the skate park in mandaluyong is already closed.if you are lurking for skaters to take photos off,marikina river banks is a nice place to start.the walkway near moa is one also but only during weekends.

Haven't done action shots in a while, went with my classmate to a newly opened skate park on the westside, taken with the D200 coupled with my trusty 18-70mm kit lens and post processed in CS3. Taking photos of X Games is no easy feat, i need a 10.5 Fisheye hahaha . . .

there will be an event on june 28, that will be the malachi urban tactics mall tour 2008 at sm sta. mesa carpark A, and Go! Skateboarding Day will be on june 21 though the venue is still unknown. the Stoked Triple Threat will be on Aug. 3-4.

Hi Sir Dave, great shots btw, ill upload my wakeboarding shots, I was there last Saturday.

I noticed that some of your shots have great backgrounds (clouds) aside from the dynamic foregrounds (skaters), but they're faces are quite dark. Is it because the light is so harsh that when shooting with fast shutterspeeds (or even wide DOFs) this effect occurs?

I noticed this on some of my shots, and I have an inversely related problem, where my background (sky) is so bright, but the subject's features are recognizable? I do know that there will be a balancing act for these kinds of lighting conditions, and somehow I've managed to strike a balance for these shots, just want to know some of you're techniques or even challenges (i.e. shooting positions relative to light sources) to know if I'm on the right track. TIA :D

During the time I was shooting this it was around 4pm with the sun beginning to set on my left. I guess the skaters also didn't want the sun in their face so they kept their back to the sun most of the time.

I would have probably gotten better lighting on their faces if I shot with a flash but I would miss shots (flash can't keep up with the cam's fps) or probably I could have chosen spot metering but that would probably blow out the background.

Seriously, I'm not a technical shooter so all I know is if I wanted to freeze the action I would use a fast shutter speed and let the ISO go up automatically to achieve it if necessary. I did keep my aperture reasonable enough to get some isolation but not make it too hard to get reasonably focused subjects (DOF not too narrow).
