Philippines EMS Shipping (2~3 business days to arrive) - what do you think guys?
Leonard Formoso 01-06-2007, 11:01 PM Willy,
Sounds like it might be a gimmick or worse a fraud. 2-3 days plus shipping. Maybe its better you get an Air Asia ticket to Malaysia and buy it on the spot.
Bonus is to have photo ops along the way.
Leonard
rosalie_gomez 01-06-2007, 11:32 PM @willy
The price doesn't seem so bad but I personally wouldn't risk buying that over the net. Besides, the tax you will have to pay when that arrives will be huge. Just my thoughts...
zandy_marantal 01-06-2007, 11:46 PM It says "This product will be in stock on Friday 19 January, 2007."
I think it's legit but would rather wair for other more reliable retailers :)

Marco_Ingco 01-20-2007, 01:36 AM I am wondering why there's no excitement in DPReview with regards to this camera. With the Nikon and Canon brands, they would already have posted a pre-production review of these cameras. I'm very eager to get my hands on this camera but with no reputable reviews I am a little bit hesitant.

I would love this camera but I too don't know why Fuji doesn't even have sample photos in their own site.
Marton_Benitez 01-20-2007, 03:28 AM Got it off from Dpreview.com
http://www.thinkcamera.com/news/article.asp?UAN=366&v=1
Looks promising. I want one :)
Marco_Ingco 01-20-2007, 03:58 AM I thought the S5 Pro does not have ISO 3200 as mentioned in ths pre-prod review (http://www.digitalcamerainfo.com/content/Fujifilm-FinePix-S5-Pro-First-Impressions-Review/Control-Options.htm). But this article readily compares the ISO 3200 of this cam vs the D200.
zandy_marantal 01-20-2007, 06:09 AM Another one (http://www.thinkcamera.com/news/article.asp?UAN=366&v=1)...
Edit: Ooops. I guess Marton already posted the link.

randytamayo 02-04-2007, 11:15 PM ^^ There is a pre-production unit at the Fuji Booth infrom of giftgate at photoworld 2007 a while ago. It wont be on sale until June this year accoring to Ariel of Fuji. No word on pricing yet.
It looks like a D200.
otep_benavides 02-05-2007, 11:11 AM sir randy, it does because they used the d200 body for the s5 :)
Brent_Co 02-07-2007, 10:50 PM Only one thing I can say about the S5 Pro. SLOW
For the price, get a D2Xs instead. Or a D200 plus a nice piece of glass.
And another minus for Fuji was that the sales rep did not know a thing at all about the camera. As I threw questions at him, he just stared blankly at me.
otep_benavides 02-08-2007, 01:13 PM hi brent, what do you mean by slow? slow focusing? slow continuous shooting speed?
John P. Reyes 02-08-2007, 10:31 PM And another minus for Fuji was that the sales rep did not know a thing at all about the camera. As I threw questions at him, he just stared blankly at me.
I asked the rep how many frames per second. He answered with pure conviction, "8".:D :D :D
Earl Gonzalez 02-09-2007, 06:52 AM Well all I need to here from those in the Fuji booth is that it's a slow camera which is meant for portraiture, landscape and studio work...
:) Derrive the notion of speed in that...
ricky_ladia 02-09-2007, 07:40 AM That is what i don't get from fuji designers/engineers, they took a fast camera and made it slow?
It would have been a great camera given the colors from its SRII Pro sensor.
I think something is wrong with fuji. I won't be surprised if S5 won't take D200 accessories, i.e. battery grip.
As expected... high price! that, i think, will kill its market, i hope Fuji do something about this.
And yes S5 is Knee-con D200 minus the interface and "fastness" as S2 and S3 is from Nay-kon F80.:)
Aris Guerrero 02-09-2007, 08:22 AM ^^ There is a pre-production unit at the Fuji Booth infrom of giftgate at photoworld 2007 a while ago. It wont be on sale until June this year accoring to Ariel of Fuji. No word on pricing yet.
It looks like a D200.
i held that. and boy was it a very sweet camera. although it has the same body as the d200 (28-70, 3.5), i didn't know why it felt right as opposed to when i tried the d200 (w/ 50mm, 1.8). :D
and yes, no word on pricing.
gerry_dulay 02-11-2007, 12:33 PM I read about the S5 Pro before, and also heard in the past that some wedding photographers preferred Fuji colors to the Nikon colors, so naturally I got curious about "Fuji's D200". :)
http://www.letsgodigital.org/html/review/fujifilm/finepix/s5pro/fujis5pro_EN1.html
Essentially it confirms what the preproduction photos have shown (though this is still a review of a preproduction unit). They changed nothing from the Nikon D200's body so form factor and durability should be exactly the same. AF system and build in speedlight look to be the same, though I missed it if any review said it worked in Commander mode. Seems it will use all of the accessories compatible with the D200 (notice the Nikon battery grip used).
So what's so different between the D200 and S5 Pro? The bigger 12 megapixels of resolution extrapolated from the Super CCD arrangment means bigger buffer requirements (so you have to expect FPS goes down to 3 from 5 on the Nikon/Sony 10 megapixel CCD). It's all in the sensor and software, so the final image will still be decidedly Fuji, and some Fuji touches like Face Detection and Film Simulation (with Velvia simulation) are thrown in.
Is that worth the premium over the D200? I'm not so sure, but that's my own opinion. :)
Apologies if this has been posted before.
Joel A Vicera 03-02-2007, 03:32 PM btw, available na po ang S5 pro sa singapore... nasa s$2.7K (85K pesos)

