I have a Lowepro Computrekker AW. Please give me some feedback for this product. Stronghand is on sale from December 15 and I want to get a sling bag. Could anyone suggest me what to get?

Guess would have to be the SlingShot 200AW... It's a favorite of a lot of people. :)

Stronghand never carried any of the slingshot line as I searched far and wide for mine before having to live with the higher prices at Infomax.

The only thing I got from stronghand was the belt and a lens case (old stock pa).

i was there about 2 weeks ago. i got a sliplock pouch from them. they have a lot of bags although a lot of them are old stock. they don't display all of their stuff though. better to call and ask. normally, they bring out the stocks from a backroom somewhere.

as for their display. they display some backpacks, a dryzone, some beltpacks and a lot of pouches. the sliplock pouch i got wasn't even on display. i just called and they said they had it. i walked over and they brought the stock out from the backroom. still brand new although it had the aroma of napthalene balls.

I will have to agree with John. Case in point: a Slingshot 200 was priced at 6k in infomaxx before, but the price at vet specialists was somewhere in the 4.5k range.

Try giving their store a call to see if the model you want is available. 7239029.

if you have friends living in sg or hk, i'd suggest that you get the bags there, it's cheaper than the market here. but if you're planning to get the lowepro stuff here in the country, vet specialists is the right place to go. definitely cheaper than infomaxx. they only accept cash payments for the items :)

i'm currently using a tamrac velovity 8x, but have lately considered selling it off because its been a pretty tight fit for my current gear.

if i store my 40D w/ battery grip, it's a tight squeeze. and that's with my 70-200 2.8 lens attached to it.

would a slingshot 200 provide me with even just a little more space, while still allowing me to bring along an external flash unit and at least another extra lens?

I bought a Fastpack 250 last week at Vet Specialist for 4885 php. It is very easy to go there coming from greenhills.

if you plan to get a toploader, get the toploader 75aw. you can fit the flash at the bottom portion of the bag. you can also attach the pouch of the speed light using a carabiner on the side and fasten it with the sliplock mechanism of the toploader. that's what i do now. i'm planning to get a slip lock pouch 60aw for my flash and attach it to my toploader 75aw.

try doing the test again… but this time with you wearing the bag in the shower :D you'd probably get a different result as your body will be shielding water from seeping into the back part of the bag :)

Randall Cipriano

got myself an inverse 200aw from shuttermaster this afternoon...

background: got the bag so i can bring my camera along when i go for a ride on my motorcycle... kinda hoping the aw would keep my gear dry should i encounter rain during a ride...

test: decided to put the bag under the shower test with crumpled newspaper inside to simulate the aw's effectiveness in rain... basically me in my rain riding gear with the bag (with rain cover) on... 5 mins into the test i shut the shower and checked the bag

result: not good... the rain cover kept rain from getting into the bag from the top... sadly, the "back" of the bag is not covered by the rainguard... water runs down the back of the bag into the bottom of the rain cover... a pool of water formed inside the rain cover and eventually seeped into the bag from the bottom...

the newspaper was wet up to about a third of the way inside the main compartment... all other compartments were totally soaked... there was a lot of water retained inside the rain cover...

oh well... the search continues...

You're better off getting a Dryzone if you really want it waterproof. :)

I just love my LowePro Micro Trekker 200. Got this a zillion years ago, 1999 I think, in Singapore, for the equivalent of about P3k at that time. It's been abused a lot of times, brought to the remotest places in Mindanao (to the tunnels of Diwalwal, a friend even brought this to the peak of Mt. Apo), and I'm still using it now. The zipper needs a little repair though. But 9 years!!!

And wonders of wonders, all these fit into this small backpack...

- 2 Canon EOS 350D bodies w/ battery grips
(one body has the 17-40 mounted, another body only)
- 70-200 f4L
- 17-40 f4L
- 24-70 f2.8L
- 550ex flash
- ST-E2
- filters, spare batteries
- 7" Asus Eee (in the outside front pocket)

Whoa! Just packing everything tonight for a long drive to Davao early tomorrow, then to North Cotabato.

PJ, I dont think it can fit the 70-200(assuming this is a 2.8 right?) inside its camera compartment IF you place it vertically. you might have to reorganize the dividers or put it inside the top most compartment of the bag but . the rest of the gears you mentioned will fit in the camera compartment though. you can test it at infomaxx in park square.

Yeah, its the 2.8. I was thinking of pulling everything out and lying it horizontally. Do you know how much it costs now? Can you recommend a different back to fit my gear?

