Carlo, I think the photos are out of focus. Except for the second photo in the first set, I don't see any part in focus. Did you mean to make these blurred? I hope I don't get flamed because this is an honest query on my part. =B)

Cheers,
Norman

no problem norman. they are meant to be out of focus. the focuing circle is so razor thin that everything else is washed out hence the seemingly oof subjetcs

I know it's difficult to achieve great depth of field in macro shots, but I think focus is a basic and critical requirement. I would love to see those flowers — or at least part of them — in focus. I hope you will take this criticism constructively. =B)

Cheers,
Norman

:) you're using a lens with a fast aperture no? and wide open?

question: is it supposed to be really blurry?

Oops... didn't read the rest of the thread.

But, I still think the thin DOF should still define a good (even just a small portion) of focus.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

carlo, the softness and colorful pics are awesome! sometimes, it not to be focused to get a nice photo. tfs. :)

i would have to agree with you unfortunately these lenses have a handicap in the foucs department. their intended use was for capturing cathode rays and xrays not for taking normal pics. whatever the case i personally think that the blurry pics add to the appeal and having them in focus albeit even a small area would defeat the purpose.:Grin:

@Aris: single aperture no focus
@jeff: thanks!
@marton: i got a spare 75 f1, just holler if you wanna borrow it

For what it's worth, part of the flower -- the edge of the sepal -- on the second photo in the first set is in focus. And for that, I think this one is more appealing than the rest.

@carlo

i guess that's why photography is a very subjective thing. it's either you like it or you don't... and if you don't, you have a choice of whether to let it grow on you or just totally dislike it. i opt for the first.

Basically its the blur that makes it beautiful, the effect looks like its painted in watercolor and the lens is your brush, with the colors washing out..

High key would make it look like its painted in white watercolor paper..
Great art carlo..:)