David Tong 05-10-2007, 04:30 PM After reading the dynamic range capability of databacks (this month's DPP), i'm very fascinated with cams with great dynamic range now... I think it has been many photographer's frustration (esp if you came from film) of DSLR's lack of dynamic range especially in high contrast images...
This is so nice...

Felicisimo Silabay 07-06-2007, 02:07 PM The new recently released Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro Digital SLR Camera is reputed to excel in portraits, produce excellent quality pictures and has a very good skin-toned reproduction compared to any digital SLR camera in the market right now. It is often mentioned alongside Nikon D200 because of the similarities in build, appearance and some of the functionalities, but aside from that the mechanisms inside are very much different from one another. Here is a link to a site(http://www.smartratings.com/review/photography/digital_cameras/1028) where a compilation of expert reviews about the camera is aggregated.
Joel A Vicera 02-11-2009, 07:11 AM in singapore, a brand new s5pro now sells here at 1.1K SGD (35K pesos)
willy_palacios 02-11-2009, 09:33 AM ....well that's really the trend with electronics, after 2yrs has past almost 60% off from it's original price
ryanhayudini 02-13-2009, 12:03 PM Is it me or was it P25T at the PWA? (or P35T?)
diegojose 02-20-2009, 12:39 AM I think it was 35k. Awesome camera :)
ryanhayudini 02-22-2009, 10:57 AM Not bad! Cheaper than most used D200s
denmark.yuzon 02-23-2009, 12:30 PM is this camera that good? wow.. im considering going film all the way.. but if this cam can deliver film-like images.. this would be a great back up and alternative to or even a main option for my coming birthday purchase.. next to a d60.. haha.. its so similar with nikon's design, and it uses nikon f-mount.. wow.. i would so much like to test this..
diegojose 02-23-2009, 07:27 PM Much better than a D200 too! Awesome dynamic range in that thing.
denmark.yuzon 02-24-2009, 09:52 AM Much better than a D200 too! Awesome dynamic range in that thing.
the downside is.. its kind of slow.. 1.5 fps? why is it that slow? hmm.. i wished it was more like 3-4 fps..
Joel A Vicera 02-28-2009, 09:20 AM got mine last night lang at 1188 singapore dollars (40K pesos) with free 8Gig Lexar Platinum II CF card. :)
WilsonCo 03-09-2009, 07:19 PM Would you get this over newer cams like the d90?
Momon Baula 03-10-2009, 04:56 AM I started using a Fuji S5 since Feb2008 after comparing it to a d300 and have no regrets choosing it over the D300. I tried a D300 again last september and still preferred the S5. For me, the d300 wins over the S5 on a lot of things except where it matters most, which is Image Quality and there the S5 excels.
nino_carandang 03-10-2009, 07:17 AM Would you get this over newer cams like the d90?
i would. the dynamic range and the color reproduction is simply outstanding with the s5 pro.
denmark.yuzon 03-10-2009, 10:52 AM i would. the dynamic range and the color reproduction is simply outstanding with the s5 pro.
wow.. really sir nino? now that it came from you, i guess, i now have three contenders for my berdey purchase.. hahaha.. im just bothered by the slow fps since there's an upcoming church basketball league soon after my berdey., and i was asked to cover it for our newsletter..
arnoldcruz 03-10-2009, 11:22 AM IMHO the S5 Pro is best for anything other than sports. I was told of a story how frustrated one user was shoting Formula 1 in Singapore, all he got were the behind of the cars :D
denmark.yuzon 03-10-2009, 11:29 AM IMHO the S5 Pro is best for anything other than sports. I was told of a story how frustrated one user was shoting Formula 1 in Singapore, all he got were the behind of the cars :D
:D hahaha.. well, i guess its just one time shooting.. im gona use my fm2n with a motor drive to get a decent 3.5 fps.. talkin about old school baby.. hahaha..
seriously, this a big contender to my choices, the d90 and the 40d... now i have three choices to narrow down..
Momon Baula 03-10-2009, 12:29 PM I brought an S5 in Singapore GP and took my shots in RAW(around 25Mb) so imagine how sloooower it was writing to card when buffer got full..if you are shooting sports then the S5 is definitely not for you, thats where i recommend the D300, the 3D focusing is superb, just fine tune your WB prior to shoot!! I know your asking about D90 but for the price of a new D90, you can get yourself a decent 'used D300' which i think is better value.
As for my F1 shots, i timed it that when they hit the apex when they are at their slowest and images came out ok. I call it wa-es shooting..:)
With the S5, I recommend high speed cards, no slower than ExtremeIII.
...Just my 0.02 cents.

