ernie_monzon 07-17-2010, 10:07 PM my vegetable!! [my gulay]
impressive ISO boost! question is, how much noise there is?? :)
pjflordeliz 07-17-2010, 10:27 PM cutie white LX5 :)
no 1080p capture though..
JPMacalinao 07-17-2010, 11:10 PM WHOA!!! GAS! hahaha... improved ISO (12800) and shutter speed (1/4000). Manual and zoom on the movie mode and were all set hehehe:D
carlo_mendoza 07-20-2010, 10:20 AM Oops ... requested model not found. Please start again from Support Home.

Compared to the LX3:
The 1/1.63" (~0.45cmē) sensor itself has been redesigned and an additional layer of condensing microlenses added to offer increased sensitivity and saturation figures, resulting in an improvement in dynamic range. The user interface has also been revised, with a GF1-style clickable control wheel replacing the LX3's joystick, making it easier to change settings. Most significantly the lens range has been extended to offer a more flexible 24-90mm equivalent range while retaining a bright F2.0-3.3 maximum aperture range (it also matches the LX3's lens brightness over the shared focal length range).
David Tong 07-21-2010, 03:09 PM Not bad at all!!!
ernie_monzon 07-21-2010, 04:33 PM i wonder if the accessories like lens adapter, tele/wide converter will be compatible with LX3's?
carlo_mendoza 07-22-2010, 08:37 AM it has a new set of accessories actually. though the only difference is that the lx3 lens adapter has 46mm thread while the lx5's has a 52mm thread.
victor_vesuna 07-22-2010, 09:36 PM here's an article from popular photography, though there are some errors specially on the video function of the lx3
http://flash.popphoto.com/blog/2010/07/panasonic-lumix-lx5.html
It's better to wait for sometime and read reviews about this camera, sometimes past models are better than the upgrades
just like what happened many years ago with the Sony V3
Clemn A. Macasiano, Jr. 07-22-2010, 09:42 PM B.I ..... B.I .... he he he

JPMacalinao 07-23-2010, 11:05 PM I've finally got the chance to see this one in Ansons Greenbelt or Ayala ( Not sure coz im not used t be there always) anyways, Currently, it is pegged at 29,000...
You mean theyre already selling LX5's (I doubt it)? 29k, not bad at all!:D
Efren Lubrin Jr 07-23-2010, 11:13 PM yep.. However the salesman said that only 5-6 units are available..
bingpena 07-24-2010, 12:17 AM units are available..
oh my gulay!!! :Scared:
do they have the white one?
Efren Lubrin Jr 07-24-2010, 01:25 AM Nope.. Only the standard Black one. The white one will arrive sooner as they said but no ETA. From what I observed, the LX5 looks a muscular upgrade body of LX3 :D
tomvillar 07-25-2010, 11:49 PM Wow it's already available:Dum:, that was quick!, I hope the grey market units arrives soon so we could compare the prices already. Nice.. about to buy my 1st cam guys and I'm contemplating on several models D5000, Lx3 and now the lx5. I need a camera that can shoot video's too. haha it's tough.
ryan.nicolas 07-26-2010, 03:40 PM ohmy mommy! nice .......
andrewong 07-26-2010, 05:11 PM I think this is an upgrade just for the sake of an upgrade. That said, i only want it if I can get a white one. the black looks too similar to the LX3.
JPMacalinao 07-27-2010, 09:25 AM no kidding?!? theyre out already? have they even been officially released yet? that was quick! :)
OliverReyes 08-12-2010, 01:00 PM Oh my... was considering an LX3 or GF1 till I saw this.
I like one in black. It'll be invisible on most black colored seat covers, plus a dark car tint equals... "I don't see a camera to steal from your car" :)
andrewong 08-12-2010, 10:11 PM Btw, what's available in Anson and Western is the LX3 not the LX5.
victor_vesuna 08-12-2010, 10:32 PM I'm still on the wait and see mode before I'll upgrade (if its really worht it) have to wait for the verdict from those who bought it
kennethturda 08-13-2010, 05:03 AM Wow it's already available:Dum:, that was quick!, I hope the grey market units arrives soon so we could compare the prices already. Stick with the D5000 dude, a P&S will always be a P&S
But this is mouth-watering:D
i need to wait for the reviews first, then decide whether to sell my good old LX3 or not:)
tomvillar 08-14-2010, 07:14 AM Thanks for the advise Kenneth, I'm really leaning towards the d5000, but I'm just holding on a bit more (good luck to me) :) waiting for the lx5 it might just sway me towards it, bit if the price would be the same or even more than the d5000 (hope not) hmmm, i would probably go with the nikon :) .
tomvillar 08-30-2010, 09:43 AM FYI guys, my uncle just texted me this am and the current price in Hong kong for the lx5 is at 4590hkd or around P26,600, this is expected since it's a hot new item :).

