Wondering if you were able to shoot other sports during the Doha Asian Games? Would have loved to shoot equestrian. :)
Yuri O. Oira 12-30-2006, 07:02 PM equestrian: yang isang yan ang di ko mapasuk-pasok dahil everytime i intended to move in to the venue e umuulan. so doon ako sa 2nd option, which is get into the indoor hall events.

i can't give you canon products for their lenses & DSLRs.
pero, you might have at least the lenses with bigger aperture (the fast lenses). fast lenses start with a 2.8 or f/2.8 (but lenses with 2.8's common to sports photogs). usually ang common lenses are the 80-200mm, 70-200mm (these are fast zoom lenses with f/2.8 maximum opening) & one with fix 300mm focal length for telephotos.
you might have the super telephotos with fix focal length start with 400mm, 600mm, 800mm, 1200mm and there's a 200-400mm super telephoto zoom lens.
prices are not forgivable at first. :-) or i may say acceptable. but the zoom lenses start 1600USD and so.
another with fix 200mm focal length is very good sa indoor hall games but this has a f/2.0 maximum aperture.
yes, your 3 lenses posted can get action photos. 2nd is the best of the 3 choices cuz it has f/2.8 aperture.

Depends on what sport you plan to shoot... definitely ideal for indoor sports would be a lens with a constant 2.8 aperture. Based on the lenses you listed, the Sigma 24-70 would be your best choice. :)

Kabaddi - Rules: At the 15th Asian Games, the kabaddi competition shall be conducted in accordance with the Rules of the Asian Amateur Kabaddi Federation (AAKF).
If seven or less teams participate, the matches will be played in a single group with a round robin system. If eight or more teams participate, they will be divided into two groups to play league matches. The top two teams from each group will play in the next round knockout matches.
A victorious team is awarded two points; in the event of a draw each team receives one point while a losing team gets zero points. If there is a draw in the final or semi-finals, two extra periods of five minutes are played immediately, with the same number of players on court as there were at the end of the second half.
Each participating country or region may enter one team comprising a minimum of 10 players and a maximum of 12 players (including standby players). -- reference: doha asian games official site
allen aligam 01-04-2007, 12:13 AM yuri and rosalie,
You rock guys! ok then its done..i'll be getting the sigma lens:)
how about the reach? how far can i reach with 70mm maximum zoom using a 350D body?
:) i'll keep those lenses in mind yuri..you never know 10 yrs from now i might be able to buy them..lol!
Thanks again:) hope to shoot with you guys when i get my lens so you can give me tips:)
Yuri O. Oira 01-04-2007, 06:25 AM @allan
that is a OK ... :-) we hope you get them as fast as before the 10th year. :-)
70mm --- our answer to that is a question. how close would you like your subject in your viewfinder? if that is a nikon mount you add 50% to 70mm ... so that would be 105mm.
to be in the range, a 10-13m distant of the subject (person, medium size animal) could fill your frame. :-) mmmm, try it again. i might be mistaken. :-)
rosalie_gomez 01-04-2007, 06:29 AM @allen
You're welcome! Good luck on the purchase. Btw, test the lens well to make sure you get a sharp copy.:)

jose_deluna 01-09-2007, 04:08 PM @Yuriboi... now we're talking... galing-galing sports shooting sulit na sulit long tele-lens mo.
@Rosalie... it seems that you're into horse/equestrian shooting that much... I have a lot ot horse jumping photos which i really cannot judge as appropriate or not... I've been reviewing a lot of photos in equestrian magazines. Is there any guide at all in photographing horse jumps/equestrian competitions? (e.g., what angles to take, what portions of the horses and riders to highlight). Feel free to browse and comment on my horse jumping/equestrian photos...

Gina Avecilla 01-27-2007, 02:42 PM Hi Yuri - nice shots.
I was there too, unfortunately my DSLR was confiscated by Security officers (they say because I had a pro gear but without a press ID - though I insisted it was not a pro gear, they said my white lens was a give away). They suggested that I use a P&S instead.
When I got my gear back, I removed the battery grip, changed the lens to a black one (just in case I get caught again) and placed it inside a bag with just a cut-out for the lens and was able to shoot a few :) .
Yuri O. Oira 01-27-2007, 09:01 PM Gina, kumusta? thanks.
leni llapitan 01-29-2007, 09:07 PM Yuri - Just dropped by to say hi and congratulate you on your doha experience. Just a small comment though, while the moments of capture are good, there seem to be some soft focusing and underexposure going on in some of the photos...understandably, low light situations require adjustments in shutter speed, iso, etc....but great captures nontheless....
Yuri O. Oira 01-30-2007, 08:18 PM tama ka leni. these photos were taken in purpose. experimental kung baga. :-) palusot pa ba? seriously sinasadya sila. pre-focused ako doon sa front edge ng vault kung baga sub-object ko si roel ramirez. :-)
yun din ang comment ko sa soft focusing ng 70-200mm.
salamat from dropping by and observation. :-) wag kang madadala. that helps our pinoy photogs sa sports shooting.

yes, your 3 lenses posted can get action photos. 2nd is the best of the 3 choices cuz it has f/2.8 aperture.
My i ask what systems and lense did you use for those sport photos? ... Curious lang po :)
Yuri O. Oira 02-17-2007, 08:36 PM My i ask what systems and lense did you use for those sport photos? ... Curious lang po :)
RNOLD, musta?
i used the d2h for most shots with the 70-200mm & 17-35mm with both 2.8 max-aperture. the other shots with the combination of a TC-14E II teleconverter to the 70-200mm.
