If you're talking about raw workflow (from file management to raw conversion to exporting): Lightroom2.6... hands down the best... I tried Aperture3 (trial version)... I loved it at first, but the library is eating up a lot of free diskspace....I went back to LR after that.

However, if you just want to have the best raw conversion engine, just go with the manufacturer's own (e.g. Nikon > Nikon CaptureNX, Canon > DPP, and so on).

Phase One Capture One by a big margin... Aperture stinks with RAW files, major red/magenta clipping with yellow skintone shifts.

BTW, I use DPP usually, but it's been crashing like crazy the past few months so I'm back to working with ACR (which I don't quite like).

Still saving up to buy P1C1 hehe, you can download their trial though.

There's no best software for all types of RAW. Each type works best on certain RAW software. I find Silypix works best with Pentax RAW and Nikon Capture for Nikon RAW. There might be a "best" for "most" though. Use whatever you're comfortable with.