camslozano 09-12-2010, 11:58 AM just got my LX5 from Henry's last Thursday. got it for 25,500 from Henry's. It's my first time to have a Lumix and I'm a bit paranoid because it smells like there's burnt wires inside. :BlackEye: It's not that strong but when you put the camera near your nose you can definitely smell it at the top part of the camera - where the microphone is and where you attach a viewfinder. Plus, when I browse photos, there's a thin red line in the lcd that randomly appears for one second.
There are also 3 small dots that are blank. This is a bit hard to explain but when I view a black photo, the 3 dots are more obvious since they are blank/white.
Not sure if my explanation makes sense. LOL
Anyone else experiencing this? Should I have the unit replaced?
camslozano 09-12-2010, 11:59 AM thanks @ sir felicianolegara. first time ko magkaron ng digicam. hehe sana matuto ako.

Willy Mahalin 09-12-2010, 02:04 PM sir will yung sa inyo ba ganun din?
@cams, yun amoy ganon, pero i think dahil bago lang. amoy lang naman pag nilapit talaga ilong. wala pa naman ako napansin thin red line or dots. pero yesterday, when i tried taking pictures, me lumabas na green vertical line sa gitna. nawala rin naman. weird, sa particular subject lang lumalabas, sa iba hindi lumalabas eh.

might be dead pixel... call your dealer and ask for replacement if ever.
Willy Mahalin 09-12-2010, 09:15 PM sorry bout that. just got so excited
Vince_Villamin 09-13-2010, 02:23 AM the green line is probably just streaking (flaring) from a fluorescent light source, stopping down might get rid of the problem.

Thanks sir Willy.. Thankfully, I haven't seen the red line for a while now but the dots are still there.

Thanks for the info sir. I'm not very familiar with the term so I made a little research over the internet.., If I understood it correctly, dead and hot pixels affect the actual photos. The dots on my cam's lcd doesn't appear in the actual photos when I view them using my PC. So does this mean that I shouldn't worry about it? If I don't ask the store for replacement, will these blank pixels get worse over time?
Thanks in advance!
victor_vesuna 09-13-2010, 06:07 AM any sample photos?
johnluthergarcia 09-13-2010, 09:24 AM Hopefully we can get a side by side photo comparison from the LX3 & LX5. :)

Thank you sir. That was the site that I actually found. I guess the dots on my lcd are neither dead nor hot pixels since they do not appear in the final photos. :)

What generic flash are you using for your lx5? Are accesories for LX5 already available?

Hi Kris,
If I may answer, kimstore is located somewhere in Divisoria. But you can also checked them at www.kimstore.multiply.com (http://www.kimstore.multiply.com)

wow sir, these are the types of shots I'm looking for =)! Would you mind if you share the settings you used for these photos (and if you used flash)?
Because I'm looking to buy an easily pocketable cam I can bring to a concert, with HD video function but I want to swap too to stills. (Can't afford a DSLR or a superzoom at the moment, and those too bulky so i might get kicked out ahaha). And as you know concert lighting can get quite dark, so i would really want to achieve this look or base from it.

Thanks a lot, that's a great idea.
p.s. what do you recommend we use to scrap the clips, a pocket knife will do?

but if that's fine with you, should be no problem...

