You will see a special section here called MAGAZINE shortly. Hopefully it will be up before the end of the week. In this section we will have categories such as:

Subscriptions- for those interested with details how to subscribe

Readers Comments- to ask questions that will get printed in the magazine

Photo Contest / Submissions- we will announce what kind of photos we are looking for every month. We may or may not have a contest for this but will be accepting photos every month. For our members, now is the time to get published! In the future we will only allow our subscribers to submit, but it will be open for everyone in this forum to start. How long will we keep it open we yet don't know.

News- magazine updates and the sort.

Preview- to give you an idea what is coming up the following month

I'm really looking forward to this magazine. I just hope that it will NOT be full of ads. So far, from the "imported" magazines, only Practical Photography gives me the most articles that are interesting and where one can learn from.

Good luck guys !!!!!

Hi Tina,
I think the magazine will be a pleasant surprise. We can keep the ads to a minimum if we can get subscriber support from members of this forum.

Sir,
What exactly do you count as the first week? Is it tomorrow or the week of June 5? I'm jetting off to HK tomorrow evening and it would be great to have a copy of the magazine to read while on the plane.

Thanks.

Hi Karl,
Issue #1 is already with us. I have to admit that it is gorgeous. We can confidently say that this is the best quality magazine printed locally. Subscriptions will be sent out tomorrow, while bookstores and newsstands start getting the magazine by Monday.

Unless you live in Makati, we can't get the magazine to you on time for your HK trip tomorrow. Hopefully when you get back you will see it at the newsstands.

Richard,

On the contrary, we charge an extra P 500 for subscribers outside the Metro. This is done simply because delivery is costlier. Please let us know if you have any other concerns.

I was going to suggest that you guys put in the subscription form how many issues there are in an annual subscription so that people will know how many issues they are going to get. As soon as I got the magazine this afternoon, I checked right away and it also isn't written there how many issues a subscriber is going to get.

Great magazine guys !!! CONGRATULATIONS !!!! Nick wasn't kidding when he said that I will be surprised with the magazine. It is really filled with lots of information and very few ads ... WAY TO GO !!!! I'm so glad I decided to take his word and got a subscription.

The first issue contains .... hmmmm just get a subscription and you won't regret it :-)

I'm already looking forward to the next issue !

Is it available in bookstores and news/magazine stands? If so, where?
Had a chance to leaf through a sample of the first issue at infomax and it looks great and is packed with interesting articles, nice to meet you in person Nino Carandang :).
In the process of transferring residence, will get a subscription when I've settled down. Meanwhile, I would like to get it from the bookstores.

Nick Tuason
06-03-2006, 08:12 AM
I'd like to thank Rosscapili, Tina, and Bengo for their kind words. Tina is correct in pointing out a few things. An annual subscription means twelve issues to inform everyone. The intent is to also send out subscriptions before newsstand distribution. At the moment only the subscribers have the magazine. The first stores to get it will be FULLY BOOKED. National Bookstore will start carrying around Thursday next week. Powerbooks and Bufini to follow shortly. The only reason for the slight delay is a minor barcode issue,

I'm glad that those who have seen it like the magazine. I can only tell you that it will even get better as our creative team has tons of wonderful and exciting ideas. Readers will be very surprised at the print quality. I like to think that this is the best printed magazine in the Philippines. Tons of work went into color correction, proper sharpening, profiling, proofing, etc. We also didn't use the usual C2S paper that all magazines seem to use here. In fact, it took us about a month to find a paper stock that satisfied us. The photos really pop in the magazine and it has to since we are a photography magazine. (For those members submitting photos for July, please make sure you files are of good quality otherwise we cannot use it for print).

I'll give you guys an idea what to expect in issue #2 in about two weeks.

Thanks again for the very kind words.

Hi Glenn,

National Bookstore will start carrying by next week, possibly around Wednesday or Thursday. We are simply waiting for their IT department to come up with our own specific barcode and that is why the slight delay. I would like to let you know though that not all National Bookstores will carry the magazine. You will DPP in the listed National Bookstores below:

1) Alabang
2) Festival Mall
3) Robinson's Ermita
4) Glorietta
5) Greenbelt
6) Shangri-La
7) Megamall
8) Podium
9) Market Market
10) SM North Edsa

This number will steadily increase over the months.

The provinces will only start with our second issue unfortunately.

After reading several initial reviews from the early posters, wet the appetite so to speak, now I'm dying to get my hands on the very first copy I see... unfortunately, spending the whole day at Glorietta searching for the Premiere issue turned out unsuccessful, :(

Al,

I hope no later than Thursday for National Bookstore for Greenbelt and Glorietta. The Power Books in Greenbelt make take a few more days longer. We're basically just waiting for our bar codes to be printed by them before we can actually deliver. So far only FULLY BOOKED in Rockwell, Greenhills, and Gateway have them.

Hi Nick,

Finally got my hands on a DPP copy from Fully Booked, Greenhills. It wasn't even on the display shelves/racks and I had to specifically request from their staff a copy. The reason for not displaying it yet was because of the Bar code issue you mentioned earlier. Thursday was kind a bit too long to wait, so I rushed out first hour today and off to the nearest branch.

At any rate, my first take on this ISSUE 01 - simply, World Class!
Thanks for the tip on where to get it and for the wonderful mag. Congratulations to the DPP gang!

Congrats! Galing talaga ng Pinoy!!

Nick Tuason

Thank you Al, TJ, and Carlos. I'm very glad that you all like the quality of the magazine. We put our heart and soul into this to make sure that the quality is "world class" as Al kindly mentioned. Yes, you will see more and more Pinoy content. Right now the ratio is probably 90% foreign to 10% local. We will probably get this to 60% foreign and 40% local over the next few months. This is the best opportunity for budding Fiipino photographers to get their work recognized. Lots planned and lots in store for everyone!

Hi, my name is Bert Talens and I am a Dutch printing consultant, specialised in standardizing printing according to ISO printing. I am very impressed about the quality of the magazine. I think some people won't believe it is Philippine-made - but it is!!!
I got my first copy and after that I bought already three copies to give to people I know they will appreciate the magazine. I bought them at FullyBooked in Gateway Mall - and there were still lots of copies over there!
Untill now I noticed, that the digital photography for magazines over here is not really impressive, but I think this magazine and this site will help professional digital photographers to improve their quality and to get in print what they want!

Got my copy from Fully Booked early this week. Impressive for a first issue. Lots of good articles and print quality is outstanding. Noticed a few editorial slips (e.g. in p.41 the images of the lenses are there but no model designations in some) but overall a superb effort. I hope that the following issues contain more local content (local articles, reviews of locally-available gear and software, local feedback, local photos or photos of locally-based photographers). Congrats to the staff!

Well since I've already filled up my subscription, I have to ask if the topic of travel photography includes an article regarding locally available monopods, tripods and bags for traveling with dslr's? I've been looking at buying a tripod for travelling and i'm still confused as to what to buy. also the quick release heads compatible with the tri/monopods would be a nice inclusion.

On the current issue I love the flaming girl photoshop tutorial! and the composition of an image using separately photographed elements... in short I just LOVE LOVE LOVE THE MAGAZINE!!! Congratulations on your first issue!

Congratz on your magazine's premier here in the Philippines. Got mine at fully booked last Thursday. i was supposed to get it on last Wed but the store closing beat my arrival at the place, the steel door was half-closed already and I even ask the guard if the store were still open... hehehe… anyway, i love the tutorial part from pages 65-83, i only wish that all pics published would have it's exif data like those on the readers' gallery. More power to Digital Photographer Philippines.