Thanks

hi! would these fit inside a lowepro slingshot 200AW?

450D with grip
50 1.4
18-55
10-22
24-105
100-400
580ex ii
all lenses with lens hoods

+ some accessories like filters, batteries, chargers, etc.

or does one need a 300AW for all of these? :)

nope, they won't fit in a 200AW...

i had the 200AW before...

it only fit my
300D with 17-85 lens attached
75-300 IS
580EX
18-55
50mm
and a couple of accesories

the 100-400 alone would occupy too much space...

they might fit in the 300AW, but i wouldn't recommend it. the AW gets really heavy when you carry it... so it's not something i would recommend if your carrying a lot of gear, i'd stick with the fastpack... same style of opening, but better weight distribution...

that's what i heard too... go for a fastpack rather than a 300 slingshot. the 200 would suit well but i think it's kinda small. thanks!:)

actually, with the amount of gear your carrying, I think even the 250 would be small for you, coz i have the 250, fits my 40D with grip and 70-200 attached, and a couple 1-2 spare lenses(depends on the size) and my 580EX... may be you should check out the 350...

if your looking for a backpack that has a side opening that can fit your stuff, try kata, I posted the model code of my bag on the kata thread...

last time I checked it was about 9k at Aperture, at Infomaxx it cost about 1k-2k more. its really a nice bag since you can still put your personal things in the upper compartment and a laptop at the back. however the bag can only fit amateur gears. for your setup I would suggest the lowepro vertex 200, about the same price as the Compurover or the Kata R 103:) good luck on your shopping!

the fastpack can fit fewer gear, but has space for a laptop and other accesories ike extra clothes on the top compartment...

whats good about it is that it opens on the side, so you don't need to take of the bag to get your gear... unlike the flipside, in which the opening is at the back, you have to set it down first before you can get your gear...

You can actually access your gear on the flipside by taking it off your back and turning the bag to your front. you are now facing the back side of the bag w/c has the opening. just use the waist harness to do this so you dont have to put the bag down, it hangs by your waist. clever concept

I have to agree, i use an offtrail two and have a slingshot 200. The offtrail gets the most use, from beach to out of the country it has never failed me. :)

But i'd suggest getting a bag that not only suits your needs now but something that'll suit your needs a few months from now. Its easier to grow in to a bag than growing out of one as the latter is more expensive.

I'm hoping to get a lowepro dryzone sometime in the future :)

Hi Jayson, I've been using lowepro bags since I started with digital cameras. I already have in my possession Lowepro Nova 4 AW, Computrekker Plus AW, Fastpack 350. I forgot the one I gave to my son, I even bought a Lowepro bag for my wife's laptop. She finds it tough and very comfortable to work with, same with me.

Now I really want one. Thanks for the advises guys. Really helpful. :)

Gab, The inverse 100AW are beltpacks that could also be carried as a shoulder. Which is nice if dont want a bag lugging on your waist.

The inverse 100AW is about P2500 - P3000. While the inverse 200AW is about P3500.

I bought one this afternoon. I was looking for off trail or toploader but they have no stocks. This bag will be great, imho. no hassle of stopping by just to get your gear from a backpack. this will also enable you to bring another backpack for clothes or whatever. great for backpacking. :)

that's the thing i like about fastpack250.. you don't have to turn your entire bag just to get your cam unlike the DR-467.

but the killer for me? IMHO, it's the shoulder strap.. quite uncomfortable with it.

I believe Jhed is referring to Shuttermaster. On Pasong Tamo Ext, just go straight after Waltermart Makati and you'll see it after a couple of blocks.

The main distributor of Lowepro Bags is VET Specialist and is located in San Juan. They are open on weekdays but are closed on weekends. In case you're planning to buy on a weekend, They said you can buy from the camera shops in Hidalgo, Banawe, and in Greenhills as these shops order from them directly and maintains the prices quoted by VET Specialist.

I suggest you call first the camera store where you will buy so that they can order in advance for you.

Hope this helps! :)

I think the Slingshot AW 100 would be adequate for a starter bag. They're available at Market Market.

If you're not the sling bag type, you might go for the Fastpack or the Flipside.

Just make sure you get enough space for your kit, the charger and an extra shirt (you will need this eventually) :) plus space left over for the usual extras, memory card, filters (camera, not yosi).

hi sirs, just want to ask how much budget should we shell out for our bags?

