It's hard to check the images after you shoot cause you have to open the hood to see the pic, and close it again to shoot. I bought one about a year ago, and it's just collecting dust in my cabinet. raymondgayondato 12-27-2006, 05:16 PM Hoodman isn't very efficient. Does anyone here knows where I could get a LCD protector for EOS 400d? Thanks! since the d30, there has never been really an issue or a need to put a protector to Canon's DSLRs. If those LCDs scratch easily, then this would be an issue a long, long time ago. When I got my 300d 3 years ago, I put a lcd protector there (from PDAs). I reliazed it just compromised my viewing and foujnd out it does not really scratch without it. Since then, I've had a 300d, d60, and now the20d, and have never put an LCD proterctor. So with my buddies who own canon dslrs. Believe me, unless you use a sandpaper, or rub that lcd to the pavement, you won't scratch it. Even if you have a lcd protector, if you do those things, it will go through it and scratch the lcd anyway. But you are free to put one on. But trust me, you don't need it. And I bet you dimes to donuts, you'll remove it anyway because it will peel by itself. You'd better keep a bunch then. This is one thing I don't envy Nikon DSLRs. To me, their lcd protector is a hassle. . nesfelicio 12-29-2006, 09:20 PM You can use packing tape (it's like scotch tape but wide enough to cover the LCD). You can just cut the edge with scissors. Won't peel off and very effective and safe. Easy to replace if it gets scratched (haven't replaced mine for over a year). I also use this on LCDs of P&S digicams. Available at True Value. joseph barretto 05-17-2007, 10:49 PM Hoodman isn't very efficient. Its a clear plastic film just like what you use for PDAs but its a bit thicker and its really designed for a 400D, with an exact fit on the 2.5" LCD Screen (nothing to cut). The price tag is around 650 yen or roughly P300. Unfortunately, I haven't seen this in the Philippines yet. nap_alcedo 05-22-2007, 09:23 PM There's a lot in HK. I bought one for my D200. It is indeed thicker than the ones used for cellphones and PDAs. It goes with another one for the upper LCD. I removed my LCD protector, the one that came with the camera because once in a while it gets snagged and falls off. Giderbert Malabute 05-23-2007, 01:19 AM bought mine at bangkok, its a 2.5" plastic sticker, Ron Neria 05-23-2007, 12:38 PM Got this one from the other forum. Optical LCD Screen Hard Protector http://www.pinoyphotography.org/forum/index.php?topic=13842.0 Paolo Aguenza 05-23-2007, 03:00 PM I got the same one as Ron. Pretty durable and no need to worry about air bubbles when I applied it. Mel Enriquez 05-23-2007, 03:13 PM I say again, there is no need to cover it. That LCD is already protected on top. That plastic thing you want protected is the cover already. That's not the LCD you are scratching, but the plastic cover on top of the LCD. That LCD cover is tougher than you think. In any case, it is cheap to have it replaced. Here is a link to a dpreview discussion on LCDs cover, if you don't believe me: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1019&message=10852446 Why now would you put a protector on top of the protector?. The cover itself is around U$7-10 maybe even cheaper here in the RP. It's like putting a lens filter on top of a lens filter to protect that filter that protects the first glass on the lens. Nikon may be great in a lot of things (better flash exposure system, ergo, etc), but definitely, when it comes to that LCD at the back, Canon has got it right. Nothing to fall off, nothing to obstruct your view or lower its contrast, nothing to lose or always keep track off. That plastic thing on top of the LCD is much better than any plastic you can put on top of it. As I said in my earlier post, you better be scraping that LCD with sandpaper for you to scratch it, but putting a thin plastic film there is just going to give you a false sense of security. It won't really protect the LCD. That plastic on top of the LCD is already protecting the LCD underneath it. Personally, even if it gets nicked, I won't mind. It will not diminish my view of the image or the histogram. With heavy use of my old d60 and 300d, they have never been scratched, and I just dump my dslrs in my belt pouch, or my duffle bag. These are not camera bags with isolated protection. Been doing that for 2.5 years and no scratches. If it does get scratched and it annoys me, it's cheap enough to have it changed. And if your nose is oily, if you put a plastic cover in there, it will still get oily. What's the difference between wiping the LCD or the plastic cover you put on top of it? I'd rather spend my money buying a microfiber cloth to wipe it off the lcd, or better soap for my oily skin :-) But if you insist on spending money to put a plastic cover on top of that LCD, it's your money. Go right ahead. Melwyn B.