@ marco, oh.. good thing i ddnt get one yet, for ur mod, you just scraped off some parts right? won't it scratch any surface of the cam when you put it on? also, was wonderin, is this type of lenscap screw type? so once you put this on and you didnt like it, you can still have the option of going back to using the orig lens cap?

Hi Marco, how much does the JJC cap cost in SG?
marcomariano 10-18-2010, 08:15 AM bernice, not screw type. so you must scrape as smooth as you can to avoid damaging your cam's screw thread where it would hold it self...

lucasluchico 10-30-2010, 11:59 PM @tomvillar: yup the same thing happened to me when i tried downloading my avchd vid.
did some research and it turns out most of the LX5 units sold here came from PAL regions, (UK, CHINA, SPAIN etc). The Philippines is a NTSC country, hence the conflict.
I wasn't able to find a way to switch it to NTSC, and im starting to think there is no toggle for it. I think inherent sya talga eh.
:( so for now i've resorted to using Motion jpg. but my consolation is this, if you are into vid editing your better of using Motion jpg since it's an easier format to use.
Im using adobe preimier C3 for editing :)

tomvillar 10-31-2010, 07:59 AM Thanks Lucas, that's what I figured but if you still want to use avchd lite, I've tried viewing or converting the files using anyvideo converter,:) which is a freeware, or if you would like to directly transfer the avchd lite files to dvd I just use dvd flick another freeware you could just download, but of course to make it simple we could just use motion jpeg. It's the video out playback toggle. Unfortunately, since our units are PAL, it also records in PAL. I've checked the video details and they are identified as being recorded in 50fps regardless of the video out. 50fps is the SH AVHD setting for PAL lx5 units.

I believe lx5 have proprietary battery, it has a built-in chip that can detect a third party pack. If you have relative in the US then let them order for you.

daniel go 11-15-2010, 10:16 PM Hi Sir Daniel,
I am fascinated with your shot. Can you please share what are the settings for this shot and how did you do it?
Apologies from a newbie sir..Just want to maximize my camera.
Hi there Mandy, thanks for the kind words. That shot was done in manual mode with aperture set at f/8 iso 80. I have to chevk my file for the shutter speed but i deliberately ybderexposed the shot by at least 2 stops :)

archietolentino 11-19-2010, 05:16 PM is it just me or are the LX5 jpegs softer than the LX3's? Must be the new lens? Hmm.. where to tweak, where to tweak...
daniel go 11-19-2010, 10:24 PM Archie, yup It a tiny bit softer but nothing a slight bump in sharpness level won't solve :)
archietolentino 11-20-2010, 06:45 AM Hi Daniel, I tried that, guess I just have to bump it up more. Finally got what I wanted when I turned off the I.R. :)

Good morning guys!
jasetiojanco 11-21-2010, 11:56 AM Hello everyone! I just got my Lumix LX5 yesterday from kimstore (http://kimstore.multiply.com). I'm a novice when it comes to photography but I really want to build up some skills on it. Bought this one instead of an entry-level DSLR since I want something I can bring everyday. I also figured that I can learn the basics of photography with this camera.
One of my first shots:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4153/5193947524_4bcce47788.jpg
I usually take photos of the food I eat using my phone (my Facebook wall is flooded with food photos). Now I can (hopefully) take better photos with the LX5. Yay! :)

Hi Sir Jaymar, the price is a bit expensive here because they have it as a package. Like they include a camera case, filters, straps and such so its a bit expensive. I got mine for 4300HKD/12 months to pay..

michaelangel0mend0za 12-08-2010, 07:56 PM i am also thinking of buying an LX-5. well still considering a Canon 500D. i been sleepless for weeks thinking which camera would i buy as a beginner.
delphimirandamd 12-08-2010, 08:17 PM Hi Michaelangelomendoza.
1st of all, D500 is an SLR, and LX5 is a P&S camera. As they are, they have inherent characteristics that you have to deal with. SLR, as they are, have interchangeable lenses. P&S, on the other hand, have fixed lenses on them. Although, Panasonic have their SLR too. Gumulo ba? he he.