That really depends on what you want out of your bag, and what brand you plan to purchase. For example, if you only need to carry your DSLR a small bag would probably cost you no more than P1500, if you need more space for 2-3 lens, there are some around the P3000 range, some even more.

I myself chose ease of use and the fact that I can fit everything I need in my bag. At first I was looking at the Lowepro 200AW but I didn't want to use a slingbag, so I chose to get a different one, a backpack type, and although it cost 4500, I'm very happy with it.

if you plan on getting more stuff, it's better if you have a bigger bag to begin with, so that you don't end up buying a new bag every time you have new gear since it won't fit in your present bag... this happened to me lots of times, if memory serves, i think i've already had 6 cam bags because of this... hahahaha.... try the fastpack... great bag...

fastpack 250 at wells photo is only 3.5k more or less. their number is 8338666. if you get a busy or unavailable tone when you dial their number, just try again as they are having some problems with their landline.

its in evangelista under the magallanes bridge. i don't know the exact location name (street name, building #), just call them up and ask for directions.

HTH :D

wow! that's cheap, even cheaper than apperture and vet specialist..

do you guys know why?

or the shop gets their stuff from abroad? are there fake/imitations of lowepro?

Hi Bryan, all the bags are original (as far as I can tell) and come with the Lowepro Limited Lifetime Warranty.

For details you can ask for Marie on 833-8666 or 833-5874, FAX 833-4882

Edit 120+: 1,450
Slingbag AW200: 4,500
Slingbag AW100: 3,750

Those are the prices I know for sure because I wrote them down.

What I'm actually looking at is the FastPack 250 which I think may be at 5,000up, didn't look, out of my budget na kasi :D

got it in broadway... but you can also get it in the lowepro store in windsor house in causeway bay, there's also another store that sells camera gear there, in the 8th floor if I remember correctly, lowepro is in the 10th floor, the 8th floor shop sells lowepro and kata bags...... you can more or less haggle with the prices there, and tell them your paying in cash... some of the stores have a tendency to put really high prices on the tags, like a kata bag I got, the tag in the store says 1700, I got it for 1k...

Any lowepro slingshot users here? Do you know if a 70-200mm lens will be able to fit in a 100/200 model?

Used to have the 200. Tight fit if the 70-200 is mounted on the body (D300). Tight enough that I'd rather not use it like that for fear of straining the mount. If you just carry the body with a small lens attached and the 70-200 in one of the compartments it's no problem for the slingshot 200. You can still fit in an SB-600, extra batts and etc...

You might want to try the Lowepro Classified and ThinkTank Urban Disguise series. I find them easier to use than the sling style bags.

How is the durability of these bags? Particularly the fastpack 250, does the material and / or the stitching tear under heavy use? Like for example bringing a 2.6kg laptop with mouse and power cables with a 40D with batt grip, 70-200 2.8L and flash?

Thanks!

I've been using my lowepro Nova 5 AW since 2006. Still my main shoulder bag. I also have my computrekker aw as a travel bag, I had this since mid last year. Also had the lowepro slingshot 200aw and 100aw. My wife now uses the flipside 300.

The bags are very reliable. On trips abroad my computrekker usually has around 10kg of gear stored inside. It distributes the weight well.

Recently I also acquired a Crumpler 6mdh, but I still prefer my lowepro bags for overall ruggedness and durability. Price is reasonable as well. If you want a better bag I suggest you look at the Thinktanks :)

Thank you sir! I like Think Tank, but it's really just waaay out of my price range. It's almost double the price of lowepro, and I already consider lowepro to be expensive.

So there are no tears on the seams or stitching sir, even with 10kg of gear? Thanks!

Just got mine, will be using it a lot next week, but looks durable enough. Suggest you take a look at both the flipside and the kata r103/r104 bags as well, I am now thinking these may have been better options :D. The FP250 is a bit tight for my camera gear, but feels very bulky. May change my mind about it next week though.

Sir, the R series is overbudget for me. If I had the dough, I would just buy the Crumpler Wicky and Cox, since they're both in the same price range.

i used to have an all-tamrac bag line-up, but when i bought my officemate's lowepro belt system, followed by a flipside 300, i found that a shift to lowepro was necessary for me.

this is why i'm currently in the market for a suitable shoulderbag model, one i can easily take around with me for usual walk-arounds.

items that need to fit in it are:
40D + 24-70 lens & folded lens hood
speedlite flash + stofen
spare batteries & memory cards

i'll really appreciate your suggestions. thanks!

i checked out the lowepro site, specifically the classified series you pointed out - it looks like it's built not just for a camera but also an accompanying laptop computer.

i'm curious as to why you didn't bring up either the nova or rezo shoulder bag models, or even the stealth reporter.

hey mark..the lowepro classified 160 can't fit a laptop with your camera gears hehehe...but i think it can fit your 40d with 24-70 plus a flash and an additional lens and some small stuff... the reason why i suggested it is because it's the only lowepro shoulder type bag i've tried hehehe:D

The one con I don't like about Lowepro bags is that you can only position the dividers at specified areas. As compared to say ThinkTank or Crumpler photo bags, which lets you place the dividers in however and wherever you would want to place them.

