made either by Curves actions (You can download them from this article (http://www.prime-junta.net/pont/How_to/n_Digital_BW/a_Digital_Black_and_White.html?page=3), I use the film effects from this site quite often, along with the grain file.

If I'm not using that technique (a bit laborious), I often do this (90%) of the time.

Go to the Channels palette and check which one or two channels in RGB gives me the most contrast and tonality... It really depends on the scene and subject.

Then I go to IMAGE >> CALCULATION, then usually choose RED and Green or Red and Red with Multiply blend mode...

Convert to greyscale mode, then reconvert back to RGB mode...

Then adjust levels and curves to my liking...

I'm trying to go for a high-contrast look these days, as shown in my current B&W set... http://digitalphotographer.com.ph/forum/showthread.php?t=4303 (http://%5BURL=%22http://%5BURL=%22http://%5BIMG%22%22)

You can also just add a FILTERS layer, then add another HUE/SATURATION layer on top of your image layer... Then adjust the saturation settings to -100 and then adjust the FILTERS layer by choosing the desired filter color and moving the DENSITY scale all the way up to 100%... I use the red filter and orange filter quite a bit.

When you're done, just add a curves or levels layer to tinker the contrast... Once you've made an action for this, you'll probably find this more than adequate for your B&W projects.

Oh... Drop the "sirs" and formalities hehe... "dude" or "pre" is fine with me hehe...

Hope that helps...

Oh here's a couple more../