i did consider that too but i think the problem is, i haven't tried using any of these cameras or even tried holding one. i am really impressed with all the photos posted in this thread that's is why it really gives me a hard time choosing between the two.
delphimirandamd 12-08-2010, 10:24 PM Michaelangelomendoza. I would say any camera, for that matter, in the right hands, will capture wonderful images. The first step is always the tough/crucial one. For me, its always the SLR 1st. It teaches the basics. Once ur good at it, u can then go w/ whatever form u want. That is, if u want to learn photography the proper way. But if u simply want to be a historian, then any will do. Again, it's just me.
Jaymar Co 12-08-2010, 11:08 PM for me if you are a beginner go first at LX5.
@sir dexter in tipidcp.com, there are sellers who sell lens cap.. they do meet ups.

Hi MichaelAngelo. Im near Baliwag. The nice thing about P&S is they are cheaper than the SLR. Im sure U can use em too when u go to SLR. U can practice 1st with em. If thats u mean for it. But the controls are a bit different from an SLR. Again, the main advantage for a P&S is the CHEAPER PRICE. Have fun.

Rawen E. Balmaņa 12-19-2010, 10:29 AM QUestion to LX5 users. Until what ISO level can you use before noise is visible(sorry for bad grammar)?
200 I would say, ISO step up increments can be set to 1/3 to 1 stops which can be useful when you are quite conservative with your ISO.
Been playing with it since I got it from an online store last Thursday. I was suppose to take it underground this weekend but don't have enough people for regular caving protocol so I took it down the Balincaguin River here in Mabini and Victoria, Alaminos for some test shots instead.
Took this photograph on 3.5feet of still water with ND8, tripod with no dry bag just my guts hoping to get the rest of my equipment high and dry. The expandable AF area on the LX5 is pretty useful when shooting low key and can also be moved on any direction within your frame. Cool. This debris is just 3feet high but an abrupt drop made setting up tricky, but again height does really matter.:D

I saw this balsa on the other side of the banks and it just might be a good foreground so I again wade my way on waist deep water. Nothing beat it's 24mm wide end on this kind of shots unless they come out with a compact with UWA. Again a slope would make a tripod set up complicated, what could stop a shooter from taking this shot anyways.

A photog friend invited me for a sunset shoot at Victoria, Alaminos on the afternoon so we drove our way to the northwest shore. The tide was on the rise and according to NAMRIA calendar tide table it would swell for 1.4 meters perfect for long exposure shots. While inching our way through boulders watchfull of crashing waves hoping not to soak our gear, two more local photogs happen to pass by us. They have gone further ahead of us after some short greetings, pros and brave souls. Us newbees decided to stay.
It's time for us to test our skills. With limited f-stops and just ND8 exposure time is not enough to have a creamy water effect but good enough to capture a little bit of the flow with the Hundred Island on the left horizon.

This is suppose to be a sunset shoot but without a GND evenly exposing both the sky and the sea is impossible so I opted to shoot with the sun on my back. Another low key attempt.
http://lh4.ggpht.com/__SAiqtEpuD4/TQ1gfd_RBGI/AAAAAAAAH5I/7xKRte9j5ug/s800/P1000339.jpg (http://lh4.ggpht.com/__SAiqtEpuD4/TQ1gfd_RBGI/AAAAAAAAH5I/7xKRte9j5ug/s800/P1000339.jpg)
It was pretty odd for a tall guy like me to be shooting with a small camera, well size does matter. I was thankful to be shooting with my new toy, packing up is no hassle. Now I'm back to my compact days, how I wish Lumix could come out with articulated LCD for difficult shooting angles. Let's see how this baby perform underground next time.
Happy shooting sir Ernz.

