Hi guys, need your advice, d50 w/18-70mm or d70s w/ kit lens? or just wait til september after Photokina 2006.

Either is a good kit to get, but current prices in Hidalgo mean that the D70s + kit lens may be the better buy, if only that you can get the 18-70 virtually for cheaper (if you compare body only prices versus prices with the 18-70). If you have the budget, you might consider getting just the body and get some other starter lens besides the 18-70. Luckily there are loads to choose from that are more flexible or more geared towards different needs.

You could wait until after Photokina in September, but any products announced then may still be months away from getting released. There don't seem to be any solid rumors right now about any new camera releases from Nikon so you might not benefit from waiting.

I'd like to think, get it now and enjoy it now rather than wait months down the road and miss all the time waiting to get better gear. Months of practice and experience on a good camera is probably worth it versus months missing photo opportunities just to wait on "better" gear coming out. :Grin:

D70s with kit lens (18-70mm) :) Since if you want to get the D50 with the 18-70mm, you'll have to buy it separately. The price difference between the 2 will probably be just about 5k or less.

If you decide to wait for Photokina in September, the earliest the camera will be available locally will probably be January or February next year. And you can't even be sure if there will be a new camera launched then. Are you willing to wait that long? You'll be missing a lot of photo opportunities. :Grin:

Let's do the computation based on lowest price I've seen (here and HK-sourced):

D50 body P30k
18-70 P15k (brand new) + P30K = P45K
18-70 P 9k (pre-owned) + P30K = P39K

D70s kit P47-48K (brand new)
D70s kit P38K + 9K (pre-owned lens/brand new body) = P47K (obviously won't be a good deal if you'll get this combo unless you're only getting the body)

The winner? D70s kit!!! (for only 2K difference, D70s kit ka na!)

yep, i think this was the combo some of the stores are offering. havent personally tried the 55-200.. but it has high review ratings.

18-70 pure versatility (if only it was a f/2.8 - that would have been perfect!:))

hmm.. 17-55 is a dream... 18-200 is a possibility.. but i still tend to get a another body:) ... since i find myself shooting at the extremes lately - super wide and tele :Grin:

thanks dindin. i'm so tempted to buy a wide angle lense. sigma siguro 10-20 but i'm controlling myself. learn as much as i can muna before i start buying extra gear. ehhehe otherwise i'll be broke :)
