View Full Version : D80 + 2 Sb600?
Jonathan Dael 01-02-2007, 11:55 AM i have a D80 and SB600.. i want to buy another flash. since the D80 can be a commander then adding another SB600 will do right? im on a budget kasi.. or will it be better to buy an 800?
so which is better? D80+SB600+SB600 or D80+SB600+SB800 ?
Raffy Crucillo 01-02-2007, 03:07 PM Just my opinion, maybe you'd like to consider getting a set of studio lights (unless you really need a 2nd speedlight for a specific purpose).
rosalie_gomez 01-02-2007, 04:27 PM If you're asking which is better, definitely the D80+SB600+SB800 but if you don't need the extra features of the SB800, why spend more? JMHO!:)
Jonathan Dael 01-02-2007, 06:12 PM studio lights also got me thinking. i'm just a newbie and would like to have a go at a simple studio setup and see how i go. i want to keep it simple at first with 2 remote flashes. :)

Thought of studio lights before as well but since these take up space, I decided to go for a 2nd flash instead. :)
Jonathan Dael 01-02-2007, 06:27 PM yeah that's what i'm thinking too! :D baka magalit yung mga tao dito sa bahay when they see all the equipment eh.. i'll start slowly muna.. haha!
darwinandres 01-03-2007, 06:30 PM I believe investing in studio lights is more practical and better option, not unless you will shoot events where portability is essential like weddings and concerts. If you are just starting to learn how to light or would like to play with lighting even a single studio light will do more. Studio lights give you several options on how to mimic hard lighting and soft lighting. You have the option to use brolli box, brolli reflector, softbox, snoot, barndoor, honeycomb, gels, etc. etc. attachments. These attachments will give you unlimited possibilities of how you can control your light. Using an SB speedlight will just give you option to bounce and create DIY attachments and remember when using speedlight you are using a relatively small source of light which produces relatively hard lighting.....
just some points to ponder =)
A 120W studio light w/ barndoor, gels, honeycomb, softbox, and lightstand set-up will only cost you about 7K in Hidalgo. An SB600 is 11K w/out stofen. With 4K difference you can already rent a model to pose nude for you he he he.

You make a very good point but I still went with the flash because one, I don't have the space for studio lights so the portability of the flash is a big bonus and second, I don't think I shoot enough indoors to justify having a set-up at home. :)
Jonathan Rufo 01-03-2007, 10:10 PM Darwin is right,
if a set of light is just 7k ,then its worth getting the studio light rather than having additional SB's.. and besides, studio lights are not stationary in a room that you need to have a dedicated room, you can just pack it up if you are done...
And light meter still cool to use.. :)
anyway, its your preference, if you have the $$$ then go ahead.
Or why not borrow SB's from friends..
Cheers :)
btw Darwin, what is the brand that you are talkin about, im just curious.
Jonathan Dael 01-04-2007, 05:31 AM thanks for the inputs.. really helpful indeed. i'll try that when i have the space for all those equipment. :) maybe in a year pa. hehe

Well if that's your reason that's valid enough :) At least you have a spare speedlight in case one will cank out (happened to me :( ) As long as you produce the photos you desire anything is acceptable.