And my Flipside 300 does make my back sweat a bit as compared to the other photo backpacks I've used.

I actually own two Lowepro Novo 2 AW. I bought one on sale while the other is a gift from my daughter. One is used as my regular bag, while the other is a spare.

The bag served me well. It is light-weight, gives ample protection to my D60 with kit lens, a 55-200 medium zoom, and an SB 400 flash; and the built-in hood protects it from rain.

Of course you need bags for different occasion. I need the inverse 200 for quick access and two side pouch for drinks, the belt strap to transper the weight on you hip incase your should get tired. Good for dogs walk which one of my activities in life.I'm Still waiting for a 2nd hand inverse 200 cause i can't afford to buy a brand new one right now budget is tight and my fundings for the inverse will be coming from my old shoulder bag.

You are funny dude. You need different bags for different occasion. Why not use one bag that caters for all occasions?.

I think if you want all around camera bag, You better get a Lowepro Pro Trekker 400/600, because the top cover can act as a belt bag, where you could store filters. camera and other stuff; and the is a removable waist belt, that can be use as a beltpack as well. In addition it has a room for hydration.

I have and currently use a Flipside 300 when shooting alone. Safe and secure back entry to access the compartments. Fits my gripped body, 24-70, 70-200, 10-22 w/o hood, a flash plus a couple of accessories.

I used to think that an all around bag would be best. But over time I've found that I prefer to use one bag for transport where I carry the cameras, the lenses, the chargers, accessories, and laptop (it's not a lowepro though). And for actual shooting, I use a smaller bag with only the camera, lenses and accessories I will use for that occasion. I used to use a sling bag, but have since shifted to a belt bag (one of which is a lowepro inverse 100).

Hehehe. THere are times you don't need to bring all of your gear, base on experience. Beside, Pro Trekker is to bulky, expensive for me and my setup is only minimum, 2 extra lens + flash.I don't also like the design it catches too much attention.

Hey Spam how are you enjoying the Dryzone 100? I've been contemplating one for my beach trips and other dangerous activities :Dum:

Are the zippers as tough as they say?

I have two lowepros a slingshot 200 and an offtrail 2 (iirc)

The Offtrail would have to be my fave, small and versatile imho. (plus it keeps that "only what you need" mindset active)

Primus AW is my favourite haul it all bag. Extra space on top for carrying non photography stuffs (t-shirt, lunch, food, items bought at malls). The outside pocket holds my cap, sweat towel and emergency camera rain cover (Op Tech).

In my opinion you need atleast 2 kinds of bags. So both are my favorite .... the Lowepro Inverse 200aw and the Flipside 400 (check out my review here http://leslie13.multiply.com/reviews/item/1)

I have 2 Lowepros - Classified 160 AW and Flipside 400 AW. Between the Classified 160 and my Crumpler 7 Million, I prefer my Crumpler although the Classified is also nice. Flipside looks to fit my current needs. My first outing with it will be this week. I'll see how it goes in actual application.

Inverse 200

For travel and events

- 40D with BGE2N Grip and 24-70mm 2.8 attached
- 580 EXII
- Lenspen
- Lowepro Pixel pack
- Blackrapid RS2 or Optech USA Proloop strap
- 2 packs 4x AA
- And a lot of room for my phone, wallet and other personal stuff

i'm also in the market for a new lowepro bag. i already have the computrekker, but i need a smaller model to accommodate a similar load as to what you have.

i also considered the inverse but found it to be a bit too bulky for me, especially if i opt to use it as a shoulder bag vs as a belt bag (it does have that feature, right?).

may i ask how all the items you listed down managed to fit in the said bag, and how the fit was, whether it was too tight or just right?

and how come you didn't go for models like the nova aw or rezo? i like the latter because if the situation arises, i can still attach a separate lens case to it if needed. the nova, on the other hand, appears to have more storage space, plus it's a AW.
