I could call myself a photography troll. I like to visit photography events quietly and observe things from the outside. This wonderful DPP forum gives me the chance to express my observations to an educated crowd. Some photographers agree with my opinion and others do not. So back to this topic, I once visited a bridal fair at Fort Bonifacio last year just to see what the quality of work was being produced in the Philippines in wedding photography.

My opinion, the quality of work has greatly improved over the years. Wedding photographers are taking much better pictures today than they did fifteen years ago. But my other observations, many of these photographers work all look the same and pretty generic. Some the printing was also down right awful.

So my comment on the best wedding photographers I've seen? In no particular order:

1) Pilar Tuason- simple and elegant. If you want an album to stand the test of time, you choose her to photograph your wedding.

2) Lito Sy- first rate work. This guy has an eye.

3) Eddie Boy Escudero- he knows how to capture the moment. Looks like this guy is still shooting film cause his prints look it. I kind of like this.

4) Dino Lara- A good looking final product.

If I am not mistaken, the photographers I listed here charge the highest rates and righfully so! If you want good photography, you have to be willing to pay for it. Save the junk for the masses!

this is so true. i judged one wppp meeting and they happened to be passing these best of wppi books. i wasnt able to go thru most of the books but from what i saw, a lot of the photos laid out in the table could have whooped most of the pics i saw in those books.

I can only agree! I had the honor of judging last year's WPPP members' Photo-of-the-Year contest at Photo Congress 2005 - and I personally liked the top shot of a couple exiting the church with a swirl of people around. The photog dodged and burned to emphasize the couple. At 20x30, the image was a stand-out.

It was also a tough choice, since the "usual suspects" also had a signature style (e.g. Lito Style, Jorge Style, Ka Emil Style), and it became less difficult to guess who shot what after some passes.

Great thing that top shot won - and is now the hero image for Photoworld 2006. The photog's name? DINO LARA!

I guess there are no specific criteria. As you can see from the posts, some just base it on output (websites), some base it on the experience with the photographer, while some base it on the last name of the photographer.

For me, its EDDIE BOY ESCUDERO. Saw his beautiful wedding pictures HE PERSONALLY TOOK during weddings. I know some of the high level pros (here and abroad) in wedding events that uses and posts pictures that their CONTRACTED PHOTOGRAPHER(S) took and claimed that they are the ones who took the pictures. Some even entered the pictures of the contracted photographers in photo competitions/posted on their websites and boasts that (after winning the contests) THEY ARE THE ONES THAT TOOK THE PICTURES! So be mapagmasid. I pity the talents of those contracted photographers.

He can shoot a wedding with a point-n-shoot camera and still produce fine awesome photographs!

How will a viewer know if the pictures posted on sites/web are pictures really/genuinely taken by the photographer who owns the site? Experiences from watching actual weddings and stories from my photog friends tell me some of those pictures posted or even some of those "winning shots" are taken by their back-up photogs. One in particular has this "sama ng loob" story of my friend photog in which he took the "winning entry" but "credit-grabbed" by the contracting photog.

I'll go for mangred! They turned prenups and weddings to another level.
