View Full Version : Little Planets
mitzpicardal 11-17-2006, 03:53 PM I am starting to reproject some of may panoramic images into little planets.
Post your landscape and cityscape little planets here and tell us how did you make it.
Here's my first:
http://www.filphoto.com/albums/userpics/10335/normal_wack2planet.jpg
Stitched using Panotools with equirectangular output projection. Blended the output with Enblend. Opened the Equirectangular image in Hugin and remapped to 360X300 degree output using PTStitcher. Adjusted curves and USM in PS.
mitzpicardal 12-07-2006, 11:44 AM This a shot of our house interior from the viewpoint of a butiki.
http://www.filphoto.com/albums/userpics/10335/normal_house_planet2web.jpg
mitzpicardal 12-07-2006, 11:46 AM BTW, i posted it in the "Little Planets" thread since the technique used to get this image is the same as that of my little planet technique.
mitzpicardal 12-11-2006, 05:37 PM This is the little planet version of the CamayanBeach VR.

zandy_marantal 12-11-2006, 06:21 PM Nice Mitz.
I wish I can try this out but I don't have the proper pano equipment.
mitzpicardal 12-12-2006, 09:26 AM Try it Zandy!
All you need is a tripod and your widest lens (my widest is just 24mm). Any tripod head that you can pan will do. The software will handle the parallax error. There are free software out there to do the stitching.
dave_trinidad 12-12-2006, 12:12 PM @hi Zandy, have you seen my makati planet?
notice, this is NOT a 360 deg shot. It was taken in RAW and Large JPeg. Three shots only (plus bracketing, just to make sure), left, center and right, then stitched. Just make sure there is an overlapping of the images. I just used the Jpeg version here and not the RAW yet (too big).
from this pano:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/davidus428/Portfolio/Pano-Mkati-Skyline-Chua.jpg
i got this planet:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v312/davidus428/Portfolio/Makati-Planet-640.jpg
i'm sure a better pano equipment has its advantages. I'd like to have what Mr John Chua and Mitz are using. But for now, a simple tripod or a steady hand and a 17-35mm lens will suffice. Try it, its easy. Get a good Stitching software.
I haven't tried the VR mitz was mentioning on another thread. (paturo naman Mitz).
mitzpicardal 12-12-2006, 12:19 PM Hi Dave,
Why do you bracket when shooting pano? Do you use it for HDR panos? What software do you use for stitching?
What is John Chua's using for his pano shots? I'm using Nodal Ninja head.
Let's sked some time and take some VRs. If you have a fisheye lens you dont even need a tripod and a pano head.

This projection is what you see when you lie down on the carpet and look up at the ceiling. Provided you have a 360deg version of course :)

mitzpicardal 05-18-2007, 01:32 PM hi mitz my try..its hard to remove the converging line...need to find another pic :)
Taks, Thanks for sharing your little planet. You image has a converging line because it is not a 360 degree image. A little planet should be a 360 degree image so that both ends will join seamlessly.
taks paler 05-18-2007, 01:40 PM ahhh thanks for that info mitz will try another one soon... :-)

mitzpicardal 10-02-2007, 05:28 PM what program can do these kinds of pictures? :)
PS with the Polar Coordinates Filter or with the Flaming Pear Flexify plug-in.
But this can be done better with a Panoramic software with Stereographic Projection output like Hugin.

Now this was wonderfully composed sir. This one I love from all your planet series. Brings a smile when you see it. :)
bernie_ledesma 10-18-2007, 09:29 AM Hi Mitz, Lovely series you have there, they all look so cute, I don't have an idea how you do it but id like to try this soon. I have some observations or questions like, after stitching it into a small world do you paste it onto the sky scape or was the sky originally in the panoramic photo? And is there a link where we can download stitching software you use? I use PS3.

Hi Bernie, theres no copy/paste or masking involved. All the elements are in the panoramic image. The steps and software used (yes CS3) is discussed in DPP issue 16.

MaverickJuplo 05-22-2010, 08:45 AM Polar coordinates - provide a method of rendering graphs and indicating the positions of points on a two-dimensional (2D) surface. The polar coordinate system is employed in mathematics, physics, engineering, navigation, robotics, and other sciences.
Why not apply this on photography! Hahaha! :D
I scoured through the threads, but I didn't found one. So I decided to make one.
