Hi Giderbert,

Photoworldmanila is an annual photo expo organized by the FPPF (Federation of Philippine Photographers Foundation), usually held every February in Glorietta. Aside from the discounts (yes, there are discounts--and most of the Hidalgo photo shops have booths there), there are also workshops/talks given by international photographers and some of the best professional photographers in the country. Maybe it's best to visit their website: www.photoworldmanila.com

Good luck!

Gidebert,

From the poster I saw, its supposed to be from February 1 - 6, 2006 (Pia is right, its held every February each year). As to discounts, in the past, its usually 5% to 10% less. It will therefore be a case to case thing whether its cheaper in Hidalgo or not. For Canon SLRs, it might turn out to be the same but for Nikon, its still much cheaper in Hidalgo. The latter is also true for all point and shoot cameras.

But then again, JT has a complete line-up of their Sigma and Tamrac (among others) products which will come out cheaper with the discount. Same is true for Island Multi-Industrial Sale Corp. - distributor of Manfrotto.

In any case, its still an event that is worth going to. You will surely enjoy looking, shopping, buying, attending the lectures and/or simply chatting with other photographers.

If you are planning to buy any gear for Canon or Nikon, there will be no great difference between the event price and Hidalgo's. I believe the only one offering a great deal for gears is Fujifilm - they might feature their new entry. Last 2005, they were offering S3 Pro for a very low price.

Regarding the seminars, it doesn't sound more interesting than what we have attended last 2005 - but they cover lot of topics now! We had 5 "imported" people in 2005. One is the famous Eddie Tapp - a prof photographer Adobe consults whenever they plan to release a new version of Photoshop!!!
We also had a 2-day Photo Safari in Banaue. Better check with them if they have one this coming year.

And another interesting part is the closing ceremony. They usually have raffles. But of course you have to buy tickets. The more tickets you buy, the nore chance of winning. Some people made it as an investment, hehehe! Spend 15K worth of tickets and win yourself a Nikon D80 or a Canon 400D/Rebel xTi... not bad at all!!! :) tickets usually costs P100.

Photoworld is still the best exhibit in the country. DPP will be present during the lectures. We plan to fly in someone from Colorvision to speak about color management. I also think having Hanson Fong there is worth the price of admission.

this'll be the first photoworld event for me, so i'm pretty excited about attending. bad timing talaga that the first 2 days overlap with our company's yearly sales convention. grrr

for the "veteran" attendees out there, any tips for first-timers like me in making sure that we get the most value from this event?

sadly, photoworld coincides with our company's sales convention. the only time i can get to drop by will be on sunday, feb 4, roughly the 4th day of the event.

if i manage to drop by only then, will there still be some "good buys" available? i'm worried na baka parang department store sale yan - the later you go, all that's left for you are the least popular items...

hope it isn't true in this case. looking for a flash (i wonder how much discount they'll give to their 580EX) and battery grip for my 350d.

I use Photoworld as an opportunity to do some comparison shopping :D

Its nice to have all the major brands and suppliers under one roof. You get to handle the equipment and the accessories. It makes it easier for me to decide what to purchase for the year.

although this is my first time to attend photoworld (because i'm here incidentally), expos are always a good opportunity to try and check out different brands/makers at one location. kasi naman dito sa pinas you don't see a lot of slr's being displayed at the electronic shops. unlike in some countries (like japan), it's like an expo all year :)

been reading on the boards regarding canon, nikon and fuji being present during the exhibit. does anyone have info if sigma lenses (or better yet, if JT Photoworld will have a booth) will be available? at 0% interest plans?

They should change the theme and style. They've been doing this for so many years already, dunno why they keep sticking to the same layout and venue. I hope they give this show "a shot in the arms next year".

If I may, I'm not sure about Avenue but Henry's booth is in front of Marks & Spencer, there are other booths beside it, maybe Avenue is there as well. :)

I would still go for the fun of it!

However, there may be some booths that might not replenish their inventories once sold out. Lowepro ran out of water bottle pouch for its belt system. Sayang!

Very true. Island ran out of IR filters. The next available size was too small for my Cokin holder. Those were selling at 600-900 pesos range. Then I saw HOYA had a ridiculous priced circular IR for Pesos 6,995.00. I'd get a an overexposed 120 film and use it nalang while waiting.........:) ...sobra mahal naman yun.......

The square Hoya IR filter doesn't work very well due to light leaks.

Will work with film though because the exposure time is a lot shorter than when used with DSLRs with aggressive low pass filters that prevent IR from registering on your sensor.

You can read more about it here (http://www.pinoyphotography.org/forum/index.php?topic=11084.0).

Bro., at 77mm the price for that IR filter is actually cheaper than the one's being sold in "local-circulation"... I've heard of a much more ridiculous price tag on this item... Hilarious really... :D Just ask around...

On the contrary, Hoya IR 77mm filter at 7k is already on the low side. Check the price in B&H for the same item, cost is much more. :)

Joseph,

I agree that at that price it is reasonable enough, last time i inquired from avenue it was 8k plus..., I belive the quality of HOYA filters are quite good, that's why its quite pricey compared to other brands...:)

Jake, Dave, Rosalie, Earl, Joseph..........Thank you! You can't beat Dave's rationale on performance..... I guess it's the Hoya, or equivalent circular model that avoids these leaks during use. Gastos!!!!

dropped by at around lunch time yesterday, hoping to get myself a (preferably discounted) 580ex. sadly, i failed to find one there.

canon was offering it at 30T, but that was above my budget (unless that's an already discounted rate?).

hmm, maybe i was looking at the wrong places? wish i checked out this site before heading there. di ko tuloy nakita yung henry's & avenue booths...