thats a good suggestion, but the d300 is still quite expensive.. about 10k more.. i would want one.. but the price is too steep.. and oh i didnt mention that it will only be a back up cam.. film is still going to be my main medium.. i set a d90 price as my target if ever i change my mind... but if i didnt, im gona settle with an entry level camera, and just upgrade or buy more items for my film cam.. ^_^ thats why the s5 is appealing to me.. as a back up cam..
WilsonCo 03-10-2009, 11:48 PM i would. the dynamic range and the color reproduction is simply outstanding with the s5 pro.Now that's something to think about. I must admit I never considered the S5 because I thought the price was still way up there.:D
Momon Baula 03-10-2009, 11:53 PM an S5 body in HK now costs eguiv of roughly P36t..pretty affordable if you ask me

tried to get in touch with new sankyo but they said they dont have it on stock. any other suggestion where i can get S5 Pro at bargain price? TIA.
Mon Dy 04-29-2009, 11:49 AM Momon,
You sure about the price of S5 in HK? We still sells S5 at P45K cash body only. That's a low low price if you can get it at 36K.
Ariel, am i right that you are selling S5? Do you have a store or shop where I can go visit?
Thanks.
Gilbert Bormate 05-29-2009, 01:49 AM Hi,
Where in HK you can buy the s5? Is it really for 36K?
Mon Dy 05-31-2009, 01:14 AM was lucky to find one at Hidalgo last week.. the last stock of S5 Pro of Avenue Photo..
dave_trinidad 05-31-2009, 01:22 AM was lucky to find one at Hidalgo last week.. the last stock of S5 Pro of Avenue Photo..
how much did you get it for?
LeoGonzales 06-30-2009, 03:52 AM Hi folks! I'm not sure if it's ok to plug here, but I have a s5pro I bought 2 months ago that I may be selling when I'm in Manila last week of July. It has around 2000 clicks only and under international warranty. In case, I'd sell the body with a 18-55mm nikkor kit lens and 2GB CFcard for 45k. If anyone's interested just send me a message, please. :) Reason for selling: d300.
Thanks,
Leo
