Stumbled across this lens while surfing and it has a pretty interesting range and features. Just wondering if anybody out there who owns a Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8-4.5 OS HSM DC? Would like to get some user feedback as well as pricing. I have been contemplating on getting a standard kit 18-55mm AF-S VR for times when I want to travel light or for times when my brother/sister borrows a camera and if this is as good as this review (http://www.lenstip.com/228.11-Lens_review-Sigma_18-50_mm_f_2.8-4.5_DC_OS_HSM_Summary.html) says it is then I'll be getting this lens instead of the Nikon.

i tried the lens at JT a few months ago.my main gripe is that ts only half stop faster than the kit lens...
built wise is better than the kit
focusing wise the HSM is pretty good but not as silent as Nikon's SWM
price is at 14250 (or 14500) at JT. Medyo mahal for its specs as the 17-70 Macro (2.8-4.5) cost only 17,500

@ aldrich - wow that's expensive. I saw it at B&H for less than 200 USD and I thought pricing would more or less be the same. anyway, thanks for the info.
@ don - I already have a couple of primes, and yes back in the day (80's) I shot a lot with the 50mm and its still part of my lens lineup to this day. my interest with this lens is for when I lend my bro/sis a camera they want a compact setup to shoot with and this seemed a better option than the 18-55 vr kit lens, though I still shoot with an 18-70 and 18-105 vr, I still thought this lens was perfect for those moments but with the price as aldrich pointed out I'll pass on this one.

hi guys...
I kinda find this lens interesting. its like having a kitlens with a 2.8 value... but with that kind of specifications... would you recommend it as a replacement for a kit lens? which is frequently used on wide angled shots and light trail photography?
i know it is better to have an UWA than to have a kitlens or this lens for those kind of shots but then the 2.8 value aperture is the one that bugs me off because it could be used also for other types of shots right?
and another thing... i dont have the money to invest an UWA lens right now. so for me, its like double purpose on buying this lens (if i will). First is to replace my kitlens, and the other is to have a larger aperture af lens. I have a 50mm F/1.8 but it is a full manual lens. that is why I am eyeing this lens as an alternative (of course I am after the AF function).
please help.. im confused...

a lot of better alternatives for the price... might as well get the 18-105 VR with that price range....
