View Full Version : Color Science & Color Mngmnt Trivia
ferdinandbasilio 11-05-2009, 02:43 PM I have started this thread to give ideas to all members and guest of the forum. My objective is we can educate in exciting way by means of a trivia.
Let me start
R=0, G=0,B=0 > Black
C=0, M=0, Y=0, K=0 > White
If monitor is in RGB, Your desktop printer is what? RGB or CMYK?
ferdinandbasilio 11-05-2009, 03:02 PM If CMYK and RGB is device dependent, what do you call L* a* b*?
danpagulayan 11-05-2009, 05:17 PM Ferdie, thanks for starting this thread. We need experts like you on this field.
This will help round out our understanding of the whole process, which includes printing.
I have a sense that there will be a lot of heady stuff to be posted here.
:)

My desktop inkjet printer is a RGB driven device :D

Jo Avila 11-05-2009, 07:51 PM If CMYK and RGB is device dependent, what do you call L* a* b*?
L*a*b* isn't a device dependent color space. It's not device specific. It's a device independent color space.

ferdinandbasilio 11-06-2009, 09:34 AM If ICC stands for International Color Consurtium, What does CIE stands for?
nino_carandang 11-06-2009, 09:34 AM solid your thread billy. it makes us understand color management better.
Jo Avila 11-06-2009, 09:39 AM If ICC stands for International Color Consurtium, What does CIE stands for?
CIE is in French. It stands for Commission Internationale de l´Eclairage. It's the international Consortium on Illumination.

ferdinandbasilio 11-06-2009, 09:44 AM If lux is the measure of intensity of incident light, what is a luminance that you measure in your display either crt or LCD?
@ Nino
Lets start with terminologies.
@ Sir Jo Avila
Thanks for Answering
@ other members
Time to ask some jargons
Jo Avila 11-06-2009, 10:02 AM I have one :D
What's the difference between a color space and a color profile? :D
Cheers!
Jo Avila
andrewdeleon 11-08-2009, 03:11 PM I have one? I'll ask question hoping somebody would answer!
Differentiate Relative Colorimetric and Perceptual Colorimetric.

Differentiate Relative Colorimetric and Perceptual Colorimetric.
Regards,
Use the search function of the forum. I already answered that in a past thread :D
Cheers!
Jo Avila
P.S.
There is no such thing as Perceptual Colorimetric. The four rendering intents are Perceptual, Saturation, Relative Colorimetric and Absolute Coloritmetric.

Jo Avila
Color Profile or ICC Profile > is the numerical description of a device (input or output)
Color Space > is the assumed profile or assigned profile by Adobe which serves as a reference of conversion which correspond to ICC profiles numerical description.
ferdinandbasilio 11-10-2009, 08:58 AM Metamerism> is define as two colors may match under one condition but not on another condition, and it is said that the two color are metameric pair. My question is, what is the opposite of metamerism?
ferdinandbasilio 11-10-2009, 09:07 AM A human visual system can only recognize approximately 10 million colors in 1 condition. A monitor can produce 16.7 million colors. Approximately, how many colors are there in this world?

Is there a possibility to make this device behave as a cmyk?
ferdinandbasilio 11-10-2009, 09:53 AM There are four(4) Rendering intent namely, perceptual, colorimetric rel, and abs, Saturation. What do you call the measure of the ability of a light source to produce the color of various objects being lit by the source? This is very important in matching a print from a display.
Christian Obmerga 11-10-2009, 09:59 AM this thread should be made a Sticky. :D
Jo Avila 11-10-2009, 11:04 AM Is there a possibility to make this device behave as a cmyk?
Hmmm... I know that I can cross render or make the output of my ink jet printer mimic the output of the printing press (which uses CMYK) :D

ferdinandbasilio 11-10-2009, 11:05 AM Did you know that in Human Visual System there is what we call opponent signal?

Answer: Color Rendering Index in laymans term, quality of light source.
BTW, all trivia questions here were given and explained during the CMS seminar @ Seawind Boracay, Bacolod and Kalibo.

Ans: Drive by a RIP ( Raster Image Processor ).
I will be posting more trivia next week, and if a DPP member (moderator and Admin is not allowed to answer) can answer, there is a prize like maybe a jacket or free.......