These pics are great! A landscape set using an LX5 with filters!Who would've known that these were shot with a P&S? It's truly a quality cam.
How were you able to mount the ND8? Handheld all the way? :)

Thanks sir Oliver. I use a generic lens adapter (that cast shadow on the right frame when using the onboard flash) on the LX5 I bought from Digital Walker in Trinoma. It comes in a package that goes with UV, CPL, 52mm snap-on lens cap with tether and a not so useful hood that vignettes for Php1,200.00. The generic ND8 I got for Php1,100.00 I think, I'm not sure on this. Still looking for that 0.8 wide converter that could bring down it's wide 24mm to 18mm. Not bad for a point and shoot, huh? I use tripod in all of these shots.
It would not hurt if I post a couple.
Taken downstream Balincaguin River.

Maye Mariano 12-20-2010, 03:12 PM Took this photograph on 3.5feet of still water with ND8, tripod with no dry bag just my guts hoping to get the rest of my equipment high and dry. The expandable AF area on the LX5 is pretty useful when shooting low key and can also be moved on any direction within your frame. Cool. This debris is just 3feet high but an abrupt drop made setting up tricky, but again height does really matter.:D
Hello sir! :) May I ask where did you get your ND8 filter? ;)
Maye Mariano 12-20-2010, 03:14 PM First ever shot with my LX5. Trial lang.

Rawen E. Balmaņa 12-20-2010, 07:07 PM Hello sir! :) May I ask where did you get your ND8 filter? ;)
Hi maye. Got it from Digital Walker Trinoma Mall. If the LX5 is your back up camera and if you happen to have 58mm filters, why not go for a 52-58mm step up filter ring instead?
Darn it! I should have thought of that earlier hehe.
archietolentino 12-20-2010, 08:32 PM Nice shares Rawen! Now I'm seriously thinking of getting filters :)
sharing some of mine, isn't it a pain to drive around these days?

Haven't tried my 430ex on my LX5 yet, I'm still adamant to do it maybe because I seldom use flash shooting except when covering events. My guru said he found a Vivitar that's ETTL to both LX3 and LX5 (can't recall the model, it's around usd120.00 on B n H), too bad our group's order did not make it this early for an actual test. Let you know once I got a chance to play with it.
If you got 58mm filters already go for a 52-58mm step up ring so you don't have to deal with another filter size. I bought a whole bunch of generic filters and non of them conveniently work for me, hard threading them in my adapter.
Nice shot on the green laden coffee brand Ernz, the fast lens on the LX5 really works on low light. Enjoy playing with your new toy.
Merry Christmas!
Rawen E. Balmaņa 12-24-2010, 09:52 PM A not so successful test shot with gnd.

I should have metered first before placing the filter into play.

ErnztMadamba 12-25-2010, 07:50 PM Bought several Accessories for my LX5.
JJC auto lens cap - 1100 php
THe LX5 lens adapter bundle kit which include, lens adapter, bayonet lens hood, lens cap, 52 mm uv filter, 52mm CPL filter and the string in which you can attach the lens cap. 1700 all from pixel pro megamall.
I was also buying the Nissin 4i66 which works for our LX5 but, it doesn't have ETTL on my lumix and the head can't be swivel. But i Saw in Youtube that it have ETTL. Maybe the sales lady doesn't know to set it up.
ErnztMadamba 12-26-2010, 05:41 PM Bought the flash. TTL works great hehe. I'm happy with my current setup. I'll post some shots soon.

Hi Maye. I tried my 580exII on LX5, guess what???? All overexposed!!!
Any setting/s in particular? Thank you.
ErnztMadamba 12-28-2010, 01:16 AM Hi Delphi,
Bought mine in Pixel Pro. 5700 cash. And 6100 i think for credit card. Anyway it works like magic. I wish that Di466 should have swivel head. hehe. But the second thing that got me buying the DI466, it works with slave mode using the optical flash. Even with your camera's flash set to manual. Because in my Di622, you need to be in TTL for it to fire off cam without using triggers.
ErnztMadamba 12-28-2010, 01:55 AM Here is my outdoor set with my LX5. I PP and add a little bit of saturation. I like the clouds to be blue. Sorry guys, it's just my taste hehe..
